Is there a lot of success cracking, then resubmitting 9.6's after a press and getting a grade bump? I understand that grading is subjective, and I guess it would depend on what issues the book has (color breaks etc). What about sending a cracked book back to CGC for CCS to press and then grade? Man, the more I type the more it sounds like gambling.

I wish I could have that same confidence in my grading ability.

Mine is still in the polybag, might have to send this in for a press and grade. Do you prescreen for specific grade?

Thanks Artboy, I've been trying to hunt down a used scanner in good condition which is hard. Heck, trying to get a HP 8300 off ebay shipped to Alaska is MURDER.

Sorry for the loss. If it was me I would look into brining the book to CGC personally and see if they can assist with some sort of walk through grading. So much can happen during shipping, for peace of mind that's the only way to go. Plus it would make an awesome memory for later with that book.

I'm in my early 40's now and I'm reaching this same point where I would like to get some of my collection graded. I haven't really considered grading/encapsulating until this year when I was sorting out my collection (somewhere around 25-30 short boxes) and getting some nostalgia from the books that I was looking at. (Tons of sentimental value in these books, good childhood memories, etc). My first submission to CGC is for the upcoming Claremont / Rubenstein events with my Wolverine Mini 1-4. I've started sorting my collection determining what I would like to have signed vs what just needs a press and grade. I'm not looking to offload any of the collection, but to preserve what I have and keep the nostalgia alive. For the more modern key issues (say everything from 2000 and up) I'm going to submit for a 9.8 prescreen in combination with CCS's prescreen to see if anything can be done. If not, those key's might make it to ebay raw and the funds will be used for 9.8 upgrades. It's actually been really nice to get time back with the books, even my daughter is getting into it.

Hate to bump an older thread but I'm also looking for a scanner for my collection. With Covid keeping us indoors it looks like now is the time.

I believe once you hit 25 books or more you are provided with the option of a prescreen and can select the grade.

Tried to purchase some of these fancy bags, CGC is coming back with a shipping rate of $45.00 to me in Alaska. I'll be making my window bags out of unwanted poly's.
