  1. Bought this comic on ebay and upon further inspection I noticed what looks like a blue spot on the cover.  Not sure if this is something that occured during printing or man made. (blue marker)  It's a really clean book that I was hoping to have graded, but now I'm not so sure.  Thanks.

BTW I checked other books online and haven't been able to find one with the same mark.

  2. With NO grader notes, has anybody popped the slab open and sent the book back for a second opinion?  Don't get me wrong 9.6 is OK, but for $19 has anybody given a book a second chance? A different person, a different grade.  Just checking...  Thank you. :)

  3. I was examining a New Mutants book at an auction and I noticed it said this on the tag at the top.  It's says New Mutants #97. Then under that it says Marvel Comics, 1/91 and then under that it says 2 siamese pages.  What does this mean?  Thank you. :)

  4. I've noticed that some of these graded books can be faded so to say.  At first glace the colors on the "tag/CGC receipt" look cool, but after a double take they look washed out.

Is it safe to say that these books were hung on the wall or exposed to the sun long term? (NO, VHO, T5, MH etc)  Just a poster on the wall?   Should I stay away from these?  The grade will always be there, but the color seems to fade?  Thanks. :)

  5. Have my eye on a book on ebay, but upon further inspection I noticed that the bottom staple seems a bit off.  The top one sits flush with the fold of the book, (perfect) but the bottom staple seems to be maybe 3/16" too far to the right.  The fold is good too though, your not seeing parts off the back of the book up front, it's just that the staple looks a little weird. (location wise)  Hope this makes since.

Just curious if this is a major flaw and will knock the book down considerably in grade.  Hoping to send it off to CGC.  Thanks. :)

  6. I just purchased a comic of ebay and it looks great, but on the cover there is what looks like a small indentation from a pen or something similar.  There's no ink on the book, just this small recess.  It couldn't be more than 3/16" long and not very noticeable, but I know it's there and it drives the you know what out of me.  Anyways, is something like this a big deal when it comes down to grading?  I'll try and post a picture of what I'm talking about later today.  Thanks.

Anyway, I don't think you should continue using this thread to ascertain whether your purchases were fairly priced. Sorry but you need to do your own homework.

Not worth your time anymore huh?  Wow! I really didn't expect a response like this right off the bat.   At least flatter somebody who might be newer to the hobby than you a little longer.  You know what, I'm done with you.  (IGNORE)

  8. Hmm...    How about this one; I  just spent $170 for a NYX #4 at an auction.  A beautiful 9.8 sealed copy. (CGC)  Beforehand though I did a little research and saw that one was selling for almost twice as much at a respectable website online.  Whether or not this price is "on the level" so to say I don't know.  This guy could have drawn straws for all I know.  Thoughts?  Thank you. :)

  9. I got another question for you guys & girls if you don't mind.  I just spent $165 on an X-Men #256.  ($150 for the book., $15 for the shipping/Psylocke appearance)  It's graded at 9.8 by CGC and is an absolutely beautiful sealed copy IMO, but how do I know if I got ripped off or not?  I figure $50-$60 bucks went for the grade/slabe etc, but was the comic in it's raw form worth the extra money? ($100 give or take?)  What do you guys use to price your comics?  I just starting collecting again after a 20 year hiatus or so and back in the day we used to just check the Wizard and be done with it.  With all these graded copies nowadays, does a price guide like this exist or have any bearing on the worth/price of a comic?  Thanks :)

  10. Just as an example something like a Dark Knight lll Master Race #1A would be something I would like to have in my collection. (CGC 9.8)  I'm assuming I shouldn't pay any more than $55 or $60 for this book, being that I can still get it raw for $4.99?  I've tried too, but what I've been sent just didn't meet my expectations unfortunately.  A blemish of any sort really stands out on that black cover.  Thanks for the help btw. :)

  11. Ok thanks. :)

So basically it's going to cost me about $50 or so to have a book graded give or take?  (fees, shipping costs etc)  Hmm...  If I ever wanted to sell a graded copy would I have to figure these costs into the price?  Just as an example, would a comic book with a $4.99 cover price and a 9.8 grade go for around $55 dollars or so?  Sorry about all the questions, I'm just trying to figure all this stuff out.
