John B. West (1905-1960) was an African American medical doctor who achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps. during WWII. For some reason he also wrote tough guy P.I. novels about Rocky Steele, a very white New York City private eye. More info can be found here - https://thrillingdetective.com/2022/04/02/rocky-steele/.
Signet published the six Rocky Steele novels in paperback from 1959-1961 (the last five posthumously) and hired well-known artist Barye Philips to produce the covers. I've managed to acquire two of the six covers.

I have a comic graded by the other guys where "Cape Cod Copy" is noted on the label.

The 7x10 Bill Ward ink piece went for almost $2,000. Seems to me that's about 3x the recent market. Bill Wenzl's are now about $1,000 each for ink wash examples and of course Dan Decarlo Humorama cartoons have gone up a lot over the last few years. I guess that the Big 3 of Humorama are getting their due.

There is a well known framing place near me that has contacts to get art restored/repaired. I’ve had oil paintings cleaned and also once a piece of tanned comic art deacidified. I think there are more places working on paper restoration than we think.

It has a different look. Some people equate different with good.
I think it's okay, but that's all. Perhaps better suited for parody or a comedy strip.
That's a general problem I have when evaluating art by different artists. The style should be evaluated against the "pitch" of the story. Kirby using his typical style on Peanuts wouldn't work.
I first saw Skottie Young on Wizard of Oz and thought his art worked so bought a page, but don’t like it so much on superhero stuff.

The only piece I was able to pick up was the little Krenkel Sowers of Thunder piece. probably the second cheapest piece in the auction after the other Krenkel. Not much respect for ne of the masters, but good for me!

Good for you. Hopefully all your auctions end as well.

There doesn't appear to be a thread on this, but I'll start one off. Any ideas why the Quesada Daredevil page is at $4K? Seems fairly unremarkable unless I'm missing something.

Surprised the Harrison Cady Peter Rabbit cover went for $5K. Does anyone today even know the title or artist? You can get ink wash Burgess Bedtime Stories book illustrations for less.
