  1. I was just watching The Footage Detectives on Talking Pictures, about the only TV show worth watching aside of repeats of The Prisoner, and a viewer asked after an old comic which told the story of a team of rally bikers. Here's a shot of the TV, showing the comic that the Detectives thought it might be (I think that's Albert on the right): To the trouble and strife, I remarked "That's a Streamline reprint of a Charlton comic" She looked at me blankly. This is my life.
  2. At the bottom of every UK distribution barrel, through the bottom in fact, underneath it, burrowing into the ground, you'll find at least one of us....
  3. @Malacoda Rich, some more related musings in this old thread: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/417827-are-there-pence-titles-for-ga-books/?do=findComment&comment=11581770 Kev had a UKPV purist induced coronary in it, if I remember correctly....
  4. Just to reiterate, Rich, and just for the 1946 Bells, I didn't find any examples among this lot where there were different printed pricing scenarios - every book with dual pricing has DP on all copies, every 10c only had 10c only in existence (with a UK sticker attached): Comic Crimes #11, Jet Man #10 and Joke #28 all crop up once in a while in the UK. The others, I've never seen one available issue - only old scans from online sources. Anyway, I'm supposed to be knocking all this on the head. Stop asking questions!
  5. I have, haven't I? They're all the same though, Rich, the 1946 Bells - every applicable issue (and printing) is dual priced so there are no 'UK price variants' to find, which was the original purpose of the thread. Well, I never found any. Yep, all the same printed info, just with some 6d and shilling stickers dotted about. There's some Manchester vs London commentary going on, as I recall reading somewhere. Maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe not. Techno fear....... There are some very good sites that discuss the Bells and the Canadians, Rich. The authors appear very clued up and likely have the answers. I was just looking for UKPV candidates, to be honest, but stumbled across the separate printings whilst tinkering. That's my trouble, you see. Always tinkering. I should get out more.
  6. Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but I'm seeing an awful lot of room for movement at the top there. And not straight, either. Can anyone else see that? What happens if that case gets turned upside down, or takes a knock? It looks quite snug in the inner sleeve horizontally, so the guts could easily move independently, vertically. Or the whole book moves, and the right corner hits the inner well indentation before the rest of the top edge does. Wouldn't you want it to be a little more snug than that? Still, it's only a 7 figure book. Nothing to worry about, eh... https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/action-comics-1-kansas-city-pedigree
  7. Welcome to the thread, Jason. Any lovers of the stamps Tee and Pee are welcome among we, with books that are nice to see
  8. A new earliest for Girls' Romances, snaffled for the files from the line that is never off:
  9. Always nice to see some Millered Harveys I've got one of those too, Albert, and the stamp is just as unclear... This one below is a bit more seeable, and yellowy agreeable:
  10. Well said. Jon, thanks for running this contest again. It puts a smile on my face every time and I appreciate all the effort you go to as, I'm sure, do all the players. Well done mate. Hopefully see you next time
