My Byrne sketch in 81' cost $15. That's what he was charging at his table. I remember a friend who was pretty young got two drawings. One was a Sasquatch. I could see a kid trying to ink these after having them for a few years. https://www.instagram.com/p/BREcXY8D_ol/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I have three pieces of art that I will try to donate next year to the Bill Ireland Museum or another museum that collects comic art. Good sentimental pieces that I have had for over 40 years and don't want to ever be flipped. More public exhibits will keep the art market healthy. The rest I will leave plenty of documentation for each one and make it simple for me or my family to sell or keep.

The Lucas Museum opening later this year will be a big boost in helping to educate and excite people about original art. Just like museums did for Impressionist and Modern art. Artists and collectors donating to comic museums like Billy Ireland will really help. I have a 81' Byrne drawing I would never sell so I want to donate it.

I have a few nice old pieces that I will not sell but love to give to an awesome Museum like Billy Ireland or another University that has a comic art collection. I would rather they sit in storage and shown occasionally than being auctioned every time the next seller goes broke.

Hey everyone. I bought a copy of Uncanny X-Men 168 the other day and when I opened it, there looked to be a Chris Claremont signature inside. It was not labeled as such by the store I got it from, so I looked it up to see if it looked authentic. It didn’t look like most of the other signatures I found, but not many I saw looked alike either. I decided to come here and seek as many outside opinions as possible. Here is a picture of it, let me know what you think.
I got this one in the early 80's. Looks similar.

Congrats, a wonderful commission by Sal!
All the new Buscema commissions I've seen look great, like Joe Sinnott, he's lost nothing in his youth.
Thanks! Yes I have seen a few more this week and they look great. And Sal is 82!

I just received my Sal Buscema commission that was offered here earlier this year. I requested Captain America head sketch (with clenched teeth if possible).
I'm very excited about how it turned out. It's better than I imagined.
Thank you Sal Buscema! And thanks to Desert Wind Comics for having this event available to participate in.
If anyone else received their commissions please post here as well.

My Dad is over 80 and still subscribes to the Hollywood Reporter. He sent me this link.
Even he knows who Stan Lee is and was saddened to hear about his situation. I attended many SDCC back in the 90's and early 2000's and saw Stan around but I never wanted a signature. I'm glad I stuck to my tastes and not speculated. I still have SDCC signed books by Barry Windsor Smith and Al Williamson. Even CC Beck!

He was at MOCCA years ago. Was only signing his recent book Asterios Polyp but I did get a sketch for my Little Lulu collection.

Most Minneapolis conventions at that time were at the late, lamented Thunderbird Hotel. :sigh:: Miss that crappy place.
Yes the Thunderbird! There was a con there during a huge snow storm and I remember Dennis Kitchen comes in wearing a large fur coat and this tall beautiful woman with him. As a 15 year old it was very impressive.

You should post this photo/story over on Byrne Robotics. They would get a kick out of it!
Great idea. I’ll try to post there.

I think what is interesting about this image is that all the folks except Byrne are kids.
Nowadays - its all grown ups visiting artists booths. Unless a kid is tagging along with the parents.
Ha! That’s true. And a kid took the photo. Kids really liked Byrne.

Already talking about selling? I never thought of selling my John Byrne art when I was first collecting original art. I still have the Byrne and created a unique and exciting collection. Buy what makes you happy, not what will make you 2k in 2 years. A new collector with a great eye could have an amazing collection in twenty years or less. Most collectors won't last five years.
