  1. Here is one list at https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/the-greatest-female-comic-book-creators-of-all-time The writer would add Trina Robbins to the list. I might add Colleen Doran.
  2. Readmix wrote: PS - I forgot Lily Renee; not sure either lady makes the top 15 influential illustrators; I just think they are near or at the top of the list of females who would be considered in the discussion of which women, if any, could crack a top 15 list in a field that has been largely populated by males. Agreed. Given the question, the basic problem is that this was a male dominated industry for so long that major women artists were rare. I guess you could add Ramona Fredon to the list, too, but I don't think she belongs in the top 15 or even close. I wonder who a list of top 15 femaile artists would include?
  3. A fair argument. Although if we go beyond artistry, then can we really omit Jenette Kahn over at DC? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenette_Kahn.
  4. Thanks, Lee, particularly coming from the Master. A few other brief comments. First, I don’t know if this applies to non-Phantom Stranger art, although I suspect it does. Second, these are basically average pages. There have not been any really good splash pages or covers where prices may be disproportionately higher. The character just doesn’t lend itself well to splashes (full page), so they are rare. And, pages without PS in them have been available for less than $500, so if someone wants a cheap example from an excellent artist, it can be had.
  5. Well, two more Aparo/ Phantom Stranger pages were just sold on Heritage, and both were within my predicted ranges. This one went for $510, with Heritage's Premium on top, for a total of $612.50. About 4 months ago, it had sold on Clink for about $450. Adding in what Heritage charges Sellers, and this one broke barely better than even (and only in the last 2 + hours of bidding): This one just sold for $650, plus Heritage's Premium, for a total of $780: Last June, this one sold for $1,912 with the Buyer's Premium and it's slightly better but comparable, I think, in quality (as wells just preceding it in the book): Bottom line: I think the Aparo boom in prices, for at least run-of-the-mill pages, has run its course and is crashing back to a more modest range (given the raw volume of pages and age of the page). Extra nice pages can always carry a special premium, as can different subjects.
  6. I think they are a bit further apart than a little. EQ is sexy and has an air of danger to it with a number of “moving parts” scattered around and good image balance. With Sea Witch, the actual operative part of the picture is relatively small—her and that creature with the serpents in the vicinity. The rest is drama created with what boils down to background art. In today’s market, I think it would go for over $1M, and the purchase price would be a steal. But EQ is significantly more interesting.
  7. You really like that? If it didn't have the name Frazetta attached to it, it would pass for some of the 18-19th century overblown historic junk that people used to paint and like.
  8. Always fun to read. I do want to mention that Aparo Phantom Stranger pages are continuing to drop, which is not really surprising given how much has been coming up lately. I recently saw one nice page on Heritage going for less than $900. I would not be surprised if the typical page continues to drop, above $500 but below $900. I am curious if other Aparo art has also dropped in the last 6 months.
  9. This is where I disagree with most people. It isn't that modern or traditional is better, but those who think that one style doesn't deserve to really be considered art (or wine). As a matter of personal taste, I will never be entranced by the Hudson School of landscape art; but I acknowledge that some people love it without denigrating it as pictures which look like they were left behind in a derelict boarding house. That's where some people cross the line.
  10. If they are fake, it doesn't matter anyway.
  11. As I recall, it is on thread which announced comic art tracker. Same reason why It didn’t scrape the comic art fans website for a while. Something to do with taking up server resources.
  12. My understanding is that CL did not want Comic Tracker to scrape its site to list its auctions in CL. So, Comic Tracker does not list them, even though the author of the system would like to.
  13. I am also curious if the omission of Clink from comic art tracker is resulting in lower prices being bid than if the site was included.
  14. Mostly, the second, but not because of declining interest in BWS art which has also been reported. Also, because the person who was the highest bidder the last time, and is selling, is no longer bidding on it. Unless someone else really wants it, the second lowest bidder would then bid again at the lower second highest price unless he/she has also spent the money on something else. Don't forget, this is not a large market. I have noticed something similar with Aparo/Phantom Stranger art since last May or June. Mid level pieces, and below, have been going down (nothing terrific has come up for auction). I think it makes sense because people who would be buying them are satisfied with what they have since bought, and don't care to add more. In fact, I am curious if others have seen similar drops since last June for other characters. From what I can tell, I think the market is now several hundred less than the middle of last year (or more). And for those of you who like a little schadenfreude, Albert Moye had been trying to unload a Phantom Stranger cover for $7,500 for some time. It was not a good piece (woman opening a treasure chest). Right when the market heated up, around last March, the Brothers Donnelly bought it for an unknown price. And that is where it continues to sit.
  15. I know it has been said that everyone should have their own Mt. Rushmore, but the thing is, there is only one Mt. Rushmore standing as representative for the whole nation. Kirby would apparently make the list. Anyone else who enjoys majority support? Don't forget, Jefferson wasn't perfect, and neither was Roosevelt (Jefferson as slave holder, Roosevelt as "war monger")(yes, Washington also owned slaves, but that seems to be ignored). I would add Adams, Eisner and Miller at this point.
  16. Logic dictates that it will go down. Comic Link does not usually attract the attention of a Heritage auction, and it was already at its prior high point based on what the prior winner bid. Don't be surprised to see up to a 5-10% drop purely based on those administrative considerations.
  17. Maybe not, but have you seen some of the prices that graffiti artists have drawn? Really rich people keep wanting to show off how much they have.
  18. I'm thinking it will cross collecting lines and draw interest from the fine art crowd. Then, don't be surprised if it passes $5 million.
  19. Do you mean art that says "the Tribe" is by one of the artists?
