  1. Hi all! I just happened to check the total number of scans of old art-for-sale ads that I have uploaded to my ComicArtAds website, and it looks like an even 5,000 scans over the past 9 years and 3 months. The latest additions are a couple of Gil Kane Marvel covers, as well as a Kane Green Lantern panel page and Amazing Spider-Man splash. I hope you all are able to enjoy the site as much as possible and enjoy the walk down memory lane. I appreciate the contributions of many fellow comic art collectors who have helped make this website a fun project for me. Best regards, Lee Benaka
  2. That SVTU page was offered to me pre-auction for $2K. I was tempted but didn't like the middle bottom panel so passed. I was surprised at the Heritage price as well, although there have been plenty of "bargains" on Don Perlin, Sal Buscema, Gene Colan, and John Buscema at the recent weekly Heritage auctions. Like prices half of what I would expect to see in a dealer's portfolio at a comic art show.
  3. Do you know that Dave generally only inked the backgrounds on the ASM books, with Frank Giacoia or Mike Esposito inking the main characters? Dave apparently would make photocopies of his partial inks when he was working in the Marvel Bullpen side-by-side with Giacoia and Esposito. It is interesting to see Andru's pencils in these vintage photocopies. If, on the other hand, you knew all this and think that Dave's background inks were insufficient, I beg to differ and suggest you check out the backgrounds in the later books where Esposito provided complete inks for Andru's pencils. There's a clear difference, and I prefer the art with Dave's contributions.
  4. Heritage Signature auction time again, and a few of the lots look a bit familiar: Jack Davis, Impact #2 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/jack-davis-impact-2-cover-original-art-ec-1955-/a/7374-93006.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/impact-2-cover Herb Trimpe, Hulk #143 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/herb-trimpe-the-incredible-hulk-143-cover-dr-doom-original-art-marvel-1971-/a/7374-93018.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/hulk-143-cover Michael Netzer/Nasser, Defenders #87 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/michael-netzer-aka-nasser-the-defenders-87-cover-original-art-marvel-1980-/a/7374-93101.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/defenders-87-cover Ron Wilson, Man-Thing #7 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/ron-wilson-and-frank-giacoia-man-thing-7-cover-original-art-marvel-1974-/a/7374-93151.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/man-thing-7-cover Brent Anderson, Power Pack #13 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/brent-anderson-and-bob-wiacek-power-pack-13-cover-original-art-marvel-1985-/a/7374-97003.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/power-pack-13-cover Gil Kane, Thor #318, page 6 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/gil-kane-and-pablo-marcos-thor-318-story-page-16-original-art-marvel-1982-/a/7374-97214.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/thor-318-page-26 Steve Lightle, Marvel Comics Presents #146 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/steve-lightle-marvel-comics-presents-146-johnny-blaze-cover-original-art-marvel-1994-/a/7374-97243.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/marvel-comics-presents-146-cover William Stout, Comics Journal #80 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/william-stout-the-comics-journal-81-cover-ec-comics-tribute-original-art-fantagraphics-1983-/a/7374-97393.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/comics-journal-80-cover More to come, hopefully! And happy bidding all!
  5. Here's one more listing, from 1980, advertising the covers to #159, #161, and #163. You could buy all three covers for less than the costs of a Swamp Thing panel page from the same advertisement: http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-163-cover http://comicartads.com/content/swamp-thing-6-page-18
  6. Here's a few from art ads and catalogs mostly from the 1980s. I would assume they still exist: http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-180-cover http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-186-cover http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-188-cover http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-177-cover http://comicartads.com/content/daredevil-181-cover
  7. Maybe we need to establish a Flip of the Day Hall of Fame?
  8. Hi all! If you hadn't seen this yet, a bunch of vintage photocopies of partially inked pages from Amazing Spider-Man #129 is ending in a few days on ComicLink: https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1758660 These pages came from the estate of Dave Hunt, and all proceeds from the auction will go to Dave's family. Thanks!
  9. Another big Heritage Signature auction coming up. Have any of the lots been offered for sale in decades past? Maybe so.... D. 10. That's a beautiful spread and was well-bought by the winner! I wish I had been able to be a contender for this.
  11. Hi all! I have consigned two lots of Mark Trail comic strips to ComicLink for auction, and they are ending tonight. Each lot includes five-strips, and all strips come from a nice-looking storyline revolving around sea otters. And before you think, oh, sea otters, they are so cute and harmless, who cares, please feel free to search the internet for fun facts about sea otter behavior. I am too sheepish to include links in this post, but the more you know, the more you may end up cheering for the oil slick that threatens "Buttons" and company in this storyline. Oh, and here's the auction listings, please bid bid bid! https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1726183 https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1726184
  12. Good luck Larry, lots of great pieces here! I'll certainly put down multiple bids. Cheers, Lee
  13. Another amazing Heritage Signature Auction is wrapping up over the next few days, and again some of the lots may look familiar to folks who remember art-for-sale ads from decades past, from dealers including Conrad Eschenberg, Mitch Itkowitz, Albert Moy, and others: Michael Kaluta, The Shadow #11 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/michael-kaluta-the-shadow-11-cover-original-art-dc-1973-/a/7358-93041.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/shadow-11-cover Rob Liefeld, New Mutants #98, page 4 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/rob-liefeld-the-new-mutants-98-story-page-4-gideon-original-art-marvel-1991-/a/7358-93067.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/new-mutants-98-page-4 Barry Smith, Conan #10, page 13 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/barry-smith-and-sal-buscema-conan-the-barbarian-10-story-page-13-original-art-marvel-1971-/a/7358-93091.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/conan-10-page-13 Matt Baker, Fight Comics #50, page 3 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/matt-baker-fight-comics-50-tiger-girl-story-page-3-original-art-fiction-house-1947-/a/7358-95015.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/fight-50-page-3 June Brigman, Power Pack #15 cover https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/june-brigman-and-bob-wiacek-power-pack-15-beta-ray-bill-cover-original-art-marvel-1985-/a/7358-95031.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://comicartads.com/content/power-pack-15-cover D. 14. Just a reminder that you can see thousands of these old CBG and Mitch catalog ads in a searchable database: http://www.comicartads.com/ It also has full scans of many old catalogs from the 1970s!
  15. It could have been the #162 cover. There certainly was some excitement and confusion at the time. I agree that Perez didn't do the art for the alternate, almost-identical version, but that it was probably Pablo Marcos.
