    Hi

I remember reading the Marvel New Universe in the mid 80s and one story still sticks out in my mind all these years later and I can't seem to find it and want to read it again. It was shortly after The Pitt one shot and I believe it was published as a backup story Iin Star Brand.  I remember it dealt with a family in a car who kinda got sucked into the The Pitt and they became like a blob and kept expanding consuming everything.  Anyone remember this story and where I could find it?

    Thanks!

Just a shot because I don't know for sure but the story "Return to the Pitt" appears in Star Brand 17.

  2. Yeah, I know it's a huge hassle and that's a big reason all the books I've been purchasing the last 40 years...I still have.

Just too much trouble selling them properly. I was actually thinking more in terms of books which are worth hundreds of dollars that I purchased back in the '80's. X-Men 129, Moon Knight 1, Micronauts 1 (Variant), Machine Man 19...many of my copies have survived in perfect condition. Those I would definitely get graded if and when the time comes to sell.

Not really.  Educated buyers won't pay 9.8 money for a book they feel is less than a 9.8.  CGC may grade two books both 9.4s, but that doesn't mean they are equally valuable.

Agreed. However, any book that I thought could be a 9.8 I would most certainly get graded before I sold it if the price difference between a slightly lower grade (9.4/9.6) is significant. Although I wouldn't be confident in grading any raw book a 9.8, I wouldn't have a problem grading it with a chance at a 9.8.

I also have quite a number of books with subscription creases.  I'm no pressing expert (in fact, I've never had it done, and probably won't) but I have subscription crease books that I think would look a lot better after a press than some others.  In some instances, the top and bottom of the FC at the crease are "worn" almost like they were sticking out of the paper sleeve the books came in and rubbed up against other mail, or were smashed into something.  I wouldn't expect those to be helped at all by a press.

The other issue is getting the crease to disappear on the back cover as that's usually where the permanent crease is. However, I'm wondering if you can possibly do better than a 6.0 if by pressing it, the front cover comes out absolutely flat with no evidence of it having subscription crease. Naturally they would know it had one when they looked at the back cover. Another way to put it is would a book with a subscription crease on the back cover only with a couple corners indented like yours make it to a 7.0 or 7.5?

Do not apply Overstreets standards to CGC.  They use their own criteria.

Well you know what they say...grading is subjective, and this thread proves it..no matter if it's the collector, the investor, the seller, the buyer, Overstreet or CGC. The only one that counts however, is what CGC says. Thanks everyone for chiming in. For some reason this was really bugging me. I feel better about giving these one - tick books a 9.6, with an outside chance at a 9.8.

  6. If I understand the question....if you press a book with a subscription crease, the crease will still be there (back cover) so it won't help. If you press a book with a pocket crease, the crease may (or may not) completely disappear depending on the severity of the crease. At that point, whether or not you can tell the difference on how the crease got there, is a moot point. They will grade the book on how it looks after pressing. They wouldn't care what it looked like before the press.
