Very generally, you should look at CGC's website and see which sets of cards they grade.  Intuitively, you might think they grade most comic related cards.  In reality, they grade mostly Trading Card Games, and very very few comic-related cards, though they have said they plan to possibly add more comic-related sets to their grading pool (but have not specifically mentioned which sets or how soon).

As for your specific cards that you are asking about, I believe CGC does not grade those cards at this time (of course check for yourself).  If you are considering having them graded, you might consider other companies and doing your own cost/benefit analysis based on what you think the grades might be, a basic search on ebay will probably reveal some suitable alternatives and some achievable prices.  A detailed discussion of the grading attributes of a CGC competitor company may not be appropriate on these forums.

    Good luck.

Thanks revat! I realized after I made the comment that CGC does not slab these kinds of trading cards. Kind of surprised Marvel and DC cards weren’t the first on their list.
Looks like I’ll have to look at other venues.

I don't know about anyone else, but I went right to the Star Wars cards to see if the OP had the C3PO "error" card.  It's there!  (photo #48, lower left)

While not worth a huge fortune, it's definitely one of the more notable cards of the set!

    LMAO

Thanks for the chuckle, had no idea these even existed. And looks I have two of them.

I've also been doing some of my own homework and a lot of the Marvel hologram sets are worth a decent penny. A few of the 6 card sets can be found sold around $60-80.

Sorry for your loss. Can you share how your father came to collect these?

My dad collected all of these before I was old enough to know what they are. I knew he was always a huge fan of big boxing matches, followed high school wrestling, and enjoyed some DC/Marvel shows and comics. He once told me he had a collection of trading cards but never understood the extent of it until recently.

If nothing else since you already have the pictures, maybe post them here to show what all you have .

I know I am interested to see what all is in the collection.

The 1979 Marvel Topps bubble gum cards will be well received. They are prized items now esp in decent shape.

It was difficult to take photos of the hologram card so if you need a specific picture of one just let me know. Also if you see multiples of the same card it means there are duplicates.

  5. Hello all. I have inherited roughly 5,000 trading cards from my father spanning over about 8 card binders. They range from Star Wars to Marvel to DC to old boxing cards to 1979s Topps Chewing Gum.

From what I can see they are mostly complete sets and in near perfect condition.

I have taken over 500 photos of them all and curious where I should go from here and if I have any gems hiding inside. Where is the best place to upload the images? Is it better to sell them as a complete set or individually?

thanks for all and any help!

65 participants have submitted their grades.  Several people who did not sign up for the contest also submitted grades.  Just so everyone knows, there are no exceptions for allowing people to participate if you did not sign up.  Sorry.  Look for the summer edition around July.

Damn... am I really too late to sign up? I was just about to submit my grades to you. Ugh!

:news: not all comics :news: are worth slabbing :news:

This is personally my biggest issue. I can't honestly grade them myself without being biased. There's no easy button in deciding which ones to send off.. having to factor overall grade which equates to a fair market value then minus CGC fee and shipping costs.

Or perhaps I can forgo any CGC grading and try to sell them here on the forum since there arent any fees like eBay.

I wouldn't submit anything until you have an idea what anything is worth.

It's 216 business days, not calender days and I'd be surprised if they kept to that timespan.

I was reading online about the Megacon happening in Orlando in May. CGC will be on-site to accept submissions. Do you know how this works exactly? I don’t live too far from Orlando and figured I could save on shipping costs by attending. Could also ask around for potential buyers, maybe.
