Greetings. Yes, these appear to be nice enough to submit for grading. However, a few words of caution are necessary here. As I'm sure you know, the spines on these early FM's are very fragile and prone to splitting (I see they already have various degrees of this problem from your pictures). If you end up submitting these for certification, please don't have them pressed. There's a very good chance this would result in further splitting, popped staples, etc. They are one of the few titles that are not a very good candidate for pressing (especially the early issues). Also, if you're going to submit, make sure the books are complete with no missing pages and no cut-outs, and put a fragile sticker on each one of the bags.

The #2 is pretty scarce in any grade. It has value even in the condition it's in. The #7 has 3 different cover versions and your copy is the most common version. The #9 is the first Basil Gogos cover---a landmark issue. The grades would likely fall in the Very Good range depending upon how bad the spines are split---#7 looks to be in the best condition.

No matter what you decide, please handle these with care! They're fragile survivors from a bygone age... :)

Thank you for educating me on the grading process and the small history behind the series. I literally have boxes of Famous Monsters passed down from my dad and I will be posting more in the coming days from the earlier issues. This genre of magazines have a very small cult following so finding an interested retailer has become quite the difficult task. I figure I will slab my most wanted/early issues to try to get the most bang for my buck. The difference between a CGC and raw magazine price value is drastic!

Unless there is something hidden, I think it is at least 8.0, maybe even 8.5 . Looks very fresh. Nice book !

Spine ticks, what appears to be width long crease on the front bottom cover, the back crease OP pointed out and the blunted edges. Low quality res, those are the things I managed to pick out.

  3. My Comic Shop is the first to come to mind. It uses a barcode scanner to inventory all of your magazines and comics collection.

Note: This only works for post-1993 comics.

Back cover looks near perfect.  Front cover has some issues at each of the four corners, but presents very well.  I think 8.5, but a 9.0 would not surprise me.  (thumbsu

I'm going with an 8.5. The very small tear on the front bottom left keeps it from a 9.0.

Your father evidently knew about CGC but chose to leave most raw.

Study the ten graded books you have, until you understand what defects caused the books to get the grades they have.

Then start comparing the raw books to them.

My father never sent in any of his magazines to be graded. I know for a fact that he purchased his slabbed magazines online years ago.

Thank you, will take your advice.

I think it's 5 or 6 dollars per reject but not sure on magazines. I think it's at their discretion depending on what percentage of book pass. Regarding the Walkthough tier, there is MINIMUM charge of 80.00 per magazine (150.00 on a comic book). Also, there is no Prescreen for Walkthrough.

Eeeek! I wasn't aware it was an $80 per magazine! I will definitely have to consider what I will be sending in with a fine tooth comb.
