If you made a profit from the sale, why wouldn't you owe taxes?

No one said only 1% of collectors want to display their books, but even the ones who wish to only display a fraction of their collections, hence the 99% of books are in boxes. MCS, alone, has 27,000 plus slabs. I know a number of people with over 1,000 slabs. I stand by my statement that 99% of slabs are stored in boxes or other methods that uv coating would do nothing for. Until now, any changes in the slabs have been mostly cosmetic. Changing to an UV resistant slab would make older slabs obsolete and worth less. Why would a company off it's customers by doing something a small minority would take advantage of.

I was set up at a show on Long Island around 1988 and the woman next to me was selling a large SA collection she had inherited. She had priced every book right out of Overstreet and her strategy was to price everything at the Mint price and offer discounts. Her morning sales were pretty weak so she marked everything down and had a good afternoon. As she was packing up, she found a stack of early TTAs, 35-55 that she had forgotten to put out. She asked me if I wanted them and i told her they were really slow sellers and might be the least valuable SA Marvels from that period. She asked me if Id take the lot for $100 and I said no. She offered $50 and I looked at them more carefully. The 35 had bad color touch and 38 was no better than a very weak VG, so I passed. Finally she offered them at $20, a buck a book, and I had to say yes. Most of the books were readers, but the 44 was in nice shape. Years later, MCS called it a 5.0 and it sold the first day I listed it. I still have the 35, bad color touch and all. Someday, when Egghead reaches his rightful place in the MCU universe, ..........

I had three related books on a website. I had hoped to sell them quickly and priced them at $50 each. In two weeks, I recieved eight offers for them, all between $39 and $46. I felt $50 was more than fair and rejected them all. Yesterday, I raised the price of the book to $65 each and woke up to five overnite offers of more than $50. I got $56, 55 and 53 for them. Im tempted to raise the prices on a few more slow sellers.

Masters of the Universe/ Teen Titans 25
shadroch replied to shadroch's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
That explains some of it but why are the first and third appearences so valuable and the second isn't? Both of them are far more comon than the Preview. -
Can someone explain this? The Titans premiere in DC Presents 26, in a insert included in every copy. DC Presents 26 sells for more than Titans #1 and seems to be mch more desirable. Masters of the Universe #1 seems to have picked up steam and is closing in on $1,000 in 9.8. It has about 900 slabed copies. He Man and Company actually debut in an insert of Teen Titans 25, published about a month before MOTU #1. It has less than 100 slabbed copies and a 9.8 just sold for $70. TT 25 came first and has a fraction of the number of 9.8s, and overall slabs. I smell opportunity.

Organization is over-rated.

I loved HTD and the various villians. Master of Quack Fu is one of my favorite BA tales, but by issue 12 I was buying it just to because it was a Marvel and my world would collapse if I missed one. I could only take Steve Gerber in small doses.

Where can you find the hidden gems these days ?
shadroch replied to FrankG's topic in Comics General
Did anybody see the Judge Judy with the Lego's case? A guy rsponded to an internet ad offering 200 pounds of Legos for $600 or so. He gets them home and weighs them and it is only 70 pounds. He wants a partial refund since it is roughly a third of the advertised weight. The judge is not the least bit sympathetic and the seller says the buyer has some of the stuff on line and is asking over $100,000 for it. Judge looks at the ad and dismisses the case. The ad is for Legos and the price listed was $123456. -

How does one fish? By casting a wide net. How do you get to Carnigie Hall? For most people, the answer is the subway, but for a few it is by practicing. -
Whats the return rate? I tried shipping some books there and it was over $60 for a couple of raw books.

Buying a Stan Lee signed amazing fantasy 15
shadroch replied to subash's topic in The Signature Room
So you are looking for people to help you illegally launder out of your country? I'm currently helping two Nigerian Princes who are in the same situation. I also have a long lost relative in Indonesia who is looking to move some eight millions of dollars out of his country. Perhaps you could piggyback transactions with him. -
Value Predictions Down the Line?
shadroch replied to heyyybrotherrr's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
FF Annual 6 and/or Power Pack 1, as evident by the tremendous box office success of the Fantastic Pack movie franchise. Also any comic featuring the 45Th President of the UsofA. -

Open it up... or keep it sealed..
shadroch replied to Calm-Mix's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
As long as it is sealed, it is a potential 9.8.
