  1. I'd leave it sealed. A CGC 9.4 might get you $100-125, while a raw will bring you $50. After grading and shipping, it's almost a wash. If it goes up in the future, you can submit it then.
  2. It is a really good read, as I recall.
  3. Then again, slabbed books might be much rarer in Australia so they could command premiums.
  4. Shipping cost to and from Australia would make it impractical to slab most books. There are much better and far cheaper ways to preserve your books. A mylar and a fullback will do the same job for about $1US.
  5. I recall being scoffed at a few years ago for putting that book in my top 100 BA Marvels.
  6. I use 775s, although some people use 825s. Bags range from 725-825, with 725s being for the newest books which are narrower than older books. . A 725 bag is 7.25 inches wide while an 825 bag is 8.25 inches wide. All comic bags fit any comic height wise, it's the width where they differ. Some wider bags(825s) don't fit into comic boxes when used with the correct backing board.
  7. Nice, My original collection is long gone but for two books. I kept my Avengers 57 and years later I found a Lomax/Police Action that had been stuck in the bottom of drawer.
  8. I just want to remind people that as their collections go up, you need to think about increasing your insurance. I have my entire collection valued at $50,000 for insurance yet a fraction of it has sold for 100K. Many of our collections have doubled in value in the last year. Have you doubled your insurance?
  9. So the titles have been corrected. My apologies for any confusion. All bids based prior to this post have been retracted due to my error and both books are available at the starting bids of $10 each.
  10. Lot 2) Startling Comics 39 Spring 1946. Nice Schomburg gag cover where Pyro-Man uses his powers to recharge batteries. The book presents nicely, but has tape on half the spine, and a chunk out of back corner. Also has what is commonly referred to as "Marvel Chipping" Non stop action as Pyro-Man,and the Fighting Yank take on evil doers. Its in the 1.0-2.0 range. Starting bid is $10, the cost of shipping
  11. Rulez. No bad people Free domestic shipping. BIN is $200 each or $332 for both. Paypal only, US lower 48 only. Ask any questions before you bid. Returns at your expense PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE AUCTION END. IF NO PAYMENT OR CONTACT, YOUR WIN IS VOIDED. NO EXCEPTIONS I hate to do it but a few bad apples have soured me. Dont ask for an extension while hitting the I'll take it on other threads. First up is a beat up, incomplete copy of Thrilling 46. A fantastic Doc Strange cover where Doc beats up some Nipponese spys outside of a B-29 plant. Schomburg WW2 era covers are the Gold Standard of our hobby and you may never get a chance to get a cheaper one. The book is missing its centerfold and the next wrap, and has a really bad spine roll Let's start this one off at $10, the cost of shipping.
  12. Don't stick all your eggs in one basket. Since diversification works best in life, I figure it works best in collecting as well. Your mileage may differ. This is a hobby. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy it.
  13. Remember you only pay taxes on the profit, not the gross sales. Assuming the cost of goods is 30-50% of the selling price, putting aside 10% of the gross sale covers the taxes owed. Buy a book for $400, sell it for $1,000. $600 gross profit- $60 ebay fees, $30 paypal, $10 assorted expenses. $600-$100= $500 profit. 10% of sale price =$100.
  14. We don't use the "W" word. I prefer to say it is playing out well., but I appreciate the good thoughts.
  15. At the six month mark, I'm happy to say sales are going fantastic. I should pass $100,000 in sales this month, and have not touched the heart of my collection. I let go a few books I may regret- Captain America 4 and Superman 14 stand out, but the more I sell, the more i'm willing to sell. Last week I sent 40 big books out on consignment and am preparing to ship 120 raw books and about forty slabs in the next two weeks. I've bought about $6,000 worth of books , set aside 10% for taxes and banked the rest in a separate account. I'm thinking of buying a Tesla pickup but have not got serious yet either. The bad part is I have not touched the approx. 3,000 Tpbs or sold any of my modern stuff, outside of a single yard sale that generated $300. I've reduced my overall inventory less than 5% and am well behind my goal of moving 50% of it, but I'm having a great time doing it. To my amazement, i'm still finding nice books in boxes I thought were searched. Last night I pulled a NM Transformers 1 out of a box of SA Avengers and a VF Thor 169 out of a box of SA reprint books. I am really amazed what many books are selling for. Books I paid $5-8 for five years ago are going for $40-50, and many books I paid $25 or less are selling in the $100 range. One book I paid $800 for in 2015 sold for $5200 and another I paid $250 for in 2011 sold for $4300. So far, so good. No Regerts,as they say.
  16. For $100, you can now be a part owner of CGC. Life is good.
  17. For less than $100,you can become a part owner of CGC. God bless America.
  18. Wondering about the 12 cents being crossed out and the 6 c above the code. I’m thinking they are okay on a VGish book.
  19. Blackstone may parcel up the company and sell off different divisions.
