Welcome to the 2022 CGC Chat Boards Gift Exchange For those who are new to the program or otherwise have a very bad memory, the idea is simple. Basically you will give a gift to a fellow board member, and also receive a gift yourself from a different boardie. This way, each person will get to interact with two fellow boardies in the Gift Exchange Program. It does not matter what seasonal Holiday you celebrate, what creed or religion you claim, this Gift Exchange is more about giving and getting a gift than celebrating a specific holiday. We are celebrating comics and our community. Times may currently be tough for some, but it is worth pausing to recognize the importance the CGC community brings to each of you. Some Details on the Gift Exchange Program How much should my gift be for? Up to you. There are people that send gifts that have values that are all over the place. $15-20? Sure. $50-$100? Sure. You are certainly welcome to send more expensive gifts, but the gift should be worth at least $15. Lots of people just give something from their own collection, so the cost is negligible. Does my gift have to be new? No Does it have to be comic related? Yes Am I supposed to sign who my gift was from? Yes, you should - your identity is only secret till they open their gift. Do I have to wrap my gift in a Holiday fashion? Yes. Extra points for wrapping it in the Sunday Comics Am I supposed to wait until Christmas to open my gift? Yes, unless you celebrate another holiday in which case, follow your holiday gift opening tradition. How will I know who I am Santa for? You will receive a PM with your recipients details once sign up is over. When is sign up over? Friday, November 18th at 10pm (ET) PMs with your Secret Santa information will be sent out the very next day. Everyone who signs up will have their PM by Saturday night (11/19). This gives everyone one full month plus to shop, wrap, and ship. It seems like a long time, but it goes quickly and shipping, obviously, takes longer over the Holiday season... so please, if you sign-up, DO NOT DELAY!!! What if I miss sign up but want to participate? Sorry. No late sign-ups will be accepted this year. If you know a board member who you think would like to participate, contact them asap so they do not miss the deadline. What if I never receive my gift? There will be people who will be assigned as a back up Santa. Everyone who signs up will get a gift... sooner or later. Who is eligible to participate? Anyone who signed up to be a member of this community on or before July 17, 2022 with a current post count of at least 30 is eligible for participation in the Gift Exchange (For those who do not meet the above criteria, we, as a community, apologize. Hang-in there and be active... next year will be worth the wait.) What and when is the Holiday raffle? This year, all raffle information will be kept completely separate from the Gift Exchange. There will be a separate thread created for the 2022 Holiday Raffle sometime after the Gift Exchange match-ups have been PM'd. (late Nov./early Dec.) Please do not add any Raffle information to the Gift Exchange form below thinking I've forgotten/neglected to add it... be patient and make all Raffle replies and inquiries in those upcoming threads. If you sign up, please follow through and don't wait until after the fact to fulfill your duties. The rules are simple, but need to be followed to make sure everyone who signs up gets a present for the Holiday. This is not the "Official" sign-up thread... it has "Ho.. Ho.. Ho!" as a title and no sign-up instructions what-so-ever. This is an announcement to get all you good little boys and girls riled up, conversing, and speculating for a few weeks.

@Selecta is currently on the probation list for purchasing and not paying in 2017. Apparently, he was on the PL in 2014 for the same thing and somehow got themselves removed. They were also a deadbeat Santa for @skypinkblu in 2017, but he wasn't added to the PL until after the Gift Exchange was over for that year. If I'd had known about his transgressions before hand, I may have barred his participation in 2017.

The Gift Exchange and Raffle are not compulsory. It's not like I PM people out of the blue and say, "Ho Ho Ho, guess what! You're sending a gift to ____". People who sign-up understand that they sign-up with a promise to transact. Any inability to complete that transaction is always handled in house to make the offended party whole. But it's a paper prison, correct. Unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't really stop any person on that list from transacting on the board. A nomination/placement on the PL (or HOS if it's multiple offenses) would simply inform the community to transact with this member with caution... just like every other name on that list.

A serious question then: What is the point to an HOS/PL list at all? Just keep a personal "do not sell to" list and be done with it.

Should conversations about people who flake-out in the Gift Exchange/Raffle be confined to those threads? Would this save the integrity of the HOS/PL discussions?

They will not be allowed to participate in future Gift Exchange and Holiday Raffles regardless of the vote. HOS and PL members are also banned from participation.

I know some have been asking, this was Tghutcn's (Brady Purvis) first time in the gift exchange and raffle. The Holiday Gift Exchange and the Holiday Raffle are two separate events held at the end of the year on these chat boards. I have run the Gift Exchange since 2017 and @The Sledder has run the Raffle for the past few years. Here's a little timeline of the events involved in the creation of this nomination thread: November 1, 2021 - Officially signs up for the gift exchange by sending me (via PM) the required form. November 19, 2021 - He receives his gift exchange recipient (board member @adampasz) from me via PM. November 22, 2021 - Asks, via PM to me, to remind his sender to wrap the gifts inside the box and not to wrap the outside of the box as his post office has been known to unwrap and open wrapped parcels. December 8, 2021 - Tghutcn sends me a PM stating: December 13, 2021 - Tghutcn agrees to participate in the raffle by posting in the raffle thread: For those who do not know, by posting in the raffle thread an agreement to participate AND offering up a named gift is considered official entry into the raffle. December 24, 2021 - Tghutcn acknowledges receipt of his gift exchange present from @comicginger1789 December 26, 2021 - comicginger1789 claims the raffle prize offered up by Tghutcn December 26, 2021 - Tghutcn acknowledges that comicginger1789 has claimed his raffle prize, even going so far as to state, "I’ll mark sure to put some nice stuff in there for you". December 26, 2021 - Tghutcn claims his first prize in the raffle. Prize donated by WEBHEAD December 26, 2021 - Tghutcn claims his second prize in the raffle. Prize donated by JazzMan December 26, 2021 - Tghutcn thanks Sledder for running the raffle and states, "I look forward to participating next year again if it’s on". That is the last of the gift exchange/raffle posts that are made by Tghutcn. He continues to post, seemingly like normal, until his last board post on January 19, 2021 in the Bronze X-Men thread. March 31, 2022 - comicginger1789 states in the 2021 Raffle Thread that he never received his raffle prize from Tghutcn and has not heard from him (via their PM exchange) since early February, 2022). May 31, 2022 - comicginger1789 states in the 2021 Raffle thread that he has still not received his raffle prize and has not been able to contact Tghutcn. June 1, 2022 - Board member adampasz states that he never received his 2021 Holiday Gift Exchange present. This was supposed to be coming from Tghutcn. And.... here we are. That is all I know from what I can gather from board threads and my own PMs. I know it's long, but I hope it helps put things into order.

I've looked at a few of those places. I even tried looking for obituaries in his listed town.

After looking through this past years raffle thread, @Tghutcn actually grabbed up 2 raffle prizes due to his placement in the raffle: The first was a prize offered by @WEBHEAD The second was a prize offered by @JazzMan

I save all the personal info that is sent to me from everyone. I do my best to make a list of questionable applicants (thankfully the list is very small) and compare it to the following years.
