The power of a Lichtenstein is not derived from the lines swiped from the original comic panels. If he wanted to, he could certainly have created his own - but, that wasn't the point of Pop Art. But, that's beside the point - the power of Lichtenstein's comic paintings is derived from taking the original panel out of context and re-purposing it, as well as transforming it into a larger size, with brighter colors, thicker lines and Ben-Day dots to simulate mechanical/photographic reproduction as if it were done by a commercial printer. It was innovative, breakthrough stuff at the time, and has since become an important, iconic part of art history. The source material, on the other hand, was not innovative or important in any way, shape or form. :sorry:

For the longest time I was on the Heath side of this argument.  Over the past few years, however, I've had the opportunity to view a pop art exhibit in Dallas that included a Lichtenstein and a full Lichtenstein exhibit in DC, which included not only numerous examples of his pop art pieces but his other works of art too.  I am now in the Lichtenstein camp.  If you have not had the opportunity to view a  Lichtenstein painting in person, I highly recommend it.  I was surprised how taken I was by the art and its presence in the room.

First time caller long time listener. Love the show. (thumbs u

This is probably a stupid question, but are the shirt and pants made of cloth or are they the same material as the rest of the statue?

  3. I really don't feel bad. The seller replied to my PM's today with a more than reasonable reason he had not got back to me.

I had been very clear that I would take the books back if he was not happy.

Grading is aways subjective, and even a slab can look different once it is in hand.

    No worries

I give you alot of credit

Plus I was able to raise my posting to new highs

  4. Overdue kudos to the following sellers:

Carolina Comics - I have been buying on this forum for more than 5 years and my transaction with Andrew was easily one of the best buying experiences I have ever had. Not only did I get a sweat deal on a DD1, but the packing was super tight and the book was delivered 2 days after I paid for it.

October - Andy more than deserves the incredible sellers reputation he has developed on these forums. The two deals I have had with him have been exceptional. His grading is spot on and the shipping was fast and safe.

bubbagump - I have done more deals with Rick than just about anyone else on these forums. If TPBs and HCs were crack, he would have all of my money. He is always willing to cut a great deal, and his packing and shipping are top notch.

ShieldAgent - Harry...you da man! You keep selling those Joe SMFs, and I will keep buying them.

Socratic Wonder - Thanks to Ronoldo I finally have a copy of SOTI on my bookshelf. The fact that I got it at such a good price is icing on the cake.

sckao - If you are planning on moving anytime in the future, just buy a few books from Shin. The box and amount of packing materials he used to ship my books was incredible. Upon opening the enormous box I felt like the dad in A Christmas Story..."why there could be anything in there." Instead of the electric glow of sex, I got a bunch of sweet azz Miraclemans and Warrior mags.

An extra special kudos shout out to the signature series witnesses that have hooked me up over the past few months...Desertwind Comics, thecollector, and pirate. All of them are class acts and have made my forray into the sig series program a welcome addition to my comic collecting.

    :headbang: (thumbs u :applause:

  5. Great minds think alike. (thumbs u Good luck!! We will have to compare when they get back. What Stan Lee signing did you send it to??
doh!Nevermind the one on the 22nd .Send me a Pm when you get it back I'd like to compare :)

Actually, you are right. I was not paying attention to the exact dates either. I sent mine to the Paradise signing that happened yesterday. Still, should be fun to see how the two books come back.
