  1. I picked it up last night at my comic shop (I preordered it). It looks good. It even has a little red ribbon bookmark. I haven't read it yet (too much going on last night), but I did leaf through it. I do remember quite a few of the cartoons, I guess from the old Dennis The Menace and More Dennis The Menace paperbacks by Avon. The back cover says something about reprinting the complete "panels" of this comic strip, so I guess they have no current plans to reprint the Sunday strips (boo).
  2. Speaking of The Complete Dennis The Menace, I understand it is out in bookstores now, and will be in comic shops tomorrow (according to the latest Diamond list). Yay! I'll get my copy this week (probably tomorrow)!
  3. Boy, it's been dead here recently... I guess we're all in a line at the bookstore waiting for The Complete Dennis The Menace to come out... Fred Hembeck has another Dennis item in his blog here. Scroll down to the August 20th, 2005 entry. He's briefly talking about Dennis the Menace #7 (Marvel), cover featuring Spider-Kid!
  4. The root beer ad was from me, posted somewhere in the middle of this thread. Wow, Morning Funnies! I had completely forgotten about that. I think I still have one of those cereal boxes (collapsed) somewhere. I think they had comic strips in a format just like in the Sunday comics but original for these boxes. I also have some of the Sears catalog cartoons, but I cut them out at the time, and pasted into pages placed into a notebook. That notebook since got water damage, but I still have it. Thanks for all the ad images!
  5. Over at The Pulse , there is a new interview with Fantagraphic's co-owner Gary Groth where he discusses the upcoming Complete Dennis the Menace project. There are several Dennis cartoons imbedded in that interview. And project it is, for he says "Dennis will follow the same schedule as our Peanuts volumes: two volumes per year, each volume containing two years of the strip." Unfortunately, no mention of what he plans to do with the Sunday strips.
  6. Those of you not reading the strip currently are missing an occassional gem, such as this one from May 12th, 1999:
  7. I ran across this forum a few weeks ago, and have been enjoying it since. Time to go ahead and introduce myself. I'm a Dennis collector from way back (since about 1968), collecting the strips, books, and the comic books. I have a near-complete Dennis comic book collection (for instance, of the main title, I'm just missing #2, 4, 70, 72, 78, 100, 142, and 143), but I still haven't gotten around to using eBay to finish it off. While I definitely prefer the Wiseman stuff, I still like it all. I also don't believe in slabbing comics; only reading them. I don't have many old strips; just one small collection of 50s stuff I bought; otherwise, just stuff I've saved since 1969 or so. I'm looking forward to the new Complete Dennis book series. As my contribution, I'm adding an attachment that I found on some auction (probably Yahoo) about a year ago: a Dennis the Menace ad for A&W Root Beer, from 1966. I used to go to a similar A&W in Owego, New York about that time when I was a kid. I recently went to a similar one in Modesto, California (apparently it was used for the drive in restaurant in the American Graffiti movie).
