Thanks again - he messaged me that he has other silver-age non graded books for sale. We are going to meet in a public location - and look at the other books.

Nice, I'll watch the news in South Florida for the craigslist comic book transaction gone wrong in Jacksonville story to see how the sale goes.  Good luck!

  2. Heritage is up to 2500 if I remember correctly, for purchases above that I've used ACH.  I know Hakes I won just under 1000$ before and they took credit card.  With MyComicShop I won just under 500 and the checkout allowed me to use credit card, I paid and they never notified me that they didn't take my credit card payment, I found out after a week of the transaction not going from pending on my card to captured and turned out that the transaction was supposedly too large for a first time customer and they never notified me.  That pretty much soured me from ever using MyComicShop personally.

How are your "small", "medium", and "large" ratings determined?  Because the same $1,000 will get you a nice copy of any of them.

Ya, price wise, a 9.0 in those would go ASM13, ASM50 with ASM129 distant third.

It states coins are an exclusion...? Was this listed in the wrong category or something...?

I've gotten pre 64 coins before with the 10% ebay bucks back promotion, not sure on the $3 coupon.  Usually they just say it doesn't count for bullion, but the listing for coins are in a different category.  Usually I get the lowest priced of readable date halves, preferably walking liberties, then if I want bullion too I'll get some eagles or poured bars with the ebay bucks I get back.

I'm not reporting any negative story about this seller (probably a boardie actually?) but before I bid with him I am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with him? :

    hotintheshade2013

He has seven negatives in the last year (out of 73 FB), all basically complaining of the same thing- he cancels orders when the book doesn't sell as high as possibly hoped. Wondering if anyone can vouch for (or against?) him. To bid on one of his auctions, I'd have to shift my work schedule and don't want to do that if there's a good chance of cancellation.

Just put in what your max bid that you are comfortable with now and let it be.  You win you win you lose you lose.  That way no waiting or stressing over it.

    Great thread.

Here are a few speculations that i think will surge:

FANTASTIC FOUR #49-reason: first appearance of SILVER SURFER and GALACTUS featured on a cover plus the black cover makes this a tough book to find in high grade.

X-MEN #10-reason: first silver age appearance of Ka-Zar and Savage Land. Rumors are that this character will enter the MCU.

X-MEN #9-reason: first X-MEN vs AVENGERS. With X-Men returning to the MCU it is only a matter of time.

    AVENGERS #48-reason-1st Black Knight

Interesting books but not so much mega keys.

How much do you guys think is reasonable to pay for a SS Stan Lee book vs a universal copy in the same grade? It seems like a lot of books on eBay carry a $800-$1000 premium for Stan's sig. Is that the going rate? I want one and have been looking for some time but maybe I am being too picky/cheap and should just pull the trigger. I ask here because I am pretty much only looking for a silver age ASM key signed by The Man.

I would check Heritage or a lesser known auction house (pedigree/hakes).  If you catch Heritage right, there are weeks where items hammer strong and weeks they hammer weak, you might be able to grab something at a decent price there, I think some people don't understand how the buyer's premium/tax/shipping works there.  I've gotten some decent deals off Hakes and seen some at Pedigree as well.

In the fantasy world where I'd be in the market for the book, there would be zero chance I'd bid on one from someone with 30 feedback and especially with no other big sales viewable in their feedback.  Bad enough I got burned on an X-men 1 for 6500 a couple months ago (which didn't end up going through and eBay shutting down the auction/seller account) not to mention an ASM 14 I bought and the seller never shipped either (which eBay refunded me the money).

Didn't a similar thing happen to the sports card market? They slowly started to pump more and more variants, chase sets, low print things in the packs till the whole pack became nothing but a variant pack. After which the pack became to expensive for the average person to buy and all the items in the pack had to be top dollar to recoup costs. Now nothing is worth much anymore.

Is the same going to happen to the comic book market ? Now books increase 10 times there worth by just a mention of being in a new movie or show. How long will that last? Now you have to be rich to actually collect in this market.

Ya, but vintage baseball card market is on fire now too.  So, like Yukon Cornelius said, silver and gold.

  10. To get the point back on task, its up to the owner to store it right, if they store it somewhere where the staples get rusted due to humidity, drop a book or get SCS then of course if its to get reholder it should be downgraded.  It would be negligent of CGC not to and as much as its a bummer to the owner it would be equally a bummer to the next owner but the difference is its deceptive on the owner that would know this grade would be changed.  Now, I think others also point this out that this is if there is new visible damage, not just another crack of grading it and I think the price for reholdering shows they are going to go indepth in grading.

I don't understand why everyone is puzzled by the rise in BA keys. We have seen this cycle how many times now - SA keys jump to new price levels, starting with the top books and then the rest, and then BA keys play catch up a year or two later. IH 181 was the first BA key to spike in the BA cycle, and now the rest are following suit - check out prices on TOD 10, WWBN 32, MS 5, etc. The one book that is not running up with the others right now is ASM #129 - this may be due to the fact it spiked with the Punisher Netflix show, or a sign that it might be time to pick up a copy before it is too late.

Regardless, once IH 181 ran up during the main convention season last year, it was only a matter of time for other BA keys to follow just like in past cycles.

Disney acquiring Fox definitely helps WWBN 32, MS 5 & TOD 10 to an extent and I do think the cancelling of the Netflix series is going to suppress ASM 129 value at least for a while, but the other thing is Punisher's first appearance was in ASM which was one of the most read/collected series at the time vs ToD, WWBN, and MS 5.  ASM 129 has about 3x the graded count in census and though he might be more popular than Moon Knight and Blade, not sure he is 3x more popular than Ghost Rider.  TBH WWBN 32 and probably ToD price run doesn't make too much sense to me as thats more speculation, but MS5 with a popular B level character that just had crappy representation in movies is an interesting option.

So, I recently bought something from a UK seller, and, as a buyer, I've never dealt with the Global Shipping Program. The seller sent me a picture of the package...not boxed, by the way, but merely "padded envelope", despite me asking for them to be protected, which is sure to equal disaster...and they didn't include the GSP reference # on the package. In fact, they simply wrote the UK address of the GSP by hand on the package.

That package is never going to arrive to me, is it...?

They sent me a picture of the package with a UK address, and at first I was confused, and said that I don't live in the UK, but in the US, and maybe orders got crossed...?

The response I got back was "you need to contact eBay", which, of course, always sends me into the boughs. I didn't buy from eBay, I bought from you; your first response should NOT be "you need to contact someone else to deal with this." You're the seller...if you're going to use the GSP, you should be informed about it, and let the customer know that that's the GSP address, and don't try to pawn off your responsibility to someone else.

    Anyhoo.

I'm never going to see those books, right?

Maybe if you moved to the same address in the UK?

  13. For me, I live in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando is a few hours drive but I have friends up there I can crash at.  Was looking to see what days are the best days for going for books, not really concerned about any guests or cosplay or anything.  Also, haven't been to any before, what should I be expecting, should I just worry about buying or should I bring a few books that I wouldn't mind trading?  Any ideas for this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Do people leave negative or neutral feedback when a seller cancels an order? Happens to me about once a month. I buy something relatively quickly after it's listed, then the seller cancels within a few hours. Sometimes I get a note with some excuse for a price screwup (the latest was a distracting toddler), sometimes I don't. I've been leaving negatives or neutrals depending on the details, but maybe that is too harsh?

I think cancelling an auction because of the wrong price should get a neutral or negative, they are responsible for their auction as you are responsible for your bids.  Though its a shame they don't have some system for that for buyers now that they can only get positive feedback.
