  1. Quest Over...Welcome Home Frank!! Quest Over Welcome Home Frank!! Well I finally did it!! I have my NM copy of Amazing Spider-Man #129 1st appearance of The Punisher.. The Punisher is one of if not my favorite comic book of all time. So after 20+ years of collecting comics 6 mid to low grade copies 4 reprints. I have the copy I'm happy with so happy I look at it everyday now and can say " Yep you did it!! Now on to the next book" !! Thanks for reading guys.. 2. Amazing Spider-Man #238 Hello, This will be a quick journal entry because I don't have much to say about it. I picked up a copy of ASM #238 CGC 9.4 OW/W Pages. I always wanted this book even when I was a kid I thought the cover was bad . Little did I know when I was pint size it was a key book . When I started collecting in 92 I didn't even look for it kinda weird because when I was a kid I grew up on The Punisher & I started buying all the Punisher books I could.. Anyways I got a good price on this copy about what OPG says 9.2 is, so I'm happy with it & in this day of comic collecting since every book is hot my comic buying had slowed way down. I'm not one to pay a price premium just to say I have a book. If others want to do that it's cool it's just not my thing to do.. Anyways thanks for reading & until next time.. 3. The Crow #1 Signed by Mr. O'Barr This like a follow up to my favorite book I posted here is my copy of The Crow #1 CGC 9.6 Signature Series signed by James O'Barr! This was already graded by CGC once I cracked it for signature series good news is it came back the same grade. It always bothers me to crack CGC books for signature series because you never know if the book will come back the same grade, I guess I could just press everything but that costs money then again it would cost a lot more if I pressed it later on so who knows. I'm happy it looks nice, I would like to get the set signature series at least 9.4 & up then I would like to get an unsigned set all 9.8 but that's not cheap!! Thanks for reading.. 4. My Favorite book in my collection!! This is now my favorite book I own I've had it for a few months and posted it on The Crow thread but never in my journal so here it goes.. A long time ago in my life back in say 1993-1994 some where in there I was at my LCS and seen a copy of The Crow #1 I was attracted to the cover could be the all black cover (My Favorite Color) anyways when I asked about it the owner said it's on awesome book to have and a low print run to boot.. He went on to tell me there is a movie coming out based on it, I was like really well I want to read it, So I bought it. I went home read it went back and asked if he had the rest of them & he said he did so I got them too.. Now as I am reading this story I'm thinking who is this James O' Barr guy. Come to find out he's a Michigan native and he wrote the story about his girlfriend who was killed by a drunk driver, I was like wow I don't think I could do that if that was to happen to me. In 1996 is when I first met James O'Barr he signed by TPB, He was so awesome to finally meet I told all my friends about it . I have seen him plenty of times threw out the years & got my books signed by him I remember when I got my Crow #1 signed by him in 1997 he wrote JO'Barr 1997 Detroit on the cover & still to this day I have that book CGC 9.6 yes It's qualified but I do not care I know the signature is real. Since CGC started doing Signature Series books I have not had the chance to see Mr. O'Barr part due to the fact I left comic collecting in 2003-04 & started back up late 2013. So on to May 2014 when I read that Mr. O'Barr was going to be at Motor City Comic Con I was so stoked now was my chance so I took almost all my Crow books to get Signature Series, Some I took are worthless but mean something to me, I think collecting comics should be a personal thing and not always be based on if it's valuable or hot ATM.. On Saturday I got almost all my books signed, He was a busy man signing and doing sketches for ppl. I knew he was doing sketches for ppl but what I wanted was a blank sketch done so I could CGC it for Signature Series I know I didn't have too because there is no way I can draw like that(I can't draw anyways). He told me he would & said the price I was like done hell he could of said more I would of gladly paid it.. Well anyways I gave him my copy of Harley Quinn #0 We Can Be Heroes Edition, He asked me what I would like done on it I told him The Crow!! Now I'm not a big fan of letting an artist draw on a book he did not do but there are no Crow blank covers that I know of, Maybe now there is but ATM there wasn't.. And here she is an awesome sketch all done by James O'Barr it turned out great, It will never leave my collection I would sell my Hulk #181 before I would sell this!! Thanks for reading this long boring post!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. Preacher #1 Signed by Garth Ennis Well I got my book back from my friend who went to Baltimore Comic Con Garth Ennis was going to be there and he offered to get two books of my signed & CGC since I did it for him at my show back in May. So I gave him my Preacher #1 that was already CGC 9.2 old red label I thought about getting her pressed but when I took it out of the case I could see a slight color break on one corner & a spine tick here & there, So my thought was I would be happy with the book coming back a 9.2 maybe 9.0. Its a book I bought off the rack read it a few times and so forth. The result is... 9.2 I'm happy with the 9.2 she is still NM and a gem in anybody's collection Preacher is smoking hot right now and we all know that .. I'm very pleased thanks for reading... 6. New Team Begins!! Well my lone copy of X-Men finally returned from CCS & CGC!! I'm happy with the grade, 7.0 is the grade range I like my bronze age mega keys in I know some wouldn't call an X-Men #94 a mega key compared to GSX #1, but its still a key book I think most collectors would put on there want list.. When I was going through my books to have Chris Claremont sign I figured why not have him sign your X-Men #94 instead of some of your other ones, that way it might only be a 7.0 but it's also signed by Claremont, He's a funny guy that's for sure... When I put the book in front of him he told me take care of this book for obvious reasons, I thought that was pretty funny IMO!! I bought this book like 18-19 years ago, I'm not too keen on the PQ but it is what it is. Upgrading this book is not an option for me too expensive for my wallet, I'm happy & content with the copy I have... Enjoy & Thanks for reading!! 7. A Dream Book!! I finally got a dream book of mine,Hulk #181 I thought I would never get a copy really I didn't its so damn expensive and as each day passes it seams like it just keeps going up & getting out of reach for most collectors of course IMO!! I might of over paid for it a little bit, but I usually set a price of each book I willing to spend and this copy was in my price so I grabbed it, No its not the highest grade but at least I can say its off the list and if I never get to upgrade at least I can say I have it... 8. The Crow CGC Signature Series!! Finally my books are starting to come back from CGC, James O'Barr was at Motor City Comic Con and I am a big fan of The Crow & his work so I figured this is an awesome time to get some CGC SS so I did like 17 books for him to sign expensive yes but well worth it, Hope you like it.. So far... Caliber Presents #1 ( I already had this CGC at a 9.8 I'm just glad it came back the same grade) Caliber Presents #15 The Crow #1 ( This was already a CGC 9.6 just like caliber presents 1 just happy it too came back the same grade) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 9. Preacher #1 SS A buddy of mine is going to Baltimore Comic Con in Sept. and offered to get my copy of Preacher #1 Signed by Garth Ennis!! I think it will look pretty sweet in a CGC Gold Label!! I'm not to worried what grade it comes back in I'll not selling it anyway. But on that note too I would still like to see it back in the same grade or a 9.4 at least... 10. Joining The Boards I just wanted to say hello to everyone that writes journals. I have always enjoyed reading what everyone else collects. Although I'm new here I'm not new to the world of collecting comics. So I'm not a stranger to everyone here's some basic info on me: I've been collecting comics most of my childhood but didn't seriously start collecting until around 1993-94. Mostly what I bought was copper age and modern age books. A few bronze age books here and there. I starting sending books to CGC when they first opened and boy did that change me a lot. Not only was my grading off, but I just love the look of my books in CGC slabs. In 2003 I took a leave of absence from collecting comics. Not that I wanted to, but at the time I had too. In 2012 I started collecting again. I look forward to rebuilding my CGC collection. Everyone has such amazing sets, I just wish I had the funds to do that. I've been enjoying reading and learning you can never learn enough my mother always told me and she was right! I am excited to dive into this community and be apart of it as we move forward. Happy comic book collecting everyone!! -Ira To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
