He wasn't being rude, he was being forthright.  If you want the answers, go to the bank.  If you're going to get emotional, you won't get much in the way of help from other boardies.  And believe me when I say that revat's response is a whole lot more measured than some of the other clowns on these boards who could potentially chime in.

What you're asking is something that is generally unheard of.  Your best course of action is to go directly to the source.

Have news for you . Not desperate for answers . Curious if anyone here has experience . You want me to be desperate is that it ?
Haha , you guys are a joke . IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER THEN DON'T REPLY . You see how easy that is ? Instead you come in here to comment on something that is none of  your business . You have no answer and you come here for what exactly ? Ah you know what I am talking about . You are the emotional ones and you want to spin it the other way . LOL . Now I will turn off my notifications , bye byeeee .

If you have a specific question to ask, then ask it with details.  The details matter.

I don't appreciate you being rude to me . I have done nothing wrong . My specific question was has anyone successfully applied for a loan for comics . Then I explained I want it for some big keys . Then you come here pounding the table , what is your problem ? Go away please .

No, but as a banker, I am telling you exactly the option you have if you want to apply for a bank loan for comics. Go to your bank and ask for a personal loan, see how much they allow you to borrow.

Thanks . What about using my current collection as collateral , will that work ?

You have to take out a personal loan and use your current capital as the collateral (ie your house).

You cannot take out a loan and use the worth of the comic you wish to buy with the loan as collateral.

Alright , I know about collateral ... so have you successfully applied for a loan to buy comics ?

Not required to close the lid. But the one I used to use was 8.5 x 11. Not too big a deal to scan the book and the label seperately.

Yeah I don't know man , just can't make myself go half way on it , has to capture the whole case . Anyway looks like I am back to figuring out how to use my camera properly .

Not off the top of my head. I had an old Epson many years ago that worked for slabs but it would only run on XP and earlier.

Just do a search for "CCD Flatbed Scanner" and you will get a good amount of information and models. If you see some that look interesting check the specs and make sure it actually is CCD technology.

Looks like the CCD Flatbed Scanners that are 8.5" x 14" are too expensive for me . There is an epson 8.5 x 11 that is affordable but if it is not going to fit the cgc case , it is not worth it . Can you tell me if the plustek 1180 scanner is acceptable ? it is not CCD though i think .

So it is not required for the lid to close ?

Regarding scanners, some do an excellent job with slabs but others are blurry because the book inside of the slab is not actually in contact with the glass but a small distance above it. You should look for a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) scanner rather than a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) scanner. The CCD scanner will produce those sharp slab images with crisp text. You can cut down on cost by getting an 8.5 x 11 scanner and scanning the book and then the label (with a bit of the book showing). Otherwise an 8.5" x 14" will fit the whole thing perfectly. Definitely an added expense but great if you plan on listing a number of books or listing fairly frequently, plus you have a scanner for other uses as well.

Do you have a make and model in mind ? Seems not easy for me to find after brief search ...

  8. 10% fee for direct sales :

Anyway , what bothers me , is I want to sell on mycomicshop and keep the winnings as credit to buy a big key
but everything is overpriced and the auctions are not very good , not likely I will find what I want .

On the other hand , I won't have that problem on HA but not sure how easy it is to sell there .

I didn't think I was a member of this club, until yesterday when I found I had this:

    and this:

I got down to the last 10 issues of the last box and found these two copies. It was just amazing, especially as I had no recollection of buying either one of them!

I have heard a lot of stories like this, and that makes collecting fun.  But this is the first time anything like that has happened to me!

That second copy looks really high grade after a press . 8.5 or better , anyone ?

When I first started out , I had this confusion too . But is not correct . The buyer is buying at fair market value . The seller is the one getting burned . Let's say FMV is $500 ( as per GoCollect ) . You are likely to get the book at $500 . The seller however is only getting $417 ( 20% less for commission) .

I don't know why they call it "buyer's premium" . I think it is a marketing gimmick to hide the fact that the seller is getting burned . It is just commission that seller has to pay .

    Agree with @Junkdrawer

The seller knows what the fees are leading into the transaction to sell on any of these platforms...HA, Ebay, C-Link. ComicConnect...I would hardly say that the seller is getting burned if they willingly decide to conduct business in this manner...

How else would an auction house make money unless they are charging a seller, a buyer or both?

Well , I am going by real estate rates which are like 6-7% . Altogether , would be paying 35% on HA . No way I am doing that . Anyway , I am unfollowing this thread as I am not interested in getting into a debate with you guys . Bye bye .

So, you are saying I'm confused when it's called a "buyers premium" and when I put the book into queue the premium is added to the sale price? I go to buy the 9.0 All Star 7 and there is a $300 add-on to the price plus tax and shipping and that's not a buyers premium?

The buyer is paying what he is willing to pay based on supply and demand . Everyone pays tax and shipping . This is fair market value . The seller is paying 20% commission .
If the seller wants to go and now buy the same book back , he has lost his buying power . It is the seller that is getting hurt . I am just explaining the facts . I don't want to get into any argument here and I don't see the need for one, I have just tried to be helpful to let you understand the facts , that is all .

P.S. When you bid at HA , what you will pay is already displayed . There are no surprises when you go to checkout , no premium is "added" .

This what you see under the bid button :
    next bid : $95
    w/bp : $114

So you know you are bidding $114 . Who cares how it is reported . You know you are bidding $114 .
