  1. I always assume when people say FMV , they are talking about GoCollect or GPA data . On youtube channels that is what people mean at least . FMV is just what people are willing to currently pay . As for Overstreet guide , I have no idea what they are talking about . It seems to me those prices are what dealers would be willing to pay for a not slabbed comic . Again , I think gullible sellers are the target here .
  2. When I first started out , I had this confusion too . But is not correct . The buyer is buying at fair market value . The seller is the one getting burned . Let's say FMV is $500 ( as per GoCollect ) . You are likely to get the book at $500 . The seller however is only getting $417 ( 20% less for commission) . I don't know why they call it "buyer's premium" . I think it is a marketing gimmick to hide the fact that the seller is getting burned . It is just commission that seller has to pay .
  3. I was comparing this copy to others on the site ( sold items ) and the footnote area actually looks larger on this supposedly trimmed copy . I can't tell that it is trimmed .
  4. Well I am talking about long term and my feeling is that all the stuff I have will multiply in value due to strong legacy . Of course , it would be really disappointing if the comics market totally crashed one day and nobody cared about it anymore . I think I was interested in what other people think and if there is anything that really compelled me to sell . I think the answer is no . Anyway , thanks for the interesting discussion everyone .
  5. Good point . Basically I am fine either way but looking for some financial justification for going one way or the other . Even though I don't like selling my comics , I still want them to appreciate in value . So is there an investment advantage to holding AF 15 vs holding the ones I have . That part I am not clear on . If there is no advantage , I prefer holding what I have .
  6. I would really like to start putting some runs together but I keep getting distracted by keys and other opportunities . I wish I has some focus , so many choices out there .
  7. No I have a large collection , I was just giving example of some .
  8. I think I am a buy and hold guy . I don't really see myself ever selling them but I suppose one day it may happen . I do want to upgrade some of these to higher grade but I guess that is low priority .
  9. Wondering if it is a good idea to sell off my collection and buy one mega key ( like AF 15 , Hulk 1 ) ? I have stuff like ASM 300 9.8 , JIM 83 3.5 , FF 48 5.5 , Iron Man 55 9.0 etc . I hate to get rid of it but it adds up so I can buy a mid grade or better AF 15 . Is this a viable strategy ? I've heard people advocating this but for me it seems like I am losing diversification . What opinions do you guys have ? Would also love to get some high grade Golden Age like Timelys . Are they too overpriced now ? Seems like they really ramped up in last 10 years .
  10. Off topic , what is the estimated time from being picked up at PO Box to showing up in the system ? My shipment was picked up on Dec 28 , still not updated in system . No rush just still have anxiety until I see it in system
  11. Seems like a lot of foxing on the cover for a 8.5 ? I'm no expert just asking ...
  12. Batman #1 9.4 ( yes 1940 ) White Pages just went up for January auction at HA ! I can hardly believe my eyes .
  13. It means mid-grade AF15 . What I am saying is I could buy a lot of cool books for the price of one AF15 . I am a little conflicted because how much can mid-grade AF15 rise long term compared to investing that money elsewhere . I don't know if you have checked upcoming HA auction , but pre-bid on X-Men 6.5 has already surpassed recent high FMV by 30% . I am not buying that's for sure and if I miss the boat well that's too bad . My sense is 2021 will be out of reach for me though .
  14. Yeah , Hulk seems to fit your criteria the most but I may hold off for awhile , save some money and go for higher grade . Maybe aim for AF15 . Is there anywhere else you guys would rather put your money besides these mega keys ? Golden Age or anything else at all ? With this kind of money I could buy a ton of other books .
  15. I can say that I agree with your second part yes . Anyway , I edited my post . Thanks .
  16. This . I am having a serious case of FOMO right now . With the stimulus and vaccine coming , markets are melting up . I definitely plan on holding long term ( forever maybe ) but I hate having to buy at these prices when just a few months ago I could have done much better .
  17. I notice , some of these winter auctions , the prices are moving out of my reach ... I thought around this time , prices are usually down a bit . Anybody have an angle on how prices will be in 2021 ?
  18. Looks like it is between FF and Hulk . Yeah , that's where I am at as well . FF is a very important book but I like the Hulk cover better so probably will go with Hulk . Love all the Stan Lee/Kirby/Ditko stuff .
  19. I am looking to buy mid-grade copy of one of the following : X-Men #1 FF #1 Hulk #1 ASM #1 Wanted to know other people's opinions about which they prefer . I am kind of leaning toward Hulk #1 .
