CGC doesn't need to be at an event for your to get a yellow label, you would just need an official witness and potentially facilitator that can help take care of things.  Which event is this?  You might check out the Signature series subforum to see if any witnesses are already attending.

So I can confirm my question was meant for the noob section lol. That is extremely helpful! It is for the Phoenix one in May and I do see someone has posted for it. I have someone already helping me out with it, so I'll try to see where to go from here. Thanks a lot!

  2. Hello all,

I am looking to get a few comics signed by Jeff Goldblum and thought I'd get some opinions off people. I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death in advance and realize it is somewhat preference based. Unfortunately, CGC will not be at the event and so I cannot get them through signature series. The rest of my collection is through CGC and so I understand if I get the signatures and go through CGC, I would receive a green qualified label. Whenever I have seen discussions for green labels - it always seems like people believe it is pointless. I know there is the option to go for a blue label and take the hit for the grade, but I think I rather the 'true' grade be shown.

My questions is, is it more appealing to people to then get a verified/red or authenticated/yellow through CBCS instead? I have never gone through CBCS and I am not very familiar with them. Either way, thought I'd inquire and see what people think (thumbsu

    Thanks!

I think it would be interesting to see a perfect replica CGC Plastic Holder, label, and sticker (well, not perfect...almost perfect...online store photo quality perfect), and flawless reproduction of the New Mutants 98 cover...the kicker being the pages inside are blank, or at the very least a magazine cut down to size to fit the cover.

Not that I wish any bad experience...just thinking about "what's in the box."  Kind of like a skewed version of Schrödinger's cat...it's both a regular and blank comic book at the same time...as it was printed with disappearing ink and the material vanished during shipping.  You won't know until you crack it open.  Ok, a little way out there. You'll know in a few weeks (hope you keep us posted).

Just got an email from Ebay and so I phoned them and they refunded my order. With the conversion from US to Canadian - I actually gained $2 so that is a win! lol

There was an instant refund, took 2 minutes of my time on the phone. This adventure is all said and done at this point.

Although, they did say even though they have the buyers account under review, the product may still show up? I don't get how that works. I'm assuming this will be my last post about this though. If something shows, I'll be sure to update, but highly unlikely.

  4. Minor update - it has been shipped Haha I also sent a message if tracking is available (Let me know if you think I should be messaging them about anything else that may help me). So they sent me something- more than likely not the comic, but something is on the way!

I guess next update will be when it arrives in Canada which could take a month or so. :)

I would say if you receive anything, make sure you videotape yourself taking receipt of the package and opening it, one continuous shot, with narration and closeups of all the labels and paperwork.  And have at least one witness in front of you.  If possible, try to open it at the post office or in front of a postal worker.

Thanks for the advice :) I always videotape my stuff at home when I open it in the case it doesn't come as described. Would this be good enough? Unfortunately, I wouldnt be able to open it at the post office as it goes to my parents place. I then get to it a few days later when I visit. For my own information - what would the benefit of having the postal worker there? The claim would be good enough through ebay/PayPal wouldnt it?

@Cozmo-One - that is a good read! Sunglasses wouldn't be half bad right? Lol

You're right, in all likelihood eBay will back you in any dispute since you'll probably receive a copy of the March 8th Shanghai Times, if you receive anything at all.  But, why put your money on the line in the first place?  If all indications are that this is a scam, why go through the hassle just for the EXTREMELY small chance that the auction is legit?

You are definitely not wrong! I dont really purchase much from Ebay or comics in general. I dont expect to go down this route again lol I got the few books I wanted, but was going to surprise my buddy with a low grade of this comic as a gift for his bday. I'm not expecting a good ending to the story, but I dont mind $100 being tied up for a little. Its just good to hear that I wont technically lose anything. :) I will definitely update this thread when it comes to it so we can all have a good laugh.

As much as I'm new to comics and only have a few purchases - I was already pretty aware this is more than likely too good to be true. From the sounds of it though, I'd be covered for my expenses. So technically there is no harm in trying is my understanding? Haha

  8. The red flags are the price being extremely low for the book at that grade and the account being brand new with no feedback to back it.

Good to know I am backed for my purchase regardless though. If deals like this are found - why wouldnt anybody have purchased it knowing Ebay would back them? It was a brand new listing, so wasnt up long. Is it of convenience of not having to go through the process of getting money back?

  9. Hello all,

I thought I should make a thread for how stupid I am haha I purchased an extremely sketchy New Mutants 98 9.8 on Ebay for ~$100. So many red flags; new account, extremely low price, from china etc.

I guess my question is - once I don't receive this book as I am expecting - I am still fairly covered by Ebay/Paypal am I not? If for the extremely low chance it does arrive, then that is a win lol

Thanks and I am expecting to get ripped on for this lol

  10. Hello all!

Once again I am very new to comics and dont have a clue how to grade. I'm assuming this will be very low grade if not a 0.5 Haha. Cover is still attached. Complete story, just in rough condition. Its just been stored in a stack of comics on a shelf for the past 30 years. A shame really, but a cool find from my dad's old collection. :) In addition - would it be worth it to CGC at this grade? The more replies the better for me to get an understanding of grading. If more pictures or more information is needed - let me know.

    Thanks in advance!
