  3. 34 4.5 VG + CGC $15,795 DEC 1942; Off-White to White pages. Classic bondage and skull cover, bullet in head panel.
  4. here's one you don't see EVER! 4 6.5 FN + $3,450 JAN 1939; Vol 1. Really scarcer and rarer!
  5. HANGMAN COMICS #3 CGC Grade: 9.0 VF/NM Price: $25,000 SUM 1942; Off white pages. Pennsylvania Copy. One of the first Nazi war cover (by Harry Lucey). Bondage cover with a beheading splash page.
  6. DETECTIVE COMICS #35 CGC Grade: 5.0 VG/FN Price: $58,000 JAN 1940; White pages. The issue is one of Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics, and any copy that's certified as unrestored is hard to come by. This issue's classic cover marked the beginning of Batman's run as the permanent cover star of the title, a streak that is still going! The book is also famous for its splash panel, which has Batman holding a smoking gun -- now that's a Dark Knight!

Consecutive Batman covers begin with this issue. Kane and Fred Guardineer art. CGC notes, "Cover detached."

First appearance of the Batplane, the Monk and Julie Madison. Gardner Fox and Jerry Siegal stories. Fred Guardineer and Joe Shuster art.
  14. DETECTIVE COMICS #29 CGC Grade: 7.0 FN/VF Price: $165,000 JUL 1939; Off-White To White Pages; Bob Kane art; Second Batman cover; First appearance of Dr. Death; Part one of two part story.
  15. DETECTIVE COMICS #18 CGC Grade: 7.5 VF - Price: $16,500 AUG 1938; White pages. Billy Wright Pedigree. The cover is a classic in most anyone's book. Creig Flessel is the artist, Fu Manchu the character. Unrestored copies of this issue are tough to come by. Batman was nine months away and Superman had been in just three comics when this issue hit the stands.
  16. DETECTIVE COMICS #16 CGC Grade: 7.0 FN/VF Price: $11,500 JUN 1938; Billy Wright Pedigree. White pages. This book was on the stands at the same time as Action #1, and has an ad for it inside! Creig Flessel cover art for this issue. One of the nicest unrestored copies in existence.
  17. DETECTIVE COMICS #8 CGC Grade: 7.5 VF - Price: $25,500 OCT 1937; Billy Wright Pedigree with Off-white pages. This shows you how early the Wright collection started: this book is one of the first 250 or so comics ever published, and pre-dated Action #1 by eight months. The classic cover art for this issue is credited to Creig Flessel.
