I think I wrote something about this after the Berk Auction. The Woman in Red is pretty much the first MASKED female Crimefighter. Fatomah was before her as a "Super" hero, although I agree she's not so super. We also had a female "Super hero" in Feature Funnies, she appeared in early 1941.. From Comic Vine A costumed heroine who only appeared in seven issues of Quality's FEATURE COMICS was USA the Spirit of Old Glory. She was a young girl who sat at the feet of Betsy Ross in 1777, excitedly watching the American Flag first come into being. She was given some of the remaining threads from the cloth that went into the very first Old Glory, and she put them for safekeeping into a locket kept around her neck. She ran out to tell her Uncle Sam about what she had watched, but in the rain she grew sick and in Uncle Sam's presence she died. Years later, an old man found the locket in a overgrown Philadelphia cemetary. When he opened the locket, USA, the Spirit of Old Glory came to life again to protect her country. The heroine was a young woman who had no secret identity, even when she donned an army uniform to investigate trouble at an army base or when she joined other ladies who worked in a munitions plant. She wore a brief blue outfit and blue boots. Her cape, the American flag, gave the power of flight, repelled bullets, and fluttered to warn her when the country was in danger. She carried a gold torch that used beams of light and energy to reveal things, clobber the bad guys and in one story melt metel. Her short career in pre-war America was taken up in battling sabetours who meant to destroy her defenses and prey on the people. Her stories were drawn by Maurice Gutwirth. USA was one of the earliest Super Heroines in Comics and certainly the first one to use a flag as part of her costume. Fantomah appeared in Jungle Comics #2 (Feb. 1940), Peggy Allen( the woman in Red) was published in March of 1940 (in Thrilling comics #2) and Hawkgirl was in All Star 5, in July of 1941. Me, too. I have too many vacation pictures to move and I'm "grandfathered" in till Oct. However, I've slowly been putting my stuff on dropbox, my husband pays for that anyway for his business, and if the price does not go down, I'll spend Sept moving the rest. This was a dumb move on their part, if they had just said $99 to begin with, I probably would have grimaced, but done it. The $399 was just insulting.

Detective Comics # 382, Elongated Man story and Robin looks like a Juvenile Delinquent;) Great color, where that creasing is on the right is a small cut or tear that goes through all the pages. Grade is VG + (because of the tear) Bin is $6.00

Detective Comics # 381, I guess Bats, is getting rid of the Boy Wonder again;)? Elongated Man story. Great color, just a crease/scratch on Robin's head and a dirt spot at the top of the back> grade is Fine- (5.5) because of the spot. Bin is $10.00

Detective Comics # 380, A gorgeous red head says that she's Bruce's wife. Wonderful color , and just tiny crease on the front and a scratch, but there is a piece off the outer edge at the bottom on the back, so I'm going to call it a VG- (3.5) Bin is $7.00

Detective Comics #379, Zatara appearance in the Elongated Man story. Nice color and gloss. There is a subscription crease on the back, but I don't see one on the front, there is a scratch on the "V" in Detective. There is other creasing on the front. It's a nice looking VG+ (4.5) bin is $6.00

Detective Comics #378, Batman and and Robin break up...I think there is a song that fits;) Elongated Man story. Nice color, lower gloss, some bends upper left, a bend at the bottom (horizontal) and a line on the back (more of a bend) near the spine, some dirt on the back. Grade is Fine – Bin is $10.00

Detective Comics # 373, The 2nd appearance of Mr. Freeze and the 1st time he's call that. Riddler appearance in the Elongated Man story. Very nice color, but the book is slightly warped (it must have been near water) 2 centerfolds are detached. Grade is Gd/VG but it presents much nicer . Bin is $10.00
