Kudos to Marc (House of Comics) for some nicely-graded, well-shipped treasures at a fair price.

I'm in the midst of reading my G.I. Joe collection #1-78, one issue per night. I'm currently up to #6 and enjoying the hell out of it with the best yet to come. Interesting how the first handful of issues were more self-contained story-wise and "feel" more like a merchandising tie-in. With the teens, I guess, the feel of the book shifted to more of a typical Marvel serialized storytelling style with more emphasis on characterization. In the early issues, you can't always tell who's talking from the word balloon. (Unless the person says "Dag!", then you know it's Stalker.)

The stories are so well put together, it's obvious that Larry Hama is totally into writing this book. Perfect match of writer to title, kinda like Roy Thomas on All-Star Squadron around the same time. Favorite issue so far is #3. ("The Trojan Gambit" - COBRA allows the Joes to capture an inert battle robot with hidden homing devices to reveal the location of the Pit.)

It shocked me when they killed off General Flagg, scarface, Kwinn, and Dr Venom all in ONE issue. I thought they offed the Baroness but she survived. Amazing read for those who havent read the saga...issues 11-19.

Those were a great set of issues, and the run stayed strong up to about 33 or so, too. 42-50 were a good read as well. I recently completed my run from 1-78 and once I get all my stuff unpacked from a recent move, I'm going to read them all, one per night.

I love GI Joe. I still watch the cartoons on DVD. In the comic's heyday, there was no title that made you anticipate the next issue more. Even the kids in my neighborhood who didn't read comics in general, looked forward to the next issue of GI Joe. Who didn't camp out at the comic store for the origin of Snake-Eyes?

I was curious about how rare certain GA books, like Action #1, actually are, so I did some searching on line and a thread in these forums came up in my results. I lurked for a few months and then started posting, just to get in on the fun!

Kudos to arexcrooke for three nice SA Marvels at a fair price! They arrived today and I'm very pleased.

Kudos to nochips for a nice high grade Iron Man #69 and an attractive mid-grade TTA #66. Very nice books, well packed, shipped quickly. Great transaction, thanks!

Well, this is definitely overdue but I wanted to thank every board member who has bought from us in the past year. Off the top of my head, that includes Povertyrow, Garthgantu, Paperheart, Seank, Wormboy, Norrin Radd, Scrooge, AlexH, FFB, Red Hook, JBud, Jimm94, Jefferykli, Buck Biggins, ArexCrooke, JuliusSeizure, Alberto1975, CrowsQB, and definitely some others whom I've either forgotten to list (Sorry!) or who didn't identify themselves when ordering from us or buying at Bay Area shows.

Same here, Marc. Great transaction, and I look forward to buying again. Sadly, I have a cat in the hospital, so I don't know when that will be.

I also want to send props to BassGMan for a lovely B&B #66 I just bought from him. I love this cover and have been jonesing for a nice copy for awhile - very satisfied.

Was there a fire there to destroyed all of his comics?

 

Really can't say. I only went to Englishtown a couple of times in the mid 80s, and for the most part it was for Sportscards, not comics.

 

There was a better comic and mag place at another flea market to the South, though I can't think of the town's name for the life of me. Guy had tons of stuff. I remember buying a NM Spidey # 129 for $5 (right as the hype of the Punisher Mini-Series was getting off the ground).

Peddler's Village, by any chance? My parents took me there once and I got a pretty good stack of books. If memory serves, there was an Action #494 and #495 in there. (I loved #494 and waited forever to find the second part of the story! I guess you could say that Action #495 was my first grail book.)

 

No, I don't think that was the one. I'm pretty sure the one I'm thinking of was located in a flea market somewhere in Freehold township.

Love those early B&Bs, nice pickup! I got a #12 in Boston last month for $60, in about VG/F, maybe a little better. This one looks at least F/VF. Congrats!

As so many others have said, buy what you like. That, and get a house or apartment with lots of storage space. Since I got back into collecting several years ago, my longboxes have multiplied like Tribbles, somewhat to the chagrin of my fiancee...
