  1. Here is my Jackpot 4. I picked this up about 3 years ago from Comic Connect. I don't have Jackpot 5 or 6 and am looking for nice copies to complete the Archie portion of the run.
  2. Another Jackpot I picked up about 8-10 years ago. This one and the 7 I posted earlier were unslabbed when I bought them. I had them both graded at C2E2 last month. I was extremely happy with this grade.
  3. Here are my Jackpot 7 and 9. I picked up 7 at a convention about 10 years ago and 9 was through Comic Connect a few years ago.
  4. I don't know what he's talking about. I've never met this guy in my life.
  5. A few more in the teens. Sorry for going off topic a bit. The 15 I bought at C2E2 last month from Rich at Tomorrow's Treasures.
  6. Here's a few more. Jughead 1 I bought 2 years ago at Wizard World Chicago and it was already graded. Reggie 1 and B&V 1 I've had for a few years and finally graded them at C2E2.
  7. I went to C2E2 last weekend and had some comics graded onsite. It was worth paying a bit more to get them back right away and not have to worry about shipping, insurance, how long it takes to get back, etc. I submitted a few that I already posted raw pictures of and was happy with the results. Gadzukes was right on with the grade he thought for Archie 50. Archie 10 and Annual 1 were higher than I thought they were going to be. If I may, I want to give a shout out to John Robinson and his staff at Graham Crackers Comics. 11 stores in the Chicago land area. I had a great time hanging out with them and their stores are awesome! If you're in the area, stop by, they'll take care of you!
  8. Thanks for the responses. I contacted CGC as well and the response I received was: "it does look like our website is currently experiencing problems, we have alerted our IT Department to look into the issue." It's still down right now so hopefully it will be fixed soon.
  9. This will be my first time going to C2E2 and I wanted to get some comics graded onsite. I went to complete the online submission form and there wasn't an option to grade onsite or even drop off. Is there a limit to how many submissions they take and they close it off? Is it just a website glitch? Any info is appreciated!
  10. Those are some awesome comics asm_collector66!
  11. Thanks! I got really lucky when I met him and if I didn't meet him, I wouldn't have nearly as many comics from that time frame as I do. I love telling the story and am glad I was able to share it with fellow Archie collectors.
  12. Here's my Archie #1. I bought this back in the mid-eighties when I was a teenager. I don't remember if the ad was in the Comic's Buyers Guide or Comic Collectors magazine but there was an ad by someone advertising he had older Archie's for sale. I answered his ad, he sent me a price list of what he had for sale, I bought some Archie series comics that I needed and built a good relationship with him. After a while he asked me if I would be interested in an Archie #1. I said of course and he told me about it and the price. Being a teenager, the seller wanted my Dad's permission to buy such an expensive comic. I convinced my Dad that I had to have this comic and he wrote a letter to the seller saying it was OK. I then proceeded to pay the seller in 12 equal, monthly payments until I paid for the book. I had a paper route and mowed lawns to earn money. I hate raking leaves and even did some of that. I never shoveled snow though. After I submitted the last payment, the comic came in the mail and I was very excited. I hadn't read any Archie comics from that time period before and was surprised to see the different art style, story style, and the other stories that were in there (Cubby and Bumbee). The seller told me this comic was used for the Archie #1 story that was reprinted in the Michael Uslan Best of Archie book that was published in 1980. His name is listed in the acknowledgements so I believe him. He also wrote the letter I posted earlier about the Archie Annual #1. It was a pretty big risk for a 16 year old. There was no internet, no eBay, no way to know if this guy was going to send me the comic after I paid for it. I just believed that I would get it because why would someone cheat a kid? I bought some more comics from him and we are still in contact today. I stayed at his house when I went to the San Diego comic convention in 2003 and he's been to my house a few times. I consider him a good friend and am forever grateful for the comics he's sold me. It's a 3.0 with cover detached and cream to off white pages. I had this graded in 2003 when I went to San Diego. I submitted it at the show and was surprised when it came back with a detached cover. I don't remember it having a detached cover when I submitted it. It either became detached in transit from me to them or it happened when they had it. I'll never know as I didn't take any pictures of it before it was submitted. It probably wouldn't have mattered anyway since as you can see from my previous posts and this one, I'm a horrible picture taker. I did argue with them about what they were going to charge me. I said that it wasn't worth the value they said it was because of the detached cover. They relented and charged me the regular grading fee, whatever it was at that time. I haven't had anything graded since because of that. I've bought graded comics but haven't taken the plunge back in myself yet. This year I'm going to though. I'm going to take some comics to C2E2 and get them graded on site. No mailing, no wait, hopefully it will be a smooth process and I'll get some good grades. (My friend never had a 2-7 that he could sell to me. If anybody has any for sale.....)
  13. I didn't realize the actors had that many followers. That is good news. I really hope that the show brings a new generation of fans to Archie. I've never watched the show so I can't comment on it but I have bought the Riverdale comic and it's decent. In my opinion, the current issues being published aren't a lot quantity wise and not nearly as good as they were in Archie's heyday. I still enjoy going back and rereading comics from the 40's to the 60's. They are classics!
  14. That's good to hear. I'm new to this thread and haven't researched too many prices. I was basing my comment on the shows that I've been to in my area. I ask a lot of dealers if they carry older Archie's and they say hardly anybody wants them or they left them at the store because the don't sell at the shows. I guess I need to start traveling and going to better shows!
  15. Those are great books that have been posted on this page, throughout the whole thread actually. It's fun to see the different covers and how nice these comics really are. I think Archie gets forgotten or unnoticed by a lot of collectors. Which is probably good for those of us who collect them as there is less competition but it would be nice to see people think of Pep 22 in the same way as Action 1 or Detective 27. There are a lot fewer known Pep 22's out there than the other 2 comics. There are 17 universal and 10 restored Pep 22's. There's a total of 70 Action 1's and 68 Detective 27's. That's a pretty big difference. Does anybody here think that because there are fewer Archie collectors and not a lot of new Archie readers (as far as I can tell from their current sales) that the demand/price will eventually drop as people won't want to buy or aren't interested in the golden age comics? Sorry to go off topic but am just curious.
  16. I really enjoy the Archie, Jughead, and B&V annuals. Lots of fun stories and art work. Don't forget the Pals 'n' Gals and Christmas stocking annuals as well. 116 pages of all new stories!
  17. Nice Archie Annual #1 lotemo! This issue was always hard to find for me with the binding intact. I bought a couple before I finally found the one below that is nice enough to keep. In 2003 (I think), I made my first and only trip to San Diego for the con and the Archie bigwigs were there and had a panel discussion. There were some Archie writers and artists there along with Victor Gorelick. He's been at Archie forever and I asked him about the annual buyback. Unfortunately he wasn't much help as he said he didn't know the reason why. A friend of mine is an Archie historian and he wrote a letter to Archie Comics back in the 1990's asking about the buy back of Archie Annual #1 that was advertised in Archie #56. Getting $1.00 for a 25 cent comic was a great profit back in the 50's and an expensive one for Archie. He gave me a copy of the letter from Archie Comics.
  18. Happy New Year everybody. Here is my Archie #8. It is the worst of the 3 I bought together. There is a small binding tear and the cover is attached at the staple but not as securely as I would like. This is actually an upgrade for me as the previous one had a loose cover and centerfold. This is a hard one for me to find in decent shape. I'm not really looking to upgrade this one but if the right copy came along, I could be persuaded.
  19. Thanks for the welcome Archiecomicscollector. I bought this Archie #9 at the same time as the #10. I sent this to CGC as I thought it looked better than the 10. It came back with the restored label. It doesn't really bother me as it's still a pretty nice book and the restoration is pretty light. This was probably graded in 2002 or so. I wonder if the grade would be different if I were to unslab it and send it back in? Does CGC even count a piece of tape on the back cover as restoration anymore?
  20. Here's my Archie #10 I bought on eBay around 1999-2000, along with a couple other early Archie's. The picture quality isn't that great, sorry about that. Fun cover with all the Archie heads.
  21. Thanks Gadzukes, it's nice to be here. I'm not much of a grading expert but I would say the 4.0 is about right. There is a small spine split at the bottom cover but not too bad. The centerfold is nice and tight and the cover is attached at the staples. I usually collect the 3.0 - 6.0 range as they are generally in pretty decent shape and are affordable. I won't turn down a higher graded copy at a good price but I'm not going to break the bank. Here's the back cover and the spine split. On the back cover at the top there is 52.00 written in pencil on it. I wonder if that's how much I bought it for way back when?
