  3. I don't know about the rest of the peanut gallery here, but I just got smoked on all my heritage auctions except for one (luckily the one I wanted most). So I'm here to chew gum, talk smack, and buy some comics. And I'm all out of gum.
  4. Yep, no complaints from me. Although I gave most away over the next decade as gifts to my closest friends and my brother. Kept a copy of each for myself. My point was the comic market was already long established, comic conventions were regular events, and Overstreet had published about a dozen guides when I started collecting. The formula was already there, I just followed it. The early collectors spent an enormous amount of time, effort and money on a hobby of questionable long-term value (at the time). They did it for love of the medium, to make money, to satisfy their hording OCD, and probably many other reasons and combinations of the above. And they did it without the certainty that we have today of the hobby's future. I love that they followed their passion in a niche hobby with many naysayers, and are hopefully being well rewarded as an extra bonus. These first-hand stories (the good, the bad, and the ugly) are fascinating to me and give me a deeper appreciation for our hobby and the people in it.
  5. This is the reason why these Boards need to remain forever untarnished by d-bags, shills and con artists. This is why I have no urge to rush over to IG or other hot platforms. The guys who made and fostered our hobby are here, posting their stories and having conversations on these boards. I thought I was so smart as a teenager when I saved my money working at Blockbuster to buy several copies of Hulk 181, GS Xmen 1, and FF 48 in the early 90's. But this thread is truly OG and shows how that trail was blazed decades earlier by old school visionary collectors. Thanks for sharing guys!
  6. Ah, there's the connection. This Black Knight had all his limbs cut off and lived, thus revealing his Eternal lineage. Monty is closer to Toby than Marvel in spelling, thus establishing the Eternal connection to the Toby Black Knight. I stand corrected. The book is clearly undervalued and should be selling for multiples of the eBay price in a few month. $10k it is. I can't wait for the movie sequel: Black Knight 2: Attack of the Knights who say "Ni!"
  7. I get the retcon to prior Marvel Black Knight incarnations and then future retcon to the Eternals. i.e. Sir Percy of Scandia (Atlas Black Knight) was ancestor to Nathan Garrett (Marvel supervillain Black Knight in Tales to Astonish #52), who was the uncle of Dane Whitman (AKA Marvel movie Black Knight Kit Harrington/John Snow x new Eternal = bonkers price speculation). What I don't get is the Toby Black Knight title is about a guy named Sir Robert, Earl of Denhope who has no connection to any of the previously referenced characters, and does not exist in the same universe / reality. I just re-read the Toby book and Sir Robert is actually just a crusader with no connection to King Arthur or a magic sword. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to sell the book for a few grand to some speculator. Just. mind. blown.
  8. Forgive my ignorance. The book was so poorly written and illustrated that I never actually read it. What is the link between the Toby Black Knight and the Marvel Eternals? Mycomicshop lists the following contents and I don't see any reference to the Eternals. Black Knight (1953 Toby Press) #1 Issue Details Issue #1 Published May 1953 Cover Price 0.10 Pages 36 Editing ? 9. Oh my. I need a copy of that Young romance 15. Back to the topic of random books heating up with no apparent reason, which brings me to this book: Black Knight 1 (Toby). I bought a copy 30 years ago out of a $5 bin and was so disappointed with the low quality artwork and the character having no link or resemblance to the atlas/marvel character, so I tossed it into a box and never gave it a second thought again. Until I saw this on eBay. Other than having the same title (different character) and being published 2 years prior to the Atlas title, why in the world is this book so hot? It was a $50 book you could hardly give away as late as 2017-2018. Will the new Black Knight movie feature Kit Harrington's evil twin from the Toby Multiverse? Someone school me please.
  10. The red hue and spotting around the edge of your copy is awesome. It looks like the light from a red sun, appropriate for bloody battle.
