Well after I put in a claim, the package has been found and has made it’s way to Belgium. Fingers crossed for delivery next week!

So, my last two OA deals with Europe. 1st one shipped from Germany (dhl then via usps) lost! 2nd one shipped by me to Belgium (usps then via fedex) lost! 2 for 2 lost! I have never before had a package lost to or from overseas in 30 years of collecting. What gives? Are others experiencing a breakdown of these systems?

I was fortunate to have met Ed almost 30 years ago when he was a dealer/collector. Kind of like the rest of us I guess. He had a sincere ascerbic wit but was also warm and just friendly so I was drawn to him right away. We only met up and chatted or shared dinner at occasional big shows over the years but looking back I cherish them all. I’m counting my blessings that I was ready to sell some of my collection a couple years ago and so of course called Ed at Heritage. He flew out and we had a great time frantically unframing and packing and regaling each other with stories of deals gone by. We got to have dinner with my wife who even feigned interest in our hobby due to Ed’s charisma in the telling of tales. She and I are both saddened by Ed’s passing but it leaves a hole in my hobby greater than all those treasures that left my house when he left that day for the final time. God speed Ed, you will be missed.

I think there will be two competing forces at play:
1. The constant debasement of money (bullish for prices)
2. Demographic changes (likely not bullish)
My prediction is that one of these forces will be stronger than the other.
You could be right…or not. I feel strongly both ways.

Lots of frustration, patience, resignation, perseverance, and negotiation finally got the seller to move enough to strike a deal between all parties.

Just updated a few prices, and a few are now marked as sold. Thanks!

Boy, that took forever! Finally worked it out financially for all parties the only way possible, so was able to complete this deal and finally acquire a beloved Peanuts strip. Thanks for all your help and advice along the way. It really was eye opening and informative! Here is a link to the piece on my CAF gallery.

I’ve put some pieces up for sale on my CAF gallery. Been using Heritage for the last few years and they have done a wonderful job. Nothing but the highest praise, but I thought I’d dip a toe back into selling a few things myself. So, take a look, I’m just raising money for a short time. Let me know if you think a price is too high, or if you need time payments. If something doesn’t sell, I’ll probably switch it out with something else. Thanks! Dan

Lost mail and undeliverable stuff is sent to a facility near Atlanta and auctioned off regularly. They used to be local. They'd hold them in a hanger at JFK Airport every few months but then they centralized them.
If he has a receipt, he owns the stuff. The original owner's beef would be with the Post Office, but he has already been paid.
He has not been paid.

Were you refunded for the art since it was never received? That's the most important question, otherwise this falls back onto the person you bought it from.
I have been refunded. But the seller, Monty, is a fellow collector and friend and I will help him however I can to recover $ or the art. I am contacting the postoffice and the ebay seller to try and work something out at this point. I am still in shock that the usps will sell your stuff.

This just happened a 2nd time for $2k comic book. Just a signature required delivery that no one was home for. The tracking number on the attempted delivery slip didn’t match anything in their system. I had to call multiple times and finally waited for 20 minutes on hold. The lady said the delivery driver probably didn’t scan the bar code on the slip so it was associated with the package but try going to the post office and they may have it. Sure enough, it was at the post office.
About a month ago, I was able to reach a person at my local branch and they said the last trace of the package was in Bethpaige NY. So I dont think it ended up at my local postoffice. Plus, my delivery guy knows me and a good solid guy.

someone up the string said this seller handles a lot of Peanuts strips. Is that true? Because if it is true, then I call BS on his story. Does anyone else find it coincidental that a seller who deals in strips paid a dollar for an unopened USPS package and out popped a Peanuts strip? I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.
I didn’t see any other peanuts items when I searched his store. 🤷🏻

I had a ~$20k package of CGC books go missing. Spent 3 weeks calling with no luck. Package was shipped registered. My wife went to the local post office, asked if they had it which they promptly gave to her. Had just been sitting at the local PO.
I don’t like that story… for obvious reasons. But good for you nonetheless.

I’m waiting for a show to start and saw I was tagged in this. I’ll do the best I can from my phone.
USPS does sell / auction off unclaimed, misdirected, or “lost” mail. This actually happens more frequently than people think. There is the very real possibility that the seller bought it or outbid others for that unopened package.
As the buyer, if you were reimbursed already I do not see you laying much of a claim. If you have not been reimbursed then that is a problem especially after three months.
To be fair, the Post Office is really on the hook here for such a big screw up. They “lost it” and are paying someone out. The seller may feign interest but he is probably going to made whole either way if he already hasn’t. The guy currently selling it, didn’t “steal” it if he did indeed purchase the unclaimed package.
it’s really not an eBay issue. It’s a post office issue. As long as everyone is made whole, I don’t see a viable path of getting this artwork to you unless you want to reach out to the seller and buy it directly from him. Offer the price you paid to the original seller and use the money that should have been refunded to you.
I’ll take a look a little more tomorrow.
Literally out now… try to have a Happy New Year and will write more tomorrow.
Should I change the title to missing art alert? I dont want to misrepresent. It seems very shady that the package would be sold by usps while they have an open search for it. I got an email yesterday frm them saying they are still looking for the package, please be patient.

Ebay is very hard to contact.

Contact ebay asap I would think tell them this is stolen merchandise. That seller has a ton of
Peanuts art. I would imagine this was either a consignment or someone sold it to them.He says he boight it legally from usps as unclaimed lost mail.

Did you contact the original seller? Not sure how long ago it went missing, but I would absolutely let the seller know, as well as USPS (when they open on 1/2 I guess).
Yes. Contacted sellers. Ebay and the friend who sold it to me. Its been missing for almost three months but they keep sending messages that they are still looking.

I purchased this Peanuts strip from a fellow collector. USPS said it went missing and they have been searching. Was stuck in NY. Now it shows up in FL on ebay. Any suggestions? I contacted the seller just now but haven’t heard back yet.

Great news, I won’t be looking for a divorce attorney
Peanuts all closed at decent prices except for the Sally daily which I thought was slightly low but not crazy low
Sally daily had a great gag, but sadly was still a Sally daily… thought it went high.

Just a little tape stuck to one corner of the art. The framer held the backing board in place by hammering nails in it and then bending them over, most bizarre thing I have ever seen.
I have seen everything…including that.

You missed the plastic bag with a complete set of Freakies figures
Yeah, the framing is odd, but at least it looks like they kept it out of the sun. 👍🏻
