  1. I collected from the 70's through the 90's. Now I'm digging through to find out what I have... I always said it would be a neat thing to be able to hand my comics down to my kids but I've grown detached from them to such a degree that I barely remember buying them, or in many cases, ever reading them. The sad part about seriously collecting comics is the idea that they become less valuable if you ever open them and actually read the stories or look at the artwork. The great irony is that the better the story or art, the less likely it is that they will ever be cracked open, lest they lose their luster. I'm confident that our society has pristine copies of the landmark books nowadays, so I'm not so sure I care if I let mine go. Of course, I'd like to get top dollar for the ones I have, so I will probably have them graded and locked away in their transparent cages. Hypocritical, I know, but a buck is a buck. Do I dare thumb through each of my favorites one last time or will it drop me to NM from GEM and cost me triple digits?
