So what do these books with the original cover removed and one of these new covers worth? Any more then a coverless? I would assume they would use different staples too?

Not sure there would be any of the spine left. It seems like there is a lot of glue. You might get it into a .5 blue as i think you would lose your whole spine and have a three piece book. Not worth it imo.

I think the pool to look at is pretty small. a couple of .5 restoreds went for around/ over 15k in the last year or so

Um there are several in various auctions.... CL CC, etc

They have come down recently tho. Much like everything else it depends on what was done to the book and the price range. I have seen a few in the 20K+ range that I felt went cheaper then I would have expected. There are a bunch up now so we will see some new price points on the low end.

I think it also depends on where people cap the price. Some will only be able to do a 10K, 20K or 30K book so the cost factors in greatly to the sale price IMO.

Well the cover paper it stronger and stands up better. I talked to vinny about this book, it was the top of the pile and the exposed part was the only brittle part. So i still say the cover would be perfect for leafcasting onto a complete interior.

Why is this book always missing the centerfold. I assume it is a double page spread but more then any other issue it seems to always be incomplete.

yup. I thought the $1200 was already strong but someone will pay more since it's wrapped in shiny hard plastic

I thought the 1200 price was strong as well. Hard to say what it will hit but I doubt 2500. If the cover was fully intact that may be different or if two people both happen to need it, but it would need a decent about of resto to marry that to a book. Colors were good tho and the paper is nice.

Time will tell I guess but parts are getting expensive these days.

Honestly I agree with all points and I wonder if the price is being pushed, honestly I thought it would stay under 10K with a restored incomplete book, but it sure doesn't look that way sitting at 8200 with 10 days left....

Tough to accept to re-restore a book if you can find the correct back cover even. The back cover it has is VERY wrong not just a department number.

10K was my top on the 29. The 31 i thought was to high for the grade. The 35 was the best. I really thought the 35 would sell with nothing left on the table. Was wrong. Think a swamp man bought that book?

 

But that book could have issues not seen. It just really worried me. I know some of the pre hero books popped back up rather quickly and I wonder if that is because people didn't like what they got.

 

I won the 37 with an angry bid, so we will see how it comes I guess.

Honestly i think the seller did a very poor job. I would have gone after a few of those books but i am not willing to drop 10k+ on a book with those poor pictures. I suspect that impacted the prices. I also think there could be a lot more defects that were not visable which is common of low grade books like that.

anything missing will be listed as incomplete, depending on how small a piece is, it might not drop down to a .5. The other option is go green label of course. I had a book missing a small coupon like 1x3 off the last non story page and it was still listed as incomplete. Book was nice otherwise I think it may have been a 2.0 or 1.5/1.8.

Yes there are plenty of Hulk 181 qualified because of the cut stamp or that wrap being married, these are GREEN labels.

Please forgive me if this has been discussed in this thread before, but how do you guys value the books you have married, or when buying copies that have had something married to them? Do you usually knock a % off the guide price of the book's condition?

 

Just curious what everybody else's mentality is regarding pricing a married book.

 

 

My mentality is to knock a percentage off – I am not sure how CGC treats the various cases (especially with Golden Age where it is more common), as there are a good number of Hulk #181 with married wraps (because of the value stamp) that have been graded as "Qualified". If they consider it restoration when marrying a cover (which in fact it is) maybe they should all grade as restored.

 

I have sent my own Hulk #181 to grade and I am curious to see how it will be, as I suspect the stamp page is married, so it falls in that case.

If a book has a married part of any sort but no other restoration it will be Qualified.

If it has other restoration it will be purple with the married pieces mentioned in the notes on the label.

If it isn't caught it will be blue

The book has been around a lot and was on the boards recently I believe it sold here for 1200-1500.

The price was very strong, but for 2500 what you really want is the front cover and that was mostly there, mostly.

That copy had real nice eye appeal for the grade...... and when the same money will only get you a raggedy AF15....These restored Bat 1's will only start looking better. GOD BLESS...

$12k/13k will get you a nice looking 3.5/4.5 copy and a restored 6.0/7.0

If you know someone that has restored 3.5/4.5 copy for 12K please let me know.

I think the later estimates of near double that are much closer to the mark.

Movies, cartoon shows /movies etc are HELPING keeping things relevant for the NEXt generation all these kids in Batman shirts and backpacks aren't wearing them because of the comics per say it helps them get into the books in many cases Bats 1 is a great book IMO mainly because of the Joker.....yes its a #1 and has one of the coolest covers around but its not the first appearance of Batman nor Robin (the 2 iconic heroes---which usually fuel sales) what Wayne-Tec was getting at I think was the new suicide squad movie and the fact that Jared Leto is on board to play the Joker (which I guess will be some sort of arkham asylum version) further putting the joker into the mainstream consciousness which will fuel more attention to the book etc you think Captain America #1 is where it was compared to 5 years ago without the movies success?

I bet if you asked 100 random comic fans what the firs appearance of the Joker was they wouldn't know. I think many people forget that it's the first Joker and first Catwoman, to me that isn't the first think people think of when they think of a Bats 1.

The movie hype may help a random high end sale but I doubt it is going to impact a 1.0 or .5 sale at all. When the 1989 Batman movie hit there was an upswing in high end price because non collectors wanted the bat books, that isn't going to happen with low end copies. I think overall the movies have little to no impact on value.
