  1. Don’t wanna divert the thread direction, but I’ve always wondered the same about this one . . .
  2. $264k for a 9.0 FF1 yesterday. That’s pretty amazing to me
  3. You might be right. This might be the high point, after which we fall back to earth. Which makes buying decisions really hard right now
  4. There’s a bunch of Church westerns in this weeks heritage weekly. They haven’t gotten much attention so far
  5. I’m watching the Red Raven creep up there. (Not my book). All will be told shortly
  6. This will be an exciting finish for them. Even the Bat 1 .5 is getting close to $40k. So yes, Bat 1 looks hot right now. And I’m pretty sure the bidding is not yet done.
  7. Heritage starts closing tomorrow, and although prices stayed static for about a week, there’s movement afoot . . . the FF5 just shot up about $20k today, and the amazing Spider-Man jumped $25k today. The FF1s have had no recent movement. the golden age stuff hasn’t moved
  8. I yield the floor to you on the subject, but here is a slightly redacted string of emails between me and CGC, where they say otherwise. I like their view, but confess I have concerns that line up with you. this string started when I asked about foxing
  9. CGC has told me that foxing stops once the book is encapsulated. I guess no such luck for rust?
  10. I always get the terminology mixed up, but I think wrap is 4 pages, and leaf is only 2.
  11. I didn’t know all the big prerobins were up. I’d seen one, saw it was trimmed, and turned away. I think those are low prices, even for trimmed
  12. Heritage lists 6 previous sales of both. 2 years ago The Last Sunday was selling for $5700, but the most recent sale was $28k! The other one has sold in a range anywhere from $3700 to $9700.
  13. The jump was there before I posted. It’s WHY I posted. in other words, it was like that when I got here. but good luck just the same
  14. Q: Know how many lawyers it takes to shingle a roof? A: Depends on how thin you slice em (hey I’m a lawyer too so I can say it)
  15. I remember the Showcase 8. I thought seriously about getting it. IIRC, it had what looked like a subscription crease down the center, but it wasn't a subscription crease. I finally decided the kid who originally purchased it rode his bike home from the drugstore with the book folded up in his back pocket
  16. This post may get removed for talking about the competition, but truly I mean no disrespect to CGC. It has been my observation that the value of similar books can vary widely depending on whose holder it’s in. Case in point in the current Heritage auction: 2 books which look very similar, IMHO, are sitting at 2 different prices: the book in the CGC holder has been bid up to exactly double that of a similar book sitting in a competitors holder. Be interesting to see the final tally. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/fantastic-four-annual-1-marvel-1963-cgc-nm-96-off-white-pages/a/7242-91039.s V. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/fantastic-four-annual-1-marvel-1963-cbcs-nm-96-white-pages/a/7242-92137.s
  17. The books I follow in the current Heritage auction are giving off a mixed message. With still 7 days to go, the 5.0 Bat 1 is at $240k and the 3.0 is at $120k. Perhaps most stunning of all is the FF 1 9.0 at $220k. The books brought aggressive bids the first week, and then just seemed to hit a lull. I can feel the bidders eyeing each other, fingers poised over the bid button. Although there are occasional test bids floated here and there, activity seems to have been brought to a standstill as the finish line nears. I sense there will be even more pent up aggression that will come in the final moments The answer to the query in this topic has changed. I never contemplated the level of competition we are seeing on these books. All books, really. This may not be the best time to Invest In Comics. Not because the hobby is about to fall off the cliff. But because the prices are crazytown at the moment. wish I had a crystal ball
  18. These are pivotal works, and I truly love me some Calvin and Hobbes, but seriously?
  19. I’ve made two offers. The first was for a page 5 of Action 1. It had only just sold a year before, so I offered a respectful bump(on top of the vig ya gotta pay heritage), and got told the owner wouldn’t sell at any price. End of story. The second offer, made 2 years after its initial Heritage sale, was more successful and netted me a keeper. It’s a worthwhile try, looking RECENT sales over, I think. If you look at books more than 2 years removed from the original Heritage sale, chances are the “buy it now” prices have become laughably low, and the original buyer probably doesn’t even have the book anymore
