first of all amazing book regardless of the grade also I would tape back the missing pages if you can do that the book is not even that bad the cover still looks really nice maybe if you restore it it can help but I would say if you can tape the pages this is a 4.5 book. without the pages 3.0
I believe taping back the pages would be considered restoration and I want to make sure it gets a blue label so I wouldn't want to do that.

Yep, that’s minor. No worries.
Thanks! so your saying books with minimal rust like this can be a 4.0 but if you have a lot of rust then the best is like a 3 right?

Rust on staples is no problem in the VG range, unless it's really corroded with transfer to the pages. The ink tracings are actually fairly subtle. I'd think it's right on the edge of 3.5/4.0 and pretty nice overall... I'll say it squeaks out the 4.0 unless the rust or ink are worse in hand.
I will upload a picture of the rust so you can tell me what you think

Hey guys the book has rust on the staples so it can't be higher than a 3... anyway but if you look at the face on the book it appears someone traced it? ill upload a picture of a book I have with no tracing vs the traced book. I'm not sure how tracing with a pen or marker affects a grade so if you can let me know that would be great thank you.

Here she is! Overall very nice looking book. Only concern is that the staples appear to have a small amount of rust on the staples. I know if staples have rust highest a book can get is a 3.0 but is this enough rust to do that to this book? It would be a shame since its such a nice copy. Anyway thanks in advance!

I love old books like this! Lots of character, well read and well loved! (Most all of my books from the 50's and 60's are in this condition) I'd say it's a 1.5 maybe a 1.8. It's main issues are the 2+ inch spine splits at the top and bottom. Interestingly enough books with replaced staples can grade up to 3.0 and even higher depending on what the rest of the book looks like. The top staple looks to be original to me, but yes it appears to be in very good shape. The bottom staple looks like there may have been a botched attempt to replace it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! so even if it does have a replaced staple that does not mean it would get a restored grade?

you should post some pics in the PGM book section of the forum and see what others say but if your sure about the shiny (non vintage staples replacement) your going to get a 1.0 (or whatever grade) restored label book. if your looking to sell the book since it will get the PLOD you might be interested depending on how severe or what can be done and restore it further if your about the higher #
Ok ill do that. Sorry but what is the PGM book section? And what does PGM stand for?

Hey guys forgive me as I am rather new to collecting but I recently got a silver age book that I believe has been restapled as the staples look perfect and the book is probably only a 1.0 so it doesn't line up. That and the fact that the cover is only hanging on by the staples leads me to believe the cover was detached and someone down the line restapled it back on.. Any way if a book has been restapled with new staples not vintage staples what is the max grade it can receive? As far as I have heard it doesn't count as restoration. Thanks.

in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

I completely agree with what your saying something seems off. The cover does have some sort of gloss to looks like. As well the book appears ti have rust migration on the pages or some staining from rusted staples but yet the staples are not rusted? It seems very weird...
