  1. 8.5 OFF-WHITE TO WHITE Comic Description: Detective Comics 457 3/76 D.C. Comics Grader Notes: small crease right center of front cover breaks color spine stress lines breaks color
  2. Not a defect. It's distributors ink. Pretty common on newsstand comics back in the day.
  3. Thing is some people collect comics for their covers and not the art/story inside. That is what makes certain books more valuable than they otherwise would be.
  4. I doubt they will. Roughly 1,000 copies were printed.
  5. The one book that won't drop much, if any, will be the Alex Ross Detective #27 homage cover. I've heard/read there were 1,000 or fewer copies printed. This was in an interview with him.
  6. If it were VHS tapes I could believe it. Some of those movies on old tapes were never transferred to DVD.
  7. I've read he's returning to reboot/revamp the X-Men franchise and make them interesting again. https://www.newsarama.com/44669-house-of-x-and-powers-of-x-first-look-and-story-details.html
  8. Their regular bags and boards aren't bad by any means. Though I wish they would use the resealable bags more often (they have done this before); most times they send the books in the regular flap bags that either need to be folded or taped. I've been ordering from them for 3 years now.
  9. The black spot on the A appears to be black ink. Looks to be exactly the same black color as the rest of the cover. Could it have been printed that way?
  10. Will update with better pictures once in hand.
  11. Thanks. The seller is a member here (hasn’t given his username) but swears this has great color and minor color breaking creases; mostly on the corners as easily seen. He would be surprised if it did not grade 9.x after pressing. With a 14 day return policy I will wait until it comes in to make a decision. I may just keep it and buy locally going forward.
  12. Just bought this off eBay for $80 shipped and was wondering if I made a decent deal. The seller claimed this should be around an 8.5-9.2 as is. It looks great except for two corner creases (small/minor color breaking). Pardon the pictures as I am posting what was included in the auction post. Would you think with or without a press the book could be an 8.5-9.2?
  13. I agree with you. There are obvious similarities with subtle differences.
  14. Thoughts/opinions on what the grade for this would be?
  15. Perhaps the other cover hasn't arrived yet from the printer? I only grabbed the homage one.
  16. I have them both. Great covers and they actually had great interiors too!
  17. Have to agree. I was disappointed in the entire thing. Detective Comics #1,000 should have been 68 pages of a new major storyline for the foreseeable future and then a few small pages of additional stories. Instead, we got 99% junk. I'll still CGC my Alex Ross cover and maybe the Steve Rude one, but only because I love the art.
  18. As a collector, I'd be pretty irked if I bought a modern age comic graded at 8.5 and it had a spine split of any kind. An 8.5 should have minimal wear and tear (I consider a spine split to be pretty significant damage). Granted if it is slabbed the collector may not even notice it. But is there a history of CGC grading books above a 5.5 with a spine split?
  19. I can't answer that from a CGC perspective. But I personally wouldn't grade it any higher than a 4.5 due to the spine split, and we haven't been shown the full book.
  20. Definitely a troll. I mean the person can't even include a high resolution image!
