  1. Ok, so I’ve read several previous threads on how spine issues can effect a book’s grade. However, some of the explanations lack pictures to illustrate certain points. Here is a copy of Lobo’s Back. It is in excellent shape, except for the spine cracking from being read. For this Modern era book, assuming everything else is perfect, how would this book be graded? Are there allowances made for this type of wear? Thank you in advance for your input.
  2. Ok, so I’ve read several previous threads on how spine issues can effect a book’s grade. However, some of the explanations lack pictures to illustrate certain points. Here is a copy of Lobo’s Back. It is in excellent shape, except for the spine cracking from being read (and a bad top corner). For this Modern era book, assuming everything else is perfect, would this book be graded at a 9.0 - 9.2 OR are there some allowances made for this type of wear? Thank you in advance for your input.
  3. Here’s a copy of my Powerman and Iron Fist #50 - This series was the first Powerman series and the 50th issue saw him team up with Iron Fist and the series title was changed to include both characters. I picked up this copy at the same antique store as my Marvel Spotlight book. I’d appreciate it if you could take the time to give it a grade. Thank you!
  4. Yes, I am planning on getting it pressed / cleaned. I would be super happy if it scored a 5.5. I was thinking maybe a 4.5. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
  5. Here are photos of my Marvel Spotlight #5 featuring the 1st appearance of Ghost Rider that I picked up for $2.00 at an antique store several years ago . It’s pretty rough, but I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on a grade. I noticed it has four staples in it and am wondering if they were added at some point after publishing. Despite the condition, I’m hoping it’s the most valuable book in my collection.
  6. The book is sentimental to me so I probably wouldn’t sell, BUT if pressed, it seems like it would grade high and maybe I’d come out ahead $26+12=$38’ish cost to do (plus shipping) vs. 9.6 at $48 or even 9.8 at $104?
  7. I’ve owned this book since new and can tell you that nothing has been done to it. The lighting in the bedroom is not the best, maybe that’s what you’re seeing?
  8. I’d like to get it graded, so if I pressed it, I’d only be into it for another $12 which would be the cost of a higher graded copy maybe.
  9. I would like to display / preserve it AND have a higher graded book to pass on to my son. Ultimately, i want to know if pressing it will help to improve the grade. I feel like the “wrinkles” were created during manufacturing or packaging.
  10. Here is my copy of Punisher War Journal #1. I believe it is in excellent condition, but there are a few creases on the back cover. Are these bad enough to down grade the book and /or will a pressing be worth it to gain the maximum grade? Any input is greatly appreciated!
  11. Ok, here is a copy of my Ghost Rider #1, second series from May 1990. My favorite character and one of my first books. Unfortunately, it has some flaws which may prevent me from getting it professionally graded. What do you think about a grade? Next week I’ll try to post an older, more challenging book. Thanks again!
  12. Ok, I’ve taken several pictures and posted them below. Thanks again for your input.
  13. Hi All, I’ve read the posting guidelines and hope I understand more about how this forum works. I apologize in advance if I make an error and appreciate any feedback you all can provide. Here is my copy of Spider-man #17 from 1991. I purchased it new and am now going through my books for the first time in 15 years or so. I am considering having it graded (along with several other books from my collection) to display, if it scores high enough. Please refer to the enclosed pictures of the entire book and let me know your thoughts. Thank you!
  14. Thanks for everyone’s input. I guess I misunderstood the grading process and thought certain types of problems carried certain deduction points which cumulatively result in the final grade. Obviously there’s a number of different things that go into grading. Lesson learned. I will take everyone’s advice and post full pictures of single books and try to learn from the replies and previous thread suggestions.
  15. Cover Blemishes: First shows some type of blemish on my X-men 300. Last two show finger prints on my 2nd print of Ghost Rider 15. What do these types of problems do to the grade of a book?
  16. Hi All, again trying to educate myself. This book is flawless, except for a worn / cracked spine. What does this do to a grade? It seems most of my quality issues are a result of not using a large enough backer board when I stored my books away so many years ago 🙄
  17. Ok, so I have a NM copy of a promotional flyer for the 1st Lobo limited series. Is this worth anything or is it like the small posters that were included in some of the 90’s era comics like the different Midnight Sons issues?
  18. Here is a copy of my Lobo 1. I took pics of the only flaws I could find. Are these enough to drop its grade to a 9.6 or even 9.4?
  19. Thank you for the input. It’s helpful to know the potential grade of the book as it stands now. I didn’t even realize there was a tear in the bottom, but when I looked, sure enough it is there. Ok, so to educate me, if there was no tear or any funny business on the bottom, just the bad corner, what would the book grade, a 9.6? / what is the deduction for a bad corner?
  20. Yes the top corner of the spine is dinged badly enough to create a small tear, maybe 1/8”. Question is, if this was the only flaw, what would grade be?
  21. Hi All, New to this forum and hoping to pick up some basic grading knowledge. I have a copy of Punisher 10 that is sentimental to me. It’s in very good shape but has a scuffed corner and some wrinkles on the back near the bottom. I am hoping that maybe the wrinkles can be pressed out, but assume there is nothing to be done about the corner. Question is, what does this corner automatically drop the grade down too assuming the wrinkles can be pressed out and everything else is good? Thanks for your help.
