  1. WOW 1st cover 7.0 2nd cover 9.2 = Overall Grade 9.2

That's usually how they do it, overall grade is the greater of the 2 cover grades. The only other case I've seen was a book with light tan to off-white pages, which they knocked the overall grade down from the 9.6 that the inner cover was graded to an 8.5.

  2.

(thumbs u very, very nice X-Men 193 Double Cover great find. :headbang: :headbang:

hm Reason I ask where you are finding them is over the last few years I have bought thousands of cheap modern age Amazing Spider-Man comics to resale in my ebay store and some issues I have bought more than 70 copies each of and I have never found a single Amazing Spider-Man Double cover in all those comics and I have checked every single one :(

:) I have found a few myself but very few, not too long ago I was going through some old lots I bought and I found a nice X-Factor #10. :cloud9:

hm I am just wonder how rare it is for a comic to get a Double Cover and judging by all the ASM's I have went through over the last few years they must be very rare. (shrug)

Well, in my case, he deals in tens of thousands of books per year, and we're averaging around 3 double covers found per year. So they are really a needle in a haystack! But we don't check every single book for a double cover, only the ones that feel a little different get checked. I don't want to think about the ones we've sold off without knowing. :pullhair:

  3. :applause: Nice one! (thumbs u

:baiting: How do you keep finding them do you have a Warehouse full of comics? :gossip:

If I told you, I'd have to kill ya! :baiting:

Nah, I'll spill the beans. My brother does a large amount of buying and selling on eBay, and checks many of the books he buys to see if they have double covers, variant covers, etc. Then he sells them to me, or in this case, gives it to me for an early Christmas gift! He's handled so many comics, than he can usually feel the extra weight of the double cover, or Jewelers insert, etc, so he can check it! I used to be the bulk grader for him, so most of my early ones I found for myself in his stock. Either myself or he has found every book I've posted in this thread! None were bought as double covers. If you have never found one yourself, I can't really describe the thrill!

  4. Can I get some pricing guidance on this book?? The 2x covers are just so rare, its hard to figure out a fair price before I send 'em out into the market. Thanks boardies!!

Phantom Stranger #29 (1974). Double cover: outer cover 9.0/9.2; inner cover 9.4/(9.6?). White pages.

I'd say, that if you think the 9.6 is attainable, then slab it! Only a few titles have the rabid fan base for double cover prices to reach the stratosphere unslabbed, like Amazing Spider-Man. So your value tends to be found in that inner cover grade, which would be worth $100+ in CGC 9.6. Don't know about the 9.4 though, as none have sold according to GPAnalysis. Hope this helps, and other opinions are welcome!

  5. Reading through my Wolverine run, I found this:

Very cool when you find one in your own collection and you didn't know you had it. :applause:

Thanks! I've got an USM 1-current, ASM 130-current, X-Men 94-current and DD 10-current still to read... :wishluck: :wishluck:

  6. Heh, I've got one of those too. There's at least 4 copies of these with double covers out there. Yours looks nicer than mine though. Mine is probably 7.5-8.0

Mine's only an 8.0 or 8.5, wish it were higher! Just discovered it tonight in a junk lot I was going to sell on eBay. Saw Byrne's signature on the cover, and checked inside to try to find a year of issue! Lo and behold, 2 covers! Glad I didn't dump it in with the rest of the books!

  7. Here is the ASM 252. You can't see the water damage that clearly in the slab, but maybe that's a good thing . Regardless, the stain left by the water damage is pretty visible on the left hand side and a little bit on the right. One of those instances when a second cover doesn't really do squat for the inner cover.

We can see both covers!! Cool!

  8. Here's a list of what's coming back from CGC. I'll see if I can't throw up some scans when they arrive:

Daredevil 179 Double Cover Modern 9.4 WHITE

Detective Comics 605 Double Cover Modern 9.2 WHITE

Amazing Spider-Man 161 Double Cover Universal 6.0 WHITE

Amazing Spider-Man 206 Double Cover Modern 8.5 WHITE

    Amazing Spider-Man 252 Double Cover Modern 2.5 OFF-WHITE

Amazing Spider-Man 253 Double Cover Modern 8.5 WHITE

Amazing Spider-Man 270 Double Cover Modern 9.4 WHITE

Amazing Spider-Man 293 Double Cover Modern 9.6 WHITE

    Thor 277 Triple Cover Modern 7.0 OFF-WHITE

Thor 350 Double Cover Modern 9.2 WHITE

Overall, this was an okay submission. Based on my previous experience in submitting double covers, I was expecting some higher grades. The Daredevil 179, Detective 605, ASM 270, and Thor 350 I expected to be 9.6's. I am much more disappointed by the grades for the ASM 206 and 253. I thought that they would come back at least in the 9.2s. :P

Do you think they're getting stricter on them these days? Seems like they are, with the PQ downgrade we've seen, and now yours.
