I got to meet Steranko at Heroes Con last year, and after I introduced him to my now fiancée, he made sure to emphasize that I should never let her go.  I 1000% agreed, and one daughter later, we're doing pretty darn good.

Top 3 all time con interaction for me.

I took my son to meet Jim 2 years ago in New Hampshire. He was really fantastic to interact with,  if only for a few minutes.

Charming, sharp, well dressed and courtesy.

Man, I'm exited to revisit that tale. I'm going to practice my writing style for a few posts before I get into that one, it'll be a fun read!

Looking forward to hearing about the collection!

I've read about people being about to tell which packs had the holograms. It's probably why I never pulled a hologram from a pack of cards at my local comic shop! Although, truthfully my parents didn't buy me many packs

My "I should have bought" story -

I'm 15 and moving with my Dad from NM to Washington DC. It's a few days trip and somewhere along the road we stop for the night. There's a comic book store in this town and in it is an Amazing Spider-Man 1. $100. I have $100 which I'd been saving for my own TV. It was a small black and white also with a radio. I pass on the book because the TV meant more to me at the time. Barely. With it I discovered late nights and Johnny Carson and David Letterman. The TV is, of course, long gone. I never had a chance at a Spidey 1 again.

My somewhat comparable story involved a JIM83 back in 2000 or so.

I was 17 or 18 and my friends and I took a train to NYC to go to a comic show.  I had gone with the specific intent to buy Hulk 181... I walked the booths and finally found a 181. The guy offered it to me for $400 which was way more than I had at the time.

The guy in the booth next to us was listening in (they were obviously buddies) and he walked over with a beautiful JIM83 and said, "$400 for that??? I'd sell you this for $450".

Again, I was 18, working at Kmart for $5.45 an hour, so $450 mine as well have been $40k... But I did walk out with Hulk 181 for $260, which I still have today.

  4. I love stories like this! I also love that you had the wherewithal to write them and get those comics. So many of those stories become cautionary tales about "the time I almost bought Hulk 1 and FF1 for $75".

I would say you made good on your investment!  FF1 and Hulk 1 are my two favorite SA books. Kirby drawing monsters. And so cool that you picked them both up.

I have them both,  though mine are restored. I do want to upgrade my Hulk 1 someday,  though that's going to be an expensive proposition.
