  1. So, basically, you think he is not a true fan because he is 1) a dealer, 2) has realistic expectation about the long term value of the R&M comics, and 3) sells R&M comics. What does any of that have to do with him being a fan of the show or not? And now, because these boards didn't notice the book heating up, of which there are a ton of books heating up these boards don't ever recognize, so ... You've been around long enough to know books jump up in price all the time for flimsier reasons than having a hit show and a cult following. Not sure why you picked this particular book to make some sort of statement about. Also not sure why you have to keep making feeble attempts at knocking a property which clearly, to anyone who is objectively looking at this, has heat. And we've seen some indication that select auctions have been shilled, but no proof this is "ALL ACROSS THE BOARD" contrary to what you and Jaydog keep stating. Jaydog has a tendency to yell shill, shill, shill every time he sees a book move that he doesn't like. A few years ago, it was Star Wars (1977) #1, yet here we are a few years later and that book still fetches decent prices. I guess that was a long term conspiracy that is still being exploited.
  2. Different age. We didn't have comic "keys" being driven up in price by movies or variant issues fetching thousands of dollars within months of being available back then either. There are a lot of collectors with a lot of money to burn these days.
  3. Well, I got you both to agree on something. Scam was the incorrect word for me to use. Many times those speculation sites use false information. If I use the word "lie" would that be better?
  4. Every book that gets attention on a "speculator" site is manipulated. I remember pointing out something similar on these boards for Monstress. The book came out and sold for cover price or less until it was featured on one of those sites. Then the prices took off. You pretty much are going to have to ignore everyone who posts in this thread since just about all of 'em are trying to make money off of scams.
  5. What about Despicable Me 3 and The Fate of the Furious?
  6. Strange as it may be, this movie could pass Spider-Man: Homecoming domestically.
  7. I didn't bother watching the premiere tonight. I have no interest in getting into yet another subscription service to watch television shows and movies.
  8. People here will complain, but eBay is still the best place to sell your book. You will get more eyes and if priced properly, the book will sell. There are competitors, but your books can sit and sit and sit, even if priced reasonably.
  9. Someday though, these speculators will wake up and realize those boxes of hot books are not worth anywhere near the price they paid for them. On a positive note, there are a lot of people with a lot of real money in this hobby. So, I doubt we'll see the hobby go away in my lifetime. I have no doubt it will keep getting more expensive for the key collectors though.
  10. The publishers are reaping what the sowed. They decided printing ever increasingly difficult to afford variants is more important than keeping the people who collect runs happy. We all know people (some even participating in this thread) who gave up trying to keep a collection whole. They shouldn't be surprised there are not many run collectors left. And hence, they lost their loyal customers. Key collecting is just the last of the collectors trying to hold onto something they once cherished. That too will fade in time.
  11. Iron Boy, Iron Boy, Does whatever Iron Man can Talks to his A.I., With a flip of the wrist brings up a hologram Look Out! Here comes the Iron Boy. Is he strong? Listen bud, He's got a power suit. Can he swing from a thread Sure but why when he has new threads Hey, there There goes Iron Boy. In the chill of night At the scene of a crime Like a streak of light He arrives just in time. Iron Boy, Iron BoyFriendly neighborhood Iron Boy Wealth and fame He's embraced A new power suit is his reward. To him, life is a great big bang up Wherever there's Iron Man You'll find the Iron Boy.
  12. Iron Boy was okay. Just not sure why he was wearing Spider-Man's costume.
  13. So, if we fire all the current editors and creators at Marvel/DC and hire back only living editors and creators from the 60s and 70s, go back to each publisher just having 30-40 titles max, eliminate all but the top 10 comic publishers, drop the price on comic books, find a way to make old fashioned newsprint again even though it is more expensive than the current paper used, force retailers to carry comics despite them being money losing items, outlaw video games, go back to just 10 channels on television, and shutdown the Internet, we just might have a chance to get kids interested again. I'm guessing none of these things is going to happen.
  14. I wrote a blog a few days back which shows the dire condition Marvel (and the industry) is in right now by examining Marvel's tell selling ongoing title for the past 3 years, Star Wars: http://swcomiccollector.blogspot.com/2017/09/star-wars-continues-to-outshine-in.html In a nutshell, Star Wars is selling roughly half of what it sold in 2015, and it is still Marvel's top selling ongoing title. That isn't good when you consider the average estimated initial sales is just over 72,000 this year. A mere 72,000 units sold is all it takes to be Marvel's top selling ongoing title! Now, this may change with Marvel's Legacy event.
  15. I know because I have kids. They are not interested and I'm not just talking about mine.
  16. Except most kids won't be interested even if you gave them the comics for free. Sounds like another money losing venture for the publishers to pursue though. Rather than worry about kids who are not going to buy these things, I suggest Marvel and DC just concentrate on creating good comic books. Not collectibles (i.e. variants), which seems to be their bread and butter right now. If they made good comics, everyone, adults and children, would have something to look forward to.
  17. That is the biggest gripe I have with the MU right. Just about every hero and villain is influenced by Tony Stark's technology; so much so that some of the characters are not the characters from the comic. This wasn't Spider-Man, so much as it was Iron Boy.
  18. I assume those collectors just don't collect books whose first appearance are in magazines. They look for the first regular sized comic and consider that the 1st appearance instead. And if Elfquest never appeared in a regular sized comic, well, then Elfquest isn't collected. (I don't know, I'm just saying.)
  19. I think it is the very rare comic collector who picks up their first book when they are in their 20s versus when they were kids. I just don't see people watching these movies all of a sudden becoming interested in the source material if they otherwise had no interest in reading comics. that just is not going to happen.
