  1. Although I’ve made no purchase, the mentoring provided by the HofC has contributed to a successful ebay 20-cent listing day. I thank you sir.
  2. After a prolonged absence, it has been a pleasure renewing the connection to such quality books. Thank you sir for plugging holes in my Want List. /R TSTQ
  3. I can't say enough in expressing my appreciation of comicdey. The transfer of ownership on a much sought after grail and his willingness to entertain a lengthy negotiation is admirable. Thank you sir.
  4. Belated KUDOS to rjpb for supporting a collector of a lower genre. IMO, an unsolicited trade of a quality book makes one humble and speaks volumes for character. Thank you sir.
  5. Nice aquatint..!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I collect; Hand painted lithographs from the mid 19th century, mostly birds by; Gould, Kuelemans, Audubon and a few others. Plated/illustrated natural history books from the late 19th century. Hand carved wooden letter openers/page turners with a animal or human theme, folk-art preferred but hard to come by. Here’s some plates;
  6. It is in the guide; Promotional, first page, ACTION COMICS, Theater. Got it on ebay for 12 bucks, shipping included. It was sittin' there with no bids...so....seein how it was in my genre (westerns)....... The book is clean; I don't believe it's ever been read. The printing and coloring is really quality work; very sharp with no color runs/bleed overs. The staple is thru the first 16 pages and then folded beyond the staple. There are a few flaws; under the 'C' in comic you can see where a staple was punched and removed, also under the guy who's tied up a staple was punched and removed; again these staples went thru the first 16 pages. Then at the center right edge you can see a staple was punched thru and removed, it went thru all 32 pages. The seller; thepapercollector There's been a ton of promotional books on ebay these past weeks. I really enjoy the pre-war, anti-communism books. I've placed bids but I've yet to win any. I've enjoyed this thread; searched it out before my purchase. Thanks for posting and for the introduction to a very stimulating, eclectic area of books/collecting.
  7. They say it starts with one....here's an impulse buy..!!
  8. Man, I hate that. You know, I've recently read a thread on this board tellin so-n-so to jack up the contrast when scanning, it'll bring out the colors. Makes me wonder what some of these books really look like..?? All said; it's a nice book.....I'd like to own it. BTW....I clocked this one last week.
  9. OG...Atlas....a mere pittance compared to the guns on this board !! ...oops, I forgot this..
  10. Weren't comics sold most everywhere? Even if you didn't buy them when you 5, 8 or 10, they were still around. Living on 211 Street south of the Loop (Chicago) you couldn't help but run into those 10 cent covers.....at that time (1957 & up), the main selection could be found in or around the train stations, Illinois Central a commuter train to the Loop, & the Northwestern (different stations) which acquired other lines heading south to St Louis.....I remember the book rack at the 214 Street station (combined w/the Greyhound station) being as tall as I was - 4 foot and a good 4 foot wide......you could also find books in and around the rural bus stops, at the mom & pop stores.....here you would find the Archie’s, Donald Ducks and stuff like that...a book or two but nothing like the selection at train stations, they had MONSTER books at the train stations....with "Shock Theater" on TV and MONSTER books at the train station it was a great time to be a kid! ok, i guess i somehow confused you guys (Adam and Mica included) when i said i never saw a 10center on the stands. but, i clearly was referencing my previous statement regarding Classics (illustrated, that is...........). Sir, I caught the tail end of the exchange and I was of the notion the comment referred to 10 centers in general......I have no knowledge of what you have or don't have. My related experience was not meant as a slur, my intent was to share a moment in time lost forever. Looking back on the thread, the reference is clearly made in regards to Classic Illustrated. It appears this was understood by all but me. w/r TSTQ

  12. ....huh, a rip-off of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow ?? Weren't we all rooting for Ichabod Crane on his nightly ride and grim encounter with the specter of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman ?? Surely we all were enthralled with the readings of Washington Irving in the early years of our public education...!!?? Nice book.....love those Cole's....Mr A. Strange your books always look fresh off the rack !!
  13. If you've been to the western thread you've seen these....with no western covers here I thought I'd drag 'em over. I got two holes in this short run...# 12 & # 14 .... PM if ya can fill 'em!
