  1. Comic collecting is like that. Regrets selling the ones that stand the test of time.

there was a guy in the MJI threat that trawlled through sales data. He mentioned in the past 10 years. Only 2 ASM129 cgc9.2 traded and none higher. So…maybe there isn’t anything better

Thank for the compliment, I am actually rather new on the MJI kick compared to some of the other users on here, but I'm a fast learner and a bit OCD :roflmao:.  As far as my best MJI/Diamond issues, I have ASM 97 in 9.0, 100 in 8.5, 101 in 6.0, 122 in 8.0, 194 in 9.2, 238 in 9.4 and 252 in 9.0. My highest graded MJI issue is X-Men #191 with the Bose wrap as well in 9.8.

    That’s a very nice collection. 101 diamond isn’t easy to find. And 122, 194, 238 and 252! Didn’t even know 238 had a MJI!

been trying to find a decent IH181 too but those seem super rare

Yep. At least it's more info than CGC gives you in their census...

I go to each book, then use the "find" feature in my browser(with "mark jewelers" as the search term) to make it slightly easier. I did that through the Amazing Spider-Man title to make a spreadsheet on how many of specific issues had MJIs and double covers...surprisingly, CGC MJIs are nearly as hard to find as double covers! Probably because MJI copies were way less likely to be cherished than a rare error.

Ah. This is more like hard cord research! Good job. You might have some of the best research in MJI in the world.

I’ve always suspected MJI was something like 1-3% of the population for 70s comics. At high grade, <0.5% as it must have been hard to keep comics clean when stationed overseas. Been trying to find high grade key comics with MJI/Diamond for years, but so far, just the ASM129, a XM94 in 8.0 and an Iron Man 55 in 5.0.

Mine's a 3.5, lol. But, I'm not jealous at all. :taptaptap: I use the GPAnalysis site. They've compiled sales records for the past 20 or so years, so since CGC doesn't track MJIs, sites like theirs are the only way to find out if something exists. It doesn't mean there aren't higher grade MJIs out there, they've just not been logged by them. And according to their records there are no MJI copies logged higher than a 9.2, so you may well have the highest graded copy, but not the only one. There are at least two 9.2s out there. If you paid about 2300 for yours in 2019*, then yours is one of the two that sold that year. If not, then there are at least 3 9.2 MJIs out there.

    *Creepy, huh?

That’s very cool….and creepy. On GPAanalysis, is there a flag for MJI so it’s easy to find? Or do you need to go through the detail?!

Looked at my purchase and it’s indeed a 2019 purchase at around that price…

I was inspired by Cpt Kirk's observation that it would just be pointless(I'm paraphrasing, obviously:nyah:) to have a complete MJI collection of a specific title and have copies in mid to low grade. My highest graded Amazing Spider-Man MJI is #177 in 9.6. It made me wonder how rare 9.8 ASM MJIs are. Well, according to GPA and my own experience, there are only 17 ASMs with the insert that are 9.8(in fact, there are more 9.8 ASM double covers in the run from 96-349!). Here are the issues that have 9.8s that have been sold since GPA started compiling sales: #135, 144, 162, 191, 240, 252*, 265, 280, 287, 288, 299, 303, 308, 312, 316, 321, 338. So only 4 from the Bronze Age. Represents just how rare high grade MJI copies are to find!

*Not on GPA, I know this from an eBay user showing me a picture of theirs

This is amazing research! How do you go about finding out what the highest graded MJI is and how many there are? Didn’t know this was possible?

I have a ASM 129 in CGC9.2. Always wondered if there were any higher graded ones…

If your OCD is less than mine, I've got some good news for you. CGC doesn't consider DD 162 to be part of the Miller set, since it was a fill-in issue by Michael Fleisher and Steve Ditko. If you purchase that book, you won't be able to put it in the set because CGC doesn't have a slot for it. So now you only need three books to complete the set! Congratulations!

If, on the other hand, skipping an issue causes you to grind your teeth, as it did me, you're back to needing 162 whether you can put it in the set or not.

Oh right. Didn’t know about 162! Although I’ll still search for it.

Actually, all my comics are also White pages, but for the last 4, I’ll be happy to look past it
