Definitely.  I'd be more disappointed with the signature if it wasn't such a cool event.  He ran all over the place and did his level best to quickly give each person in the front row either a signature or lean in for a selfie.  He seems to genuinely care about his fans...who funny enough were largely women in their 30's and 40's.  Not exactly the target demographic for a movie about boxing robots.  :roflmao:

I was able to get 2 other books done, those these are long gone at this point:

So there was a CGC facilitator at the Real Steel event?

It's strange, because in the case of the Hulk cover, it's the simple, childlike, whimsical nature that makes me stop and take a second look at it, and for whatever reason, I really like that particular cover, even though it's not usually the style I like. For example, I usually hate most of what Skottie Young does, even though you can see parallels between his work and Momoko's Hulk 1 cover in some ways...

Interesting posts and all valid opinions, though I agree with Jesse-Lee that the "point" of Momoko's art is that it is unconventional and allows (forces) all of us comic book fans to see things in a different way, which is what art does. To me, it's refreshing to see comic art that's not just a copy of everything else out there. If nothing else, I like that she does not focus or obsess on anatomical perfection or extremes, which seems to be the fashion these days with so many other artists.

Yes, drawn, colored, painted on blank variants.

That’s just crazy good stuff. I mean, most of the sketch covers shown in this thread look like they were professionally printed and are so much better in terms of being fully realized, final pieces of art, compared to the sketches I’ve seen done by more “established” artists, like JS Campbell, Jim Lee, or Frank Miller, which tend to be more “cartoony” and simple.
I wonder which are more valuable on the market.

Oh, I see. So I guess that's how most of the cover art shown in this thread was done - i.e., sent directly to the artist first rather than submitted through CGC's private signing/sketch events. Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

FYI, I actually was just able to confirm with CGC that books being submitted for full page sketches do NOT need to be window bagged, which makes sense. However, books submitted for remarques still need to be window bagged.

You can reach out to them on their website to see if they are open for commissions and ask do they send to CGC. I do it all the time. I normally send in the form that is required pre-filled out with my name, number of books and my CGC account number. After that they sign it and mail the item in with the form. Once received. Someone from CGC will contact you on how you want it shipped, tier and payment method. Hope that helps

  6. Hey all, I’m new to all this sketch work on comic books but find it really fascinating. I’m thinking about submitting some blank cover books to CGC for Jim Lee to sketch on, but I’m a little confused about how to submit them. If CGC requires all books be window bagged for submission, how did you all get these artists to fill the entire cover with their sketches, ie. edge-to-edge? Not to mention the back covers??
I’d really appreciate any pointers. Thanks!

I would sell. That book in that condition is nice to let go. I find it a lot but don't always see it going for decent money. Ebay sales I am seeing make me think I should unload a few...

The Neal Adams Batmans are criminally undervalued. Here's my BM 244 signed and remarked by the artist, which I have listed on eBay and will not let for less than $675 (lots of view but no takers so far, lol):

I'd also add, you're not buying a comic. You are buying a slab from CGC that says 9.8 on it and a comic book inside. That's where the hundreds are going.

Outside of hot keys that sell even when raw, nearly every book you are concerned about from that era can be found for $15 for less in nice shape. Often $5 or less.

I paid about $17, which included shipping, for this. Mid-grade. Classic Neal Adams cover, 1st appearance of a minor character (that had a TV show). Money going into some books seems to mean some others are getting ignored. Yes, a cgc 9.8 will probably be over $1000, but a 9.4 is probably only $100-150.

Nothing wrong with getting some nice mid-grade Adams! But I still think that despite all of its shortcomings, a CGC 9.8 label is worth every penny if you're lucky enough to get it, at least for now.

  10. You should definitely ask CGC to recheck and regrade if you really think they made a mistake. I've had several books regraded for free and got better results. The best example is my Batman 251 which originally received a 9.0 with white/off-white pages. I wrote to CGC and told them they must have made a mistake, because the book was practically flawless and that any stress lines should have been corrected by pressing. Also, CGC originally said that there was a small corner crease, which they realized was not actually a crease after regrading it. It came back graded 9.6 with WHITE pages! Amazing but true. It's a pain in the to have to check CGC's grading and get them to fix it, but they will if you are clear and have a legitimate argument. Heck, they even credited me $100 for the trouble after they regraded about a dozen of my books, with most of them coming back with better grades. I figure it may have something to do with the fact that I've spent almost $10,000 on CGC/CSS, so I guess they want to keep me happy.

  11. So guess what? After I got my book back, I decided I wasn't happy with CGC's grading of 9.0 for this book, and asked them to re-grade it, because I thought that was bit low and had overly penalized the book for the small corner crease (which I don't think is actually a crease). Any they agreed to look at the book at no charge, and LO AND BEHOLD - it came back with a 9.6!!  Which means it just tripled in value :flipbait:, and which also makes me question alot of my other grades, but I guess I should just count my blessings and leave it alone...for now.
