  1. Here are the current average prices over the last year for slabbed copies: 9.0 $18 9.2 $34 9.4 $40 9.6 $48 9.8 $104 I would just buy one that’s already graded, especially since you are new to grading and slabbing. If you want a keepsake, buy an Amazing Spider-Man #129.
  2. Me. I have zero interest in any of the DC sci-fi/fantasy/horror titles with the exception those that have work by Jack Kirby. I dislike both the art and the stories. Other than that, I'm a run collector.
  3. You wouldn't have to be stupid, you'd just need to be a casual buyer or new collector, unlike the folks on the boards, who breezes through the listings hits the BIN and doesn't realize what they are getting. I'd wager the seller submitted the book based on feedback.
  4. Unless you live in VT or MA, in which case if you hit $600 in PP transactions regardless of amount you're on the hook.
  5. Odd CGC would even slab the book like this since the ulterior motive to scam someone seems pretty obvious.
  6. That is the nuts-and-bolts, yes, but there is more nuance to it. I understand "a seller can put any price he/she wants on a book, etc etc" and that is not my point. I also understand he is not the only one to use the boards in this way but he specifically has caught my attention multiple times across multiple pre-boards venues. The idea of the boards as a "community" is no longer relevant, but situations like this turn members here into pure dollar signs. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/447354-new-books-now-frazetta-baker-schomburg-cole-decarlo-action-batman-joker-cover-science-fiction-gga-crime/?do=findComment&comment=10586009 Thanks for the link. This is true, but it has been less of a community than it was for many, many years. To play devils advocate, even in the early days of there were members who only participated on the boards to sell stuff, even flipping books from previous board sales. It is what it is.
  7. So, the gripe is the book sold on ebay and now a seller here is asking more money? Who is the seller? Where is the thread?
  8. A link or more info would be nice. Can't make heads or tails from your clue and don't have time to scour every sales thread.
  9. Sort of. It was his first leading into the pre-hero giant monster books, but he also did a handful of implosion/pre-implosion stories for Atlas in the late 50s as well.
  10. That was my reaction when I saw the bouncing Greek flag was no longer flying.
  11. Technically I'd say 1968, when Martin Goodman was finally able to get out of the distribution deal with DC that straight-jacketed the number of titles Marvel could publish in a given month. Artistically, i'd say with the publication of FF #1.

  13. If you hover the cursor over the "Posted _ hours ago" it shows he put in a bid at 11:58, right before the auction's end. Looks to me he won them fair and square. Sushi's came in at 2:06 am and Crimebusters at 2:34 am.
  14. I’ve be reading issues towards the end of Jack Kirby’s run recently. Even as a youngun, I usually tried to buy the best copy I could find, like this #89. Sometimes though I’d settle for lower grade copies that I’d now like to upgrade. Books i don’t already own are a bigger priority, though.
  15. Bringing this thread back because I just picked up a few more. I've never been a fan of his inking on other artists, but left to his own devices, Vince Colletta did A-okay with the feminine form.
