  1. Combination of things.....first off, I've wanted an Okajima pedigree book to add to my collection, because of the intriguing backstory (what there is off it) and I wanted one with the signature on it. Plus the Cole cover and the beautiful condition. And CW gave me a counteroffer I thought was very fair. And there you have it! red, it is just a beautiful book. i'm after one [at least] of every g.a. pedigree, and i've got my eye on an o'jima that fits into one of my little runs. ain't saying what/where, just in case my big mouth led an adversary for the book to the feeding pen. i will say that if i do not win the book, the guy who does will have to like it alot because he will have paid a dear price for it.
  2. hello all... I missed the crippin run that sold on heritage last year, that is the only time I have seen them available anywhere... rick 'gator, back-to-back ain't lookin' so hot, not with the round ball, anyway. and you're going to be sitting next to me in 7 mos. when the other dream bites the dust. still, you have had fun while it lasted. the boys in purple and gold will be the first two-time bcs champions come next january, and i know i'll be enjoying myself.
  3. Speaking of fantastic covers....this "pair of blue jeans" arrived today.. YOWZA! ...I guess we know what the "big" purchase was, huh? Thanks Rick! But, no, this isn't the BIG purchase. That will have to wait until a week from Saturday. I am on pins and needles so I needed something to tide me over.... to 99.9% of collectors, a Cap 1 is the BIG purchase...my money is on either an Action 1, a Detective 27, an All American 16 or Millie the Model #70.... rick, he already got his millie grail, the annual 1 he beat out of me. i waited for years to finally find a nice hi grade one, and he charmed it out of me in no time.
  4. Speaking of fantastic covers....this "pair of blue jeans" arrived today.. blue chain mail jeans, huh buddy? that's a man! [you, not the wing-headed guy].
  5. now just let someone try to convince me that taste cannot be acquired later in life!! i always held out hope for him; thank goodness i was indefatigable, as it did take some time. he just went from being a comic collector to a Comic Collector! way to go my man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. that was Harley's, huh? i tried to buy it in c'town and then in minneapolis, but could never get him to move. kinda wish i'da sprung for it now, as i want all the non-jungle jumbo covers [excluding the big ones]--neat little several book run.
  7. 'up to snuff' indeed; i gave some thought to doing just that to the owner and take the book back home with me. called a local d.a. back home to make sure the criminal penalties would be understandably negligible in light of the victim being a fla. gators fan and constantly wearing their clashing orange and blue colors; was told that tho' that would surely be the case where i live, maybe NOT so in mississippi, so i let him live.
  8. man, that 74 is KILLER; what fool let that go? which pedigree is it? must've gone for a couple grand, huh? i do recognize that 3 by the way. good luck finding a centerfold for it. you'll probably come across one some day.
  9. paul, i've got the marvel 87 from that same collection; i swear the little date written up in the logo is the same ink, same handwriting as mine. too cool.
  10. the 'laurin' copy!! i think that's lamont's sister. you knocked your first one out of the park, brother. congrats.
  11. i swear that picture looks better every time i open the link. just cooler looking than pulling them all out individually from their boxes, which i've also done. way to go you big yankee.
  12. Beautimus, simply and perfectly............I am at a loss for words, nice pool table! that group shot would have another book or two in it if not for his losses to me on that very pool table. no big loss for the boards tho', as it does add to my own group shots.
  13. rick, i TOLD you those color xeroxes would look just like real comics inside those fortresses. awesome!!
  14. Fantastic set of books C-dub!!! Beautiful Spirits and a nice mix of other titles, toss in a Fantastic #3 and a Detective 31 and MAN that is just fabulous! Here is my recently updated "Baker's Dozen" Is that a DETECTIVE 27 garbage can? What are you, some kind of comic nerd??? (great money shot Bill!) this guy is so strong, he keeps a 'tec 27 IN the garbage can!!!!!!!
  15. man, that was quite a spirit ual experience, i must say.
  16. Bill, there's an AA 16 in that shot...and you didn't pick it up? Good grief man, you're slipping STEVE Now there's a bed any guy could get me into. fay there's a girl already in that bed fay--don't you see my miss fury 1 in there!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. That must be the Central Valley SS 20, right? theagenes, you hit that nail on the head. man, was that something to ogle.
  18. Okay Bill your killing me, what a collection. Can we get better scans of the two Marvel Mystery #9's and the Sub-Mariner Comics #32? Also what do I need to do to pry a copy out of your hands? the mm 9 on the bottom right is mine, and it's one of those soiled looking books that a close scan wouldn't improve much--it looks about as good there as it's going to look. the subby 32 [okajima, by the way] and the other 9 went back to their home in texas, but if they're not yet back to the bank, i'll try to get the owner to scan and show them. may be too late, tho'.
  19. Okay Bill your killing me, what a collection. Can we get better scans of the two Marvel Mystery #9's and the Sub-Mariner Comics #32? Also what do I need to do to pry a copy out of your hands? broke? i'd have to phart in my wallet to have a cent.
  20. Cool stuff huh!? Here is a pic that leaves a few out, but you can see the ones near the top better. Bah! No Silver Streak 1 or 6?!? Utter tripe. (oh, also ) not only is there a ss 1 in that shot, it is the PAY COPY 9.0!! [no bragging here; it's not mine].
  21. Bill, there's an AA 16 in that shot...and you didn't pick it up? Good grief man, you're slipping STEVE steve, as i recall, he DID pick it up; asked the price and then set it back down.
  22. to quote an oft-heard phrase from one of my groups Geekfests: "If you don't like those, you don't like funny-books." well done, sir.
