  1. Hmmm....the back cover looks like there is spine roll that hasn't been mentioned so maybe I am wrong. If so, I think the grade "as is" will be knocked down. With a press and clean, 9.2ish with same comments as MPH1964 and spine corrected. Nice book!!
  2. Ya, that hurts because the rest of the book is so nice. So, 8.5??
  3. Thanks. I guess that one goes in the press and submit to CGC box!!!
  4. I know you said they held your funds for no apparent reason but did they at least attempt to justify why they held the funds?? I agree, I would not like that. When dealing with Board members are they agreeable to sharing their credit card info?? Thanks!
  5. Thanks. Yep, read the whooooooole thing!! I am sure I will still mess up but I will try to be a good forum citizen.
  6. I hadn't considered the PayPal fees. To me it seems reasonable at 3% to get a secured payment instantly especially when compared to Ebay My assumption was the sellers were protecting themselves from being ripped off when they accept PayPal.....and I am not criminally creative enough to figure out how they could do that.
  7. Hi, I am thinking about starting to sell on the forum. I currently sell on eBay and the fees...well, you know. When looking at other sellers "terms" for selling I see that at least a few appear hesitant to accept PayPal unless they know you or you have solid references. Can anyone explain to me the potential problems when accepting PayPal?? I did a quick search and didn't really find anything specific. I see many accept personal checks which I am assuming the funds must clear on the sellers side before shipping. Correct? Thanks.
  8. These books are getting some attention so....thought I would see what you all think. PGM Marvel Comics Presents #1. Thanks!!
  9. OK, finally had time to pull the book in question and think I got a decent pic of the defect. I tried to measure it, looks like 3/16"??? At any rate, more than an 1/8" and less than 1/4"....with my eyes. Also, with the magnified pics, I am changing my original thoughts.....looks like there may have been a "bump" on that corner. I definitely can't see it with my naked eye. Thanks in advance for your help!!
  10. Sell or Hold.... Since this is a speculation thread, I have a #3 and #4 TMNT first series. I have been out of the comic thing for many years and recently decided to significantly reduce the collection. The prices of books caught me a little off guard...in a good way from a sellers prospective. So my question, sell or hold? They are raw and I am guessing around the 8.0, 8.5 range.....the #4 might be better. So, speculate away!!
  11. Hi All, I have a modern comic that appears to be 9.6 possibly better but, it has a very small split on the top left corner. It appears to be about 1/8". Doesn't appear to be any impact to the corner, spine is clean, other corners look sharp.... so I am wondering if that would be considered a bindery defect and whether or not that is the case, what is the deduct from the grade. I would post pics but I can't get the split to show up on camera and I definitely don't want to potentially make it worse. Much appreciation for your time and wisdom. Peace
  12. Question, the pic is a Star Wars comic with the glossy cover stock. These books are prone to chipping (?) on the spine fold. Is this a bindery defect or a flaw on the book? What does it do to the grade?? This book was purchased off the shelf by me the day it came into the LCS so I am fairly confident it has never been opened. I appreciate the help. Thanks!!
  13. Please take a look and provide your estimate grade for this well worn ASM 101. I struggle to grade books at this level. The book is complete and the cover is attached. Staples look clean.
  14. Thanks all for the input! Pretty sure this has run its course so I will throw the spoiler in.....I cracked this book that was graded by a service other than CGC planning to send it for a P&C and resubmit to CGC. The reason I asked for the PGM was, 1) To see if the unnamed grading company was close to the consensus of this group, 2) To see what the grade might after a press and clean. I feel like a press and clean will make a big difference with this book. No matter what, even if it comes back at the same grade it will be a better book in the end and being graded by CGC definitely makes it easier to sell. The grade assigned by that other unnamed service was.... Thanks again!!
  15. Agreed. I wouldn't try to sell them individual but was wondering about breaking them into groups of 10 or 20.....hopefully catch a few more desirable books into each group. I know I have purchased books that way and probably over paid a little because I wanted to complete the run and had others that bid against me. Just didn't know if others have had success doing that. Your right, I do not want to get stuck with some middle issues that no one wants!!
  16. Ya, many years ago I would ship via media mail but I got the "postal worker gets a wild hair up their butt" and that was enough for me. Can you pack pack books well enough to ship in short/long boxes?? I tend to over pack the books for shipping.
  17. Curious what is the best way to sell a large run, full sets of books? Examples, a full run of higher grade Ultimate Spider Man which consists of approximately 140 books. Harbinger full run, Solar (Valiant), full run, etc. Down you break them into smaller groupings or sell as a full run? Also, any tips on keeping the cost of shipping down? Thanks.
  18. Opinions please...also, crystal ball opinions post a press and clean. Thanks you for your help!
  19. Dang it sux to get old.... I should have said I started collecting in the mid to late 90's and was active on these boards.....if memory serves me....sometime after 2002
  20. Thanks for the reply. That all seems logical and the key is to determine an accurate grade initially. I guess the other piece that I probably didn't communicate clearly, is there a grade level that you can do better selling raw versus slabbed. I am thinking of an experienced book dealer I know that told me I would be better off selling an already graded/slabbed 7.0 ASM 129 - raw. So that made me wonder is there some logic to his statement and if so, what is it?? Is he assuming someone might pay more speculating a higher grade?? I dunno.....
  21. I am not a complete NOOB but a NOOB to submitting to CGC. Back in the mid to late 90's I was active on these boards and mostly bought books for my collection. Life got to very busy, I stopped collecting and my collection sat. Now I have decided to sell most of my collection. My question, with selling in mind, how do YOU decide what to sell raw or submit for grading. Thanks in advance.
  22. I was hoping to drop books at CGC. Saw the note on their website about not allowing the general public to drop-off due to COVID so I called this afternoon to see if they would be allowing drop offs in the future....thinking I would wait. I was told CGC is no longer going to allow the public to drop off directly, regardless of COVID. They will only accept drop offs from CGC authorized dealers. I agree with the OP, makes me nervous to ship what I consider expensive books.
  23. You all probably already know this but just in case, somebody mentioned the possibility of dropping off their books directly to CGC in Sarasota. I live fairly close and was wondering the same. Maybe I am a control freak but shipping pricey books concerns me. The website says they stopped accepting books from the public due to COVID. With things in Florida being what they are, I called to see if that policy was going change in the near future. The answer is no. They are no longer going to allow the public to drop directly. Next call is to Joey!!
  24. Does the person doing the actual grading see the previous grade of the book if you submit in the original cgc case? Just wondering if that might influence them one way or another. I am planning to resubmit a few books for regrading but planned to crack them myself before submitting.
