Took 192 pages, but progress on something that shouldn't have took so much pressure.
It should have been obvious from the start. Not rubbing it in, but it shows the right
    pressure does get a response.

I think it was my "Things Money Can't Buy" meme from last night that did it.  :roflmao:

We appreciate everyone being patient with our follow-up regarding the Clayton Crain acetate covers. After discussions this past week, CGC will assign a Qualified Signature Series label to comics that contain an acetate cover by Mr. Crain, as well as his signature that has been witnessed by a CGC representative. This also applies to the Ultimate Fallout: Facsimile Edition #4 that sold in C2E2. The grade assigned will take into consideration the grade of the acetate cover as well as the interior book.  For members who have already submitted copies of the Ultimate Fallout issue to CGC, we will extend an opportunity to have Mr. Crain’s signature applied to their copies so they receive the Qualified Signature Series label. If a copy does not exhibit Mr. Crain’s witnessed signature, the book will receive a qualified grade.

Going forward, CGC will only certify artist-created covers that are first approved by CGC, and those covers must be signed by the artist through the Signature Series program to receive the Qualified Signature Series label. The cover must be created by a published artist.

This is great news!  It is great that a company can admit a mistake.  Faith restored, especially with not editing this thread!

    So two quick thoughts here:

    1. this says that signed and witnessed acetate covers will get a Signature Series Qualified label with a grade that “will take into consideration the grade of the acetate cover as well as the interior book.” Then it goes on to state that a copy without Crain’s signature will receive a “qualified grade.” So basically, Signature Series books will grade higher and unsigned books will grade lower. So, this was a masterful corporate PR pivot to soft-sell the Signature Series and a future Crain in-house signing.

    2. Apparently, future after-production covers will need to be pre-approved by CGC. I assume there was a little Marvel finger-wagging here and CGC’s pre-approval will in-turn also require Marvel’s pre-approval as the IP holder. In short, it’s exceedingly unlikely this will happen again in the future with a Marvel book.

    1.  This question doesn't make sense to me?  Non-signed books will get a qualified label.  Signed books will get a qualified lable signature series.  The way they are graded is the same (acetate cover + interior of the book... which after adding the cover means the original cover is now part of the interior).

    2.  I agree, looks like this may have been a gray area before but now is black & white to those involved.

It does appear to be their approach to moderns.

Id like this clarified as don't want to be in scenario  where pay premium to   buy a slabbed modern 9.6 / 9.8  only to crack it and find out  its  full of crisps,  greasy finger marks and creased pages  on the inside

@CGC Mike's response above specifically says "The grade assigned will take into consideration the grade of the acetate cover as well as the interior book."  That should address your concern.

Regarding the status of the previously graded books... as of now (Aug 22), the census has not been updated.  The original grading took place on 7/29, the correction with "Intrust" added was made on 8/12.  So now we await the qualified update...

We already have people broadcasting on Whatnot at cons selling items through the platform instead of the con itself. I admit to have used it as I bought a Frank Cho piece through Comicsketch Art that was being sold during the SDCC. While it worked out for me the piece was only available through the Whatnot platform. If I had paid to be at the show and watched the only sketches being auctioned in front of me (they do it at the table) I would be frustrated.

It was more annoying than anything else.  Listening to the dealers hawk their books in Livestreams got old very quick.  If I went to the con and didn't get a book I wanted, but somebody got the convention exclusive through whatnot, I would be pissed.  Just like seeing it up on eBay only this is in your face and on much more public space.

and to get that razor sharp 10.0 edge, would assume would need to take a little off the original book too.     ( i.e. in theory its   only achievable to get a 10.0 cut in the original production phase when dont need to TRIM the final book to get things to line up as in production they are all cut together as one.    i really would like to know if it can be done another way )

    Wait... what?

Is that for this specific item or does that happen with frequency with other items as well?

It was highlighted by people joining auctions for the UF4 book and calling it bootleg, etc.  The last time I logged onto Whatnot, it gave me a warning that disrupting auctions is reason for removal.  I had not disrupted any auctions, I hadn't even logged in since before the whole UF4 scandal started.  So they must be warning everyone.

Not when there's a private back-alley deal made with the artist and retailer for CGC to sell them the grades and the blue-labels, as long as CGC is in the approval-pipeline of "producing" the book - no-questions-answered.

    :censored:

And Whatnot can boot you from the platform if you question the legitimacy.

I tried to register and was approved to see but the onboarding was ridiculous I ended up having to pass.

Once you are approved you then have to do an onboarding video training or something.

Then its fact its a live stream all the time I could not workout a sell time.

Id rather sell on a stationary platform like the forums or ebay

    Same issue with me.

AF15 is a bullet-proof investment. Sure it’s cooling now but that was expected. Spider-Man is very popular because of the movies. He’s the KING of all comic books. Always has been, even before 1962

if you haven’t got a copy of this MEGA KEY, you missed out and will never get one.

I don't have one, are you saying I can never get one now?

That is the date they "updated" the verbiage of the book to correct some of the original inaccuracies.  Interesting that the updated verbiage for the book in the Certification Verification is different than the original incorrect label.  The books were originally graded on 7/29 I believe.  The original date is referenced somewhere in the previous 180 pages.

Unfortunately, I don’t think credibility is a prerequisite or desired trait among the WhatNot crowd.

There is a role for credibility.  This may be a financial fraud analyst instead of a comic book or collectible fraud analyst.

Either you need to contact Aaron directly... or he has the easiest job in the world and will just respond "We have fraud but won't address because 'you know...' life stuff."

Also, the person who wrote that text is not the CEO of Whatnot, that person is a YT Influencer who Whatnot may have employed or contracted with.  That is Jack DeMayo from Simpleman's comics (not sure if they are still active).  But if you want to learn to be a YT influencer... here you go:

When was the last time Crain worked for Marvel?

There is a reason he's been on a road tour for three years. Marvel now regards him as a retailer.

These books were being used to advertise and legitimize the new Black Flag publishing company.  Marvel is not ok with that.

CGC: "fool me once, shame on the board.  fool me twice, shame on the boards again.  fool me three times, what else can we do to wring money from customers?"

I would say it's more like this:  "fool me once, shame on the vendor.  getting called out for being fooled, shame on the board for questioning our authoritae.  must save face and say this was planned because we don't want the board to lose faith in our perfection, shame on the board again.  must save face again so triple down until we can get them to believe it or forget about it.

    • Bring in head grader team (who is this mysterious Illuminati team... inquiring minds want to know)
    • Who are the established artists (is the list simply the CGC on-site in Florida SS list?).
    • I'm ready for a Crain vs Liefeld debate.

    (D) Clayton Crain is a good or bad artist

Unlike the majority here, I do like his art.  He has drawn many things with the American Flag as well (e.g. the entire Carnage U.S.A. series).  Also, some of the sigs are pretty cool.  Take a look at this one below, the ice effect is very cool (pun intended).  And for those who say they have never heard of him, he must be pretty popular because this looks like his own personal CGC custom label with his sig on it.
