  1. For the sushi dinner, maybe you can practice cracking open your wallet instead.
  2. For next year's contest, I will have the books scanned before I send to CGC. The "having to guess whether the scratch is on the comic or the outer shell or the inner well" business is not fair to any of you. Baby steps.
  3. but did you leave with the shorts you were wearing?
  4. Round 6....a nightmare for most. From the depths of the river of lava flowing throughout the land, one person rose up, with the correct grades hurriedly scratched upon a small piece of paper. He held it high above the fiery water for all to see. It was his proof, his right to 10 points. While his very name hints towards lowliness, his actions show differently. Take a bow, Point Five. More congratulations are in order, and to top this list, we cannot forget the gent at the top of our list, toro. First place, once again, young man. Let's see if you can hold it. With a tricky ASM, points were few and far between. If you got 4 points or better in this round, you did incredibly. Round 7 is next. Don't get comfortable or lazy. Collect these points as you would little gold coins. Collect as many as you can, as the end is nearly in sight.
  5. Round 7: Your grades/guesses are due by 10:00 PM EDT on Tuesday, August 15th. Book 13: Black Panther #1 White pages Book 14: Torchy #6 Off-White pages
  6. Me too. Had 9.2 on that ASM but got hammered for the double corner creasing on the bottom right corner.
  7. This my favorite. Not a fan of the rhyming ones. Genesis is comics and gaming.
  8. Well, Ron, the fault really falls on me. I like to use books in my contests that are either cool, rarely seen, have special defects that will be interesting to see how CGC handles it, and so on and so forth. From doing this, I'd say that perhaps 6-8 of my 20 books used will have fairly low census numbers. I will pay closer attention and try to use books that are harder to just look up. As far as the census checking goes, I cannot control this. I know that some here (perhaps many) will check the census to see how many graded copies there are out there. This becomes less of a grading contest and more of a research project. But, it is one of many tools that people use to ascertain what they think these books grade out as. I must admit, I have used it too, but only after I've actually graded the book. It would be a shame to not be able to use the books that I want to use, but I do see that my choices need a little fine tuning. Sorry everyone. Don't apologize. Everyone participating knows this is a grading contest not a CGC census look-up contest. Wondering if CGC would agree to temporarily remove data from the census prior to running a contest like this on their forum. Especially if books were all recent submissions, perhaps on just one or few invoices. It is promoting their products and services after all. @Architecht I doubt they would temporarily remove 20 serial numbers from their census, but I could be wrong. Arch, if I wanted to reach out to someone at CGC, who would be a good person to start with? Thanks, Andy
  9. This is why I would consider not using acronyms. "Get your STDs at GCG" Here's a bunch of quick ideas. Many may be awful suggestions, but one might lead you to something a bit more clever and catchy. Genesis Comics, first in gaming Genesis Comics, first in everything You have no nemesis at Genesis In the beginning, there was Genesis Genesis Comics, your first and last stop Genesis Comics, your only choice We're your bro and your sis, at Genesis For fun and bliss, try Genesis The shop you don't want to miss, Genesis
  10. Yes, the books are all mine. Congrats on the 65th place, btw. Now let's start climbing!!
  11. Round 5 proved itself to be the easiest so far, with 26 double bulls-eyes to be handed out. It's not often that you score 6 or 8 points in a round and watch your placement in the contest fall back. That happened to many and I'll bet they're not feeling too gay right now. Congrats to the guys at the very top! Azkaban, KPR Comics, NinjaSealed and toro are all tied for 1st at the moment. With the first half of the contest behind us, there's going to have to be some sharpening of pencils and tightening of grades. The second half is ALWAYS harder than the first. Good luck, all.
  12. well, I'm not going to be calling anyone a cheater here, but I will be choosing a little more wisely going forward.
