  1. I was just going to see who you were intending to invite to the War Banquet, and saw this post. Perfect! All of you who will be able to meet this legend are so lucky!. I will see if I can create a thread for donations, aka a fundraiser, but I will be happy to contribute $400 cash to get this rolling. I know that I won't be able to make it, but I also understand that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of you guys who will be there and able to attend. Sam Glanzman is truly one of the greats, and ranks very, very high on the list of under-rated and under-appreciated artists and creators. His work on U.S.S. Stevens is monumental. This will be a call to arms for the all of us to step up. Hopefully, we can raise the dough needed to get Sam and his wife, Sue, over to San Diego this year. Please help out, if you can. Andy
  2. It must be nice for you to have such up close and personal experiences with so many of these creators. You can't buy that in a comic book. (thumbs u
  3. I've yet to hear one person say they are a huge fan of his. Heck, even that they like it at all. Who's buying these up? I would never knock his talent or style, it's just not for me. Are teens buying them up? Kids? He's a cartoonist. His drawings look like cartoons.
  4. That's pretty bad advice - please don't do this, folks. Don't worry, it's just his opinion.
  5. There have been some pretty significant discussions (if I recall correctly) about what types of transactions qualify for the PL. I think the raffles etc. were discussed, and I know the PIF was discussed as I was not a popular figure with some for both my opinion and my demeanor. Pretty sure that is where "junk donkey" came from. I seem to recall Still makes me laugh!
  6. When you're going ahead with the sales thread (or auction) list your donation conditions in your first post. (Of course mention the charity bit in your title as well) Make sure that what you donate is clear. ie. don't put "Somewhere along the line of 10% if the sale brings in $1,000 and 25% if it brings in $2,000." I will donate 10% of the books sold, to The Hero Initiative. If these sales totals reach $2000, I will bump up my donation to 25%. This is for a good cause. We can make a difference together, folks, so don't hold back. (thumbs u No one should bltch if you are clear. Lastly, once the sale is final and you've made your donation to the Hero Initiative. Please provide proof in your thread that you did make that donation. That shouldn't be taken as a question of your word or ethical behaviour, it's just a necessary part of being transparent, especially when raising money for charities are involved.
  7. I haven't spammed the War Comics thread in some time now, so one quick one. My eBay auctions end on Sunday night around 8-8:30 PM EST. This week's offerings are DC war books. Starting at $1 and no reserve. Pick up some books cheaply and take advantage of unlimited shipping for $15. Thanks for the consideration, friends. Hope this post doesn't bother anyone. Andy
  8. Wow! Thank you for posting this. If you hadn't, I never would have known that someone got this much out of one of my contests. I really enjoy putting those on, but hands down the reason I do it is to allow our fellow boardies a feeling of enjoyment and amusement. Great story!!
  9. A previous winner of the Best cover survivor series, and inducted into the Hall of Fame. (thumbs u
  10. Fixed that for you, Andy! (Thanks, buddy!) Which one did you grab?
  11. I've had multiple transactions with Jeff, both buying and selling. never a problem
  12. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8374085&gonew=1#UNREAD Some very nice books for sale in this thread right now, including 2 super-sweet DC war books. I'm thinking about them myself, but wanted everyone here to have a chance at them as well. (thumbs u
  13. So....how many panels is needed for it to go from "cameo" to "first appearance"?
  14. I am not saying I don’t enjoy Allreed, period. It’s not simply about "difference" rather about suitability and consistence, if you read what I was trying to say. The Squirrel Girl artist is a woman, Ah, I didn't know the SG artist was female. After reading Koholo's rant on Allred and moving right into SG, I didn't realize it would be a different artist.
  15. I didn't buy X-Factor until Allred took over. I loved it. It may have been the writing/art combo that I enjoyed, but I would never call his artwork bad. It's just a different style. Also, I haven't read Squirrel Girl, but perhaps it's just not the right book for him to be drawing.
  16. Bought some books off of George recently, and everything went very smoothly. (thumbs u Thanks, bud! Andy
  17. Me likely. WOW Where do I get one? I thought all of the covers were pretty great.
  18. Welcome Kurt and wickedmountain. (thumbs u If you have any questions, just ask. In the meantime, enjoy yourself here.
