  1. Hey everyone ! I just wanted to start a thread about how much I love Spawn. Been collecting since the 90s and went probably 25 years without touching a Spawn book. Recently starting reading the entire series and can't get over how amazing and fun Capullo's art is. I recently bought a copy of #243, which is supposedly the lowest print run of all the books. I'm curious what people's thoughts are on how collectible the lower print run stuff is, esp with the sheer potential of how amazing a Spawn reboot could/will be. You all think these have a lot of room to grow? Also, what are your favorite issues , covers, variants, story arcs, etc. For Wanda !
  2. Never mind, I found everything I needed to know. Thanks
  3. Hey there, Hope you sold all of your books. I'm looking to sell something on here for the first time. If you could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I also have 100% on Ebay but I heard it's great selling on here once you get the hang of it. Thanks so much and good luck on the house !
  4. Wow, I didn't know that they have gotten so popular again. That's cool but bad for anyone trying to collect them now! Precode horror books really are some of the best books out there. The reprints are 30 years old so they are officially vintage now I love the reprints too bc i'm broke so it's fun collecting them. Russ Cochran really did a great service !
  5. Wow, thanks so much, guys! I will definitely spend some time familiarizing myself with how it all works before posting anything. My first question was going to be how do I know the buyer is trustworthy. Seems kind of crazy buying and selling on here when you are essentially just sending / receiving money and comics with someone you don't know via DMs. Do you wait to receive payment before sending books or vice versa? It makes sense to deal with people on the forums that have a reputation for being trustworthy and are "known". It's great though because everyone is super helpful on here!
  6. Oh, wow, I didn't know a dealer might go as low as 50% value. I've never sold on here on the boards. How does it work?
  7. Hey all, This may be self-explanatory, but I was wondering if any of you can give me any info about the best way to go about trading comics at NYCC, preferably with vendors. I've never brought books to the con with intention of trading them. I have some keys that I'd like to trade for some EC Comics, preferably raw. I've got a Silver Surfer 1 VG, Werewolf by Night 32 CGC 4.5, Green Lantern 9 VG, FF 52 CBCS 3.0, Jungle Action 6 CGC 8.5, Hulk 181 CBCS 9.0, and a few others. It seems better to try and just trade with people rather than sell online, pay fees and shipping, etc. If any of you know a good starting place or any good vendors of EC (Tales From the Crypt, Haunt of Fear, Vault of Horror) please let me know! Otherwise I'll just show up and try to make some deals Thanks in advance!
  8. Haha, i know, right. I wish I could . Just the double signed ones though Thanks for chiming in!
  9. The reasoning for the prices is Ebay, They've been solidly rising over the past little while, particularly the double signed ones by Stan and Todd. I feel like even though SM #1 was printed in the millions the high grade ones that are double signed are rather rare. Also, SM #1 is one of the most swiped covers in all of comics and it's place in pop culture is very well established now. It's just so popular and has attained one of the most iconic cover status of all time. And to have it signed by two of the most influential Spider-Man artists is pretty good long-term play.
  10. Hey all, I'm just interested in what more knowledgable signature people think about investing long term in a Spider-Man 1 from 1990 signed by both legends. For simplicity's sake, let's just say it's a 9.6 or 9.8 of the regular cover non-newsstand. I see these going for well over a thousand and closer to two thousand. Any thoughts on the ceiling ? I know Stan signed a ton of stuff and McFarlane has a lot out there now too. But a book with both of them is now not possible and only a set amount of them exist now. Thanks everyone!
  11. Dang, so you're telling me that two books that I sent for grading and pressing in Aug 2021 might not even be done for another year!? That is insane. And I just submitted two more books for grading and pressing that showed up as received by the system on 1/21/22 . Those won't get back to me until forever!
  12. Yeah , what's all your thoughts on the #1 $3.95 second printing ? I just picked one up in really nice condition and i heard they are way more rare than first printings. I want to get it graded.
  13. Yeah, it really is in so many ways. I was spoiled with it so bad that i can't even get into a lot of modern manga just based on the art. I'm just not a fan and it's not my thing . there are so many things to read that i to prioritize comics that have art i like AND a great story
  14. Niiiiiiiiice! Looks like a beautiful copy What did you pick it up for? I want to get a copy but I'm broke so I bought a second print of #1
  15. I don't think it's close to it's ceiling because I don't think that 3,270 9.8s, plus whatever people are hoarding is ever going to equate to an oversupply of that book. Miles is most definitely now a legacy character in the comics alone, not to mention live action MCU along with all the young kids, including my daughter, who say Miles in Spider-Man, not Pete. Hulk 181 has a ton of copies, albeit not 9.8s but that book will always be a blue chip. I think that 9.8s, even if there ends up being 6k+ is an oversupply. It's not going to be a 10k+ book anytime soon or ever imo but it's definitely a blue chip baby AF 15 of the modern age
  16. Congrats on selling it Wow, I had no idea there was that much time between those issues . That actually explains a lot in regards to why the last several issues are so scarce . Again, i think these are such a good spec for anyone specking . I just happen to be such a huge fan of this piece . the art of Otomo is so mind boggling in the amount of detail and storytelling . If anyone has any cool links to interviews or videos about how he drew this stuff it would be appreciated ! IMO you can pretty much take it to the bank that something huge is going to be done with this work, just a matter of time . I have no insider knowledge , just good comic instincts
  17. Yeah, I imagine those Young Magazine copies must be super hard to come by considering they were a monthly mag and published in Japan. That's why I think a lot of collectors will gravitate to the Epic copies as they are in English, comic format, full color and just really dope overall.
  18. In a way I kind of do. That's why I am curious. I am sure #1 had a heavy 1st print run but from what I know the numbers dropped significantly as it went along. Some modern books like UF#4 have way more copies graded in 9.8s and that book is not even close to its ceiling imo. Granted it's Spidey but still. If something was done with Akira these books would all get really hot I think. Also, the fact that the Epic series was colored by Steve Oliff makes them cool as hell. To me they are severely undervalued . They are also hard to find in high grade because of the format
  19. Taika Waititi has stated he's absolutely committed to try and bring it to the big screen but he keeps doing Thor movies. I'm sure he'll get around to it at some point. Also, Jordan Peele said he'd love to do it but he'd need a limitless budget and is too busy doing original stuff, which I think is better I don't think either of these comments hold much weight, but it's too grand a story and too influential work to not be adapted at some point.
  20. Hey everyone , Do any of you know there print runs of Akira from the 1988 series from Epic (Marvel) ? I've been trying to slowly collect the series and I've beem wondering because there aren't very many graded copies of any on the census . Figured they are good spec too Thanks
  21. Hey everyone , I have a cbcs 9.0 hulk 181 and want to maybe trade it plus some cash for a lower grade ASM 1 . Need community's thoughts on growth potential of each and if I should do it. Thanks !
  22. I may try looking into it just bc there is still so much room to grow for af 15. I am super pissed I didn't follow through and trading across a year ago when 1.0s of af 15 were a lot more comparable to a 181 9.0 WP. Thanks for chiming in !
  23. Hey everyone , I have a Hulk 181 9.0 white pages but i am interested in trying to trade it for a low grade copy of AF 15 plus maybe some cash. I wanted to know the community's thoughts on this for the long-term . also, what's the best way to go about doing this? Thanks !
  24. I think what they are doing is great. It's a great balance of giving collectors great books, creating buzz, getting people into their LCS, and understanding their place and doing their own thing by not trying to compete with the big two. They see a niche and as a small company not going through Diamond they are trying to get their product out to the best shops that support what they are about. Their clearly understand the social psychology of hype and scarcity and combined it with clever marketing and amazing talent. Perhaps the best part is that they understand that if their stories aren't up to snuff no one will care. ENIAC 1 was absolutely amazing imo and made me even more excited for what's to come. I think it's a great way to jump into the industry. Not doing trades (yet) or digital (yet) and getting people excited to go to a shop may only attract passionate readers that are really into their books allowing them to focus on other things, which is how they would prefer it . And don't pay over cover price for the "not first printings" because they will be continuously printed After Fear Case, BRZRKR and now Eniac, I can't wait to read more of Kindt's stuff!
  25. And conversely, I have a beautiful copy of 181 that i was told by an expert in the industry was at least a 9.0. Sent it to CGC and it came back and 8.0 WP I was pissed so I sent it to CBCS and it came back a 9.0 WP. That's a pretty big swing and I feel like CGC is more inconsistent in its grading, just saying. I've seen some wack copies that are clearly worse than my copy but have higher grades.
