  1. Awesome books, Shep! I think you definitely made a great buy! thumbsup2.gif

I like the 302 especially due to the logo change. And if I had a dollar for every Sgt. Rock book that had him on the cover holding a bunch of dogtags, I think it might match the stack of dollars I had for every "dog/child in danger cover". 27_laughing.gif

  2. You can call all you want. I'm not putting the man on a pedestal. Everyone on here is dying to have guys like this on the boards but many of these people don't have the couth to properly welcome somone. The guy writes a large 1st post in response to what has now become a public debate, and you see posts like this on the first pages to welcome the guy:

    ughhh try some paragraph breaks

Not often you get to see BSDs airing their dirty laundry.

I stopped here, can anyone paraphrase

Now I like most of the people on these boards, and interact with them often but i got irritated reading this thread. I don't want to pizz anyone off, but I'm entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. I think that when a knowledgable member arrives on these boards, he / she is sometimes treated with less respect than most shills. Don Rosa's brief appearance here comes to mind.

    Fair enough. thumbsup2.gif

I think there's a lot of worthwhile posters on this board, and because it's a community, everyone will bring their own personalities to the board, for good and for bad.

  3. This place is a joke. And it is that way because of the way some things are treated. We have several respectful posts (whether factual or not is up to the reader) by prominant members of the collecting community (one of which probably has several of the most desirable comics on the planet) and the thread is grenaded by a bunch of *spoon* who are looking to get a snicker from a few readers. We drool over these guys' books, wish we could see them and know more about them, and then humiliate them when they come on over. Like hell someone of any REAL importance would want to voice their opinion here. I just got through about half the pages in this thread and got disgusted. I do my fair of joking on here, but I think we way overstepped the line. Take this as you will. I don't give a *spoon*. It just deepens my resolve to stay away from this place.

I have to call BS on this.

Dave Anderson came over to respond to some posts made by Steve Carey, and in doing so, escalated what should've been a private discussion. Not to be a part of the community. Not to answer questions about the Action #1, nor to post a pic. Both Dave and Steve may have some fantastic books, but this alone doesn't put them on a pedestal, especially since their primary contribution so far has been an argumentative thread about each other's grading, pricing, and personality. The majority of regular posters welcomed Dave despite his initial post and its intent, and have been respectful. Now, your definition of respectful might be different than mine. Mine doesn't include people prostrating themselves because they are the owners of several books that we might wish we had. All Steve and Dave have done is shown that they are tempermental dealers in this industry.

  4. I think it would be great to have folks like Dave join the boards and participate in some of the threads, but what both threads have amounted to is a large game of He Said, She Said between a couple of folks who have books that I will likely never afford nor see in all my time collecting. We went from commentary about the Action #1 and its condition to Steve's All American #16 and whether that subscription crease is color breaking or not. Frankly, all of these arguments are moot. Unless someone is willing to post scans of either book, nothing is settled, and the argument is just not worth the bandwidth.

  5. Thanks man!

They're nice for sure. I've already got enough nice pages cover the walls of my comic room, so having these sit in the flat file doesn't make a ton of sense.

So far, no bites... I'm surprised. Thought the Kirby page would have gone in a second, as it is truly killer.

Could very well be due to the holiday season. I know that I've passed by a lot of stuff this past month that I would love to jump at, and that Heath page is one of them. Unfortunately, I got to wait til January for further purchases. frown.gif

  6. Just got in about 10 books from ebay seller genepliner, and I can definitly say he generally overgardes by .2 to .4 and even a half a grade or a full grade in scarcer cases. I purchased HOM 218 (all his grades) nm, 219 nm, 204 nm, 205 nm-this one may even be a only a 8.0, 211 nm, 212 nm, 215 nm, 217 nm, and 175 in fine--that was a fine minus. Without getting into each book, because they are not in front of me as I wrtie this, most books were a 9.0, maybe one was a 9.2, and one was a 8.5. I can say on the positive side, thay all have nice owtwp pages, a few even white, and he ships quickly and packs securely. But no backing boards.

I know I'm dredging up the past, but since I just got some books from genepliner, I searched around and saw this. He definitely overgrades. The redeeming thing is that his books end up going cheap...cheap enough that they were still worth what I got. I just picked up some Secrets of Sinister House that while they look nice once I've got them out of the yellowing bags and into mylars, you can tell they'd be in a lot nicer condition if they weren't handled so much. Near Mint for him ended up being FN/VF.
