  1. Good point. I've only recently started collecting moderns. Don't press them because you take the risk of small creases appearing. I only buy CGC cased 9.8's in modern age, or buy raw to save money and keep until a later date to see what the market is doing. You can save a shed load of money buying older comics in 9.0 to 9.4's. They still look great and if you buy right they will go up in value in time. My philosophy on older silver age/bronze age is to buy raw, then get them pressed and graded later. There is a lot of over priced stuff on ebay so be patient and beware.
  2. I've just had the same for some silver age comics I sent for grading in early October 2019. It took a week, or so, for the grading notes to appear on my CGC account data. They don't include grading notes in the returned shipping. My problem was a reported detached staple on a valuable key issue, which was definitely not the case when I sent it in. Presumably this happened during Value Pressing? Take note.
  3. As a new collector of new modern age comics, I have noticed that the trend is to release signature artist variant covers with limited issue to say 600 or 1000 worldwide. I would be grateful for any constructive comments, from more experienced collectors, on whether its worth investing in such comics. Thanks
  4. Don't intend to upset anyone, so I'll close this out by first agreeing that the origin of the newtons ring issue is the responsibility of CGC. Selling comics that have it, is not. My point is that sellers are obliged to fully describe the item they are selling, whether it be a scuffed or scratched holder or newtons rings. The buyer can then decide whether to buy, or not.
  5. Well its great news that there is a new holder to combat newton rings. My two recent 'expensive' purchases will be sent to CGC for new holders. It's clear that unscrupulous sellers are out there using ebay.com to off-load their 'newton ring' stock on the unsuspecting public. They fail to declare it in their Item descriptions and make sure they don't show it on their photos. Totally unethical and disgraceful behaviour. I've now lost confidence in ebay purchases having only just started.
  6. I've been Isaac'd. Thanks, is there anything that can sort this out? The sellers ebay photos were clean and did not show this surface contact. Is it likely to have occured during shipping ?
  7. I am a new member of CGC and have recently submitted some of my silver age comics for grading. This has ignited my interest in obtaining some of those amazing newer age graded comics. I have been buying 9.8 Graded comics, but finding defects in what I receive after paying good money. Just received two with dark patches where the cover is on contact with the case. It looks like a wet area. On the most expensive one this dark area also has rainbow interference patterns on it. I am depressed that a 9.8 looks so bad in the case. Can anyone advise me on what options I have and what is causing the visual defects. See pics attached

  9. As i live in Europe, I tend to buy comics on ebay. They tend to always be American sellers as they have the best selection. However, I always have the added costs of postage and import duty, which tends to add around $50 to $60 to the cost of any purchase...ouch !! This pretty much kills most comic deals I may enter. So, I was wondering if going to comic shops when I next visit the USA (2020) would be the answer. For sure, I eliminate the high delivery cost, but are US comic shop prices competitive with ebay prices, or would it not be worth the trouble ?
