  1. Florida artist Pak Kwan was selling old sketches to raise money for his self-published comic book. He has some interesting takes on familiar characters.
  2. I can just fold the art to fit it in a smaller bag, right?
  3. Thanks to both of you! Is that the same person as Aldrin Aw?
  4. OK, gang! I got another incomplete jam piece and am trying to identify some of the signatures. One of these days I'm going to remember to bring these incomplete pieces to a convention instead of leaving them home. ??: Beast Whilce Portacio: Bishop Tom Raney: Phoenix ??: Nightcrawler Joseph Rubinstein: Wolverine ??: Kitty Pryde ??: Storm Jim Towe: Illyana ??: Another Illyana, or somebody else? ??: Gambit throwing card ? Griffin: Rogue
  5. Two more recent acquisitions in this department, by Branch and Tedesco
  6. Anyhoo... I was winning the bidding at one point and was torn as to whether it made a better story in my collection (I'd love to have the "Patience is a Virue" piece for the same reason) or as a piece of performance art enshrined on YouTube. I was leaning toward the former. Maybe I'll get another chance at it at some point now! Maybe it can become this legendary thing, like when Heritage Auctions sold one of John Byrne's blank pages from the "Snowblind" issue of Alpha Flight.
  7. Hey, I haven't updated here in a while. Here's a trio under $500 for the set. Alex Ogle did this sketch for me yesterday at Con Nooga 2022: Zach Howard inked a blue-line Art Adams piece on his podcast: And finally, Thor from Turkish painter Humam Kutub.
  8. I was not prepared for the "Strongbox" (tm) in which Heritage Auctions ships the pricier pieces.
  9. That's pretty funny. I bet those extra people were added to hide whatever other artist's banner might otherwise have been prominently displayed across the aisle. It's a pretty slapdash effort in retrospect, but it survives a quick glance.
  10. Also consider the shill issue. These scammers ought to be more careful if their sales are public knowledge. Or, ya know, just don't scam. https://futurism.com/the-byte/evidence-nft-sales-fake
  11. Bummer on all counts. It's a nice piece. I think I might have even placed a bid on it sometime.
  12. Hopefully not too off topic... I've heard of others having bad experiences with Michael Golden. FWIW, he did this Bug commission for me overnight at a convention last fall. So hopefully things are better for others too recently.
  13. Is it detrimental to the art if I use it to back the art long-term?
  14. How archival are the bags in which Heritage ships art to us? I normally put my art in Itoyas, but for pricier pieces, I was thinking it might be good to keep them in a sealed bag to minimize the risk of damage when moving between Itoyas occasionally. Maybe leaving the backing board in place as well?
  15. Looking for pages Too many porn swipes and fakes eBay needs filters
  16. Early eighties stuff Already down the black hole Meet modern artists Shelving Itoyas Who has a bookshelf that tall? Put them in sideways
  17. Someone drew my attention to this post again today; the new tally is below. I forgot about this a few weeks ago when it was the second anniversary of my participation in this forum. 2021 turned out to be another good art year for me, getting some long-desired artists and learning about some new ones too. Thanks for everyone here! You all teach me so much.
  18. That was a fun video. I didn't expect James Halperin to show up in the flesh. I also didn't realize he had a CAF account. Nice stuff there, of course! And nice to see that he's a true fan, not just an investor.
  19. I've done this accidentally. I was going to bid $100 but then decided to bid $200. I accidentally submitted $100,200! Thankfully the final result was something like $250, not $100,100.
  20. Anybody else getting error messages on Heritage today?
  21. Klarion was a cool series. I enjoyed Seven Soldiers in all its heavy meta.
  22. I got a clutch of secondhand commissions barely over $500 for the set. Boba Fett: Ken Lashley Rogue: Jim Towe Apocalypse: Ed Cherniga Aphrodite IX: Eric Basaldua Age of Apocalypse: Dann Phillips Venom Eats Illyana: Lynne Yoshii
  23. Quite so. It's very complicated and difficult to prognosticate. Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel Prize by showing how computer models of the stock market failed to mimic actual human behavior, because the computers were logical, and people are not.
  24. This seems like a general property of collectibles. They are immensely valuable to a small circle of people, all of whom want some rare thing. And the rest of the world just gives blank stares about why you spent good money on a guitar pick or postcard or statuette or oil painting of a tree or old baseball or used swimsuit or...
