  1. I have extra 750FBs, trying to see if i can avoid buying more then i need.

To me the 750FB seems to be appropriately sized, its just the thickness of the comic that's making it a very tight fit once in the 775M2.

Just seeing if i can get away with only buying a small pack of 800M2? or 825M2?

  2. I'm trying to protect a few comics for storage and i'm not sure how to best handle these 80pg Giants.

I have 750FBs and 775M2s, but when i put one of these giants in there its way to snug for me.

I only have a couple, wondering if i can get away with using my current 750FBs and picking up some 800M2s?

anyone have any tips for the Giants.

    Thanks,

    When you say "Plastic"...

    Just a little clarification...

Poly Bags are fine for short term storage and are not expensive, however, they break down over time and produce acids that will/may damage the books over time, it is recommended to replace Poly Bags every 5 years.

Mylar is an Inert Archival Safe material that does not break down and contains no acids, Mylar is more expensive than Poly but will last a lifetime.

With both you should be using an Acid Free or Buffered Backing Board.

Thanks for the link, that's probably the best pricing I've seen for Mylar2.

My plan was to take the advice from this post:

But since i have no gold, only silver, i was going to use 750FB / 775M2

That is excellent news for you, very happy about that. And you know what, I do recomend you send this in for pressing since there is no colour break. For a book like this, it's worth the press in case of a grade bump. By that I mean, the extra worth of a grade bump outweighs the price of a press so much that it's worth the gamble, at least to me.

Thanks for the tip, i think i'll do exactly that

I would feel confidant putting this at 6.0 as is, but it would certainly benefit from a cleaning (especially the back) which could put it to 6.5 (or more?)

Is there an advantage to getting the book cleaned now? or should i wait until right before i get the book graded?

Those are rough to press away but not impossible.

But I did notice something else worse than this, the book has a lengthwide subscritpion crease. it is most apparent on robin's costume. Not sure if that lighter coloured line is a colour break or not. If it is, that would bring the book down to anything between a 4.0-6.0 depending on what CGC thinks (in overstreet guide, lenthwise subscription ceases are allowed only in the 4.0 range).

That crease is a product of my sub-par scanner, looking at the book under light i don't see any creases inside or out on the cover.

Good eye Will, already looking at the comics different when i pull them out.

Awesome book, but can you please tell me what is going on with that gash starting at aqualad's head and heading towards the edge of the book? Is it a fold, a tear or a scratch?

Good eye, i didn't even notice that. Looks to be a fold of some kind, if you open the book you can see the crease on the inside of the cover as well.

I wonder if that's something that could be pressed away?

  7. Just wanted to get a rough idea on the grading these two comics would receive.

When i am back home ill re-scan with a colored background. As for visible defects; there is some kind of dried adhesive at the tops of both the front and the back, its can be clearly seen in the pictures.

  8. I have a box of Silver age that i want to protect for long term storage.

I've been reading that mylites 2 or 4 are the way to go, but there isn't much talk about the board?

I've read that acid free boards still need switching out after 5-7 years? So the 20+ year advantage of mylites is out the window, no?

    What if:

Put just the comic in a mylites bag, then put the bag and board into a slightly larger PP bag?

Trying to find the best storage solution that doesn't require switching out every 5-10 years.

    Thanks,

  9. I inherited a box of Silver age comics and am having trouble figure out best step forward.

I know step one is to get them out of the box and into some selves, most of them are in fantastic condition but have slight curls along the spine as a result of being stacked in a box.

    1. Will pressing solve the spine curl issue?
    2. Should I get the more valuable ones graded?
    3. If the grading comes back not perfect, do people then opt for restoration?
    4. When is restoration a good idea?
    5. Does restoration usually increase the grading?

I'm not interested in selling these right now, but want to do what i can now to maximize their value whenever the times comes.

    Thanks,
