    The countdown is on!

9.8 Blue label is currently at 230k with auction close tomorrow night!  With sales of 240k, 245k and 250k at CC in the last few months, will we see a new high?  I think so...

9.4 Blue label with interior sigs is at 40k with close tomorrow night as well.  Identical book went for 58.5k back in June... Do we think there will be a big close and new high?  I'm thinking just short of that at 55k.

    We'll see

Woof.  I was so wrong haha.  9.8 stayed at 230k and 9.4 went at 42k.  Stock market / turtle market is down I guess.

    Happy Holidays all!

What a let down.  And also a great buy for someone.  There's definitely been a down tick in price lately.  I think the explanations above are all factors.

I do think the $240k and 245k set a high mark.  For those that have one to sell, I think it's worth finding a buyer in that realm rather than going to auction.  88k for 9.6 and 58k for 9.4 are also high marks (both with sigs on inside cover).  And now it looks like the new bottom of the market correction is being found.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the 9.8 going to auction.  It has to be at least 150k I'd think... we'll see.

  4. More 1st print #1s up for sale... Anyone care to guess where these land?  New round of price is right

    1.  9.4 - white pages - on Comic Connect - ends tomorrow night.

    2.  9.6 ow/white pages - on Comic Link - ends in 5 days

    3.  9.0 ow/white pages - on Comic Link - ends in 5 days

    4.  8.0 white pages - on Comic Link - ends in 5 days

    5.  9.2 white pages - SS with sketch by Eastman - on Heritage starting 10/29

    6.  9.4 - white pages - sigs on inside cover - in Comic Connect's November Auction

I'll go with $95,000. I think some of the bidders on the last auction didn't want to bid too much when there was a superior (white pages) 9.6 they could fall back on. But now this may be their last chance for a while.

Yeah, the 9.2 did go lower than I expected.  And great logic as to the whys from the guys above as well.  I'll guess 92k on the Heritage book.  If it had the sigs inside I might have taken the over at 100K due to the new 240k mark set.  Just because of that I do feel like we're due for a new record at 9.6.  We'll see in a few days!

  6. On 9/3/2021 at 2:43 PM, tvindy said:

It's running at the same time as another 9.6 auction on HA and has OW pages. My guess is it won't break $100,000. (That's a pretty safe bet.😂)

Agreed.  Earlier auction end than usual.  The 9.6 blue label on Comic Connect back in April went for 88.  Had white pages and sigs on inside cover.  But after the 240k 9.8 (WOW!), maybe this still goes higher?  Who knows?  I'm going to say 85k here as my guess on the 9.6.

And this 9.2 with white pages and sigs on the inside?  Averaging out the 88k 9.6 and the 58k 9.4 with the same characteristics...I'm guessing 40k for the 9.2 at this point.  We'll see:popcorn:

I totally forgot about this one on the block. I didn’t tag/mark (auctions are so damnn long) and spaced it.

But so did you my friend :)

  8. Same auction there were some other interesting data points:

    TMNT #1 6.5 - $12,700

    TMNT #1 7.5 - $16,100

TMNT #3 NYCC Variant 9.6 WP - $8,400 - Sigs on inside.  This went higher than the 9.6 SS #3 Variant from Kevin Eastman's Collection recently on Comic Link for $5,532.  There's definitely evidence over the last 6 months that sigs on the inside by the creators add a premium.

I think you're right.  And what a beauty that is!  Checks all the boxes, really is as good as it gets.  That is literally my favorite comic, can't beat it.

What do we think the CGC 9.4 #1 on Comic Connect starting in a few days will go for?  It has the same sigs on the interior.  It's been a while since a 9.4 sold as far as I can tell.  I think 50k+ given the 9.6 with sigs at 88.  But who knows.  Maybe closer to 40 if the sigs don't mean as much.

I guess the sigs mattered!  58.5k is by far a record for a 9.4.  And shows that the 88k for the 9.6 WP sigs on inside in April wasn't a fluke.  The next time a 9.8 goes to auction it's going to be quite a show.  Especially if it has sigs on the inside like these.

The interior sigs I think are very cool for TMNT #1 in any print, great for a non SS fan (at least imho) and I’d think well liked for those who are.
I owned a 9.6 with sigs just like that one from CC and my 9.8 has them on first page (att)
Personally I think they are a a total bonus to have - the two true undisputed creators/writers/artists sigs in there. (No contention by them or anyone lol Not quite the case as we see and hear thru the years with Marvel characters or over with Kane=>Bill Finger)

Monetarily…I just thought a little premium kinda like ow/w vs white pages with SA Marvels. But maybe are more valued/coveted or perhaps no correlation whatsoever. There are a decent number of first print #1s with their sigs out there.

Me too. Are sigs inside worth $22k? hm

They must be worth something.  That auction on CC was fun to watch.  Definitely two bidders going back and forth adding 2 minutes to the clock for like 25 minutes as it passed 50k.

This #3 Variant cover CGC 9.6 SS from Kevin Eastman's Collection just went for $5,532.  Seems like a steal considering the 9.8 Variant on CC last month!  Those OG sigs on inside cover must be very desirable!

I don't know how that 9.2 Adventures 1 is going so high. It just broke $1k while there's a 9.4 on Ebay right now for BIN $300....

It's wild!  I think the same guys that were betting back and forth on the #1 were battling on this one too!  More as a contest than anything else??  Haha

It’s a shill bid. Smells bad

It's not.  I know the seller.  It must be two people that really want this book.  I was also wondering why the Heritage SS didn't go higher... That one had Eastman sig and sketch on the cover.  This one has both Eastman and Laird signatures on inside cover.  I don't think that would make much of a difference to most?  Is one more desirable than the other?  I'm new to the hobby, you guys would know better than I.  Only thing I can think of is that the right people weren't on that Heritage auction?

wow! almost double the yellow label from a couple weeks ago... I posit this one will go for around $20k (maybe more)

The #2 on CC is at $2020 which is ok but should jump before the end. I see this one at $4500 or more. Only one copy has sold (at least in GPA) since December. The 9.6's are catching up but my copy on Ebay is collecting dust at the moment. Hopefully this auction will kickstart the #2's again.

The 9.6 at $38277 Should be in the $60k-$70k range when this is over. More would icing on the cake...

Wow, you called it!  It's at $20,500 now!  This is fun to watch!

Seems to me that this book is just ridiculously cool.  Only 500 of them, oversized, sold at a convention in the 1980s... unless the creators somehow held onto extras, the conditions on the surviving copies won't be 9.6+ very often.

Less than 70 of them are on the CGC census above 9.2.  That's fewer than the number of TMNT #1 first prints at 9.6 or higher.

Looks like folks agree with you, it's a TMNT grail!  Up to $10,200 now, 2 days left.  in 10-20 years, it will be fun to see what these go for.  I'm going to keep my eye out for a lower grade copy.

According to that theory in 20 years time the kids that grew up with miles morales will want his books and Tmnt will be new Roy Rogers ? What’s your point ? It’s Tmnt time now ? 40 years in I hope so but 100K for 9.8 or other high grades in the price points they are fetching is pretty nuts . Why haven’t issues 2-4 followed ? Early TMNT and important imo . The generation that grew up Tmnt I’d love to meet people 40 or under paying 60K and up for top tier grades . It’s laughable .

I'm one of those.  Mid 30s.  Have invested in TMNT books, including 1-10.  I'm sure there are many others in 30s and 40s like me.

No that's not my theory its a fact & what's laughable is just because you don't happen to know any 40 year olds who are putting down that kind of money you assume it's not happening. I mean this sincerely let me know if you want to get in touch with a few of them and you can look at there collections, I know a guy who is 44 yrs old and last week dropped 90K on a Jordon collection and another buddy of mine who is in his 40s (a Dentist) dropped 100k on a prototype Bobba Fett Action figure recently. Another fact is TMNT #2-4 ,Ralph, #3 variant (2nd & 3rd prints) and any of the Gobbly books have all had substantial increases over the same time frame as #1 first print better yet  just go take a look at the TMNT Archie #1 these days ( this was a $1 bin book not to long ago). I mean its just crazy for anyone to assume this is not real or its some dealer/auction house manipulation. Drop in on Heritage recent sales & take a look at Nintendo sales, Magic the gathering or the big dog Pokemon. I guess that's all 60 year olds who just happen to be part of a Pikachu investment firm

Haha.  Can we talk about how funny this last line is?  There's definitely a 60+ Pikachu investment firm out there.  bahah.  Well said Not Glenda :roflmao:

This is very true. The variant of #3 has always been on my radar and I couldn't find one pre-internet. For the TMNT fan it is the must have #3 as there are only 500 of them. Overstreet's, back in the day, had it listed as the NYCC variant and I always wanted to get my hands on one. I don't think the general population of comic collectors care so much even though this is the 'Variant Age'.

Well said.  That makes sense to me.  I'm new to this, but definitely fall in the fan category more than collector.  Thanks to you both for the insight!

I actually bought it from the seller for 2850. He was initially asking 8500 for it. But he needed the money and dropped the price. Then in 2019 prior to the cgc awards the same individual wanted to purchase it from me for 25k, it would have elevated them into first place. But I have a good relationship with Icculus so I couldn’t let him lose his top spot.

I just recently sold it for 8500 on eBay. I had a feeling it would go up on HA. Bad timing to move the book and the seller lost 1k. But that’s the game some play.

What a cool story!  That's some market volatility.  With the small print run of the NYCC variant (500), and given the upward trend of #1 (~3000), I would think the NYCC variant would keep going up as well.

Totally! Nothing ludicrous, just 💪 prices for 🐢 books, so I’m happy.

    - I was a little surprised the #3 Variant didn’t go for more around $10K. That’s a unique book

    - That #1 9.2 going for $32,400 really is something to see 🤘

Agreed, I was thinking the same.  I'm pretty sure this exact book went for 10k on eBay a while back.  There's only one yellow label variant 9.8 on the census.  Must of not had the right people's attention?  Who knows.

Those signed Gobbledygooks are amazing!  Wow!
